904.0. "Death in the family" by DCC::JAERVINEN (Don't make your personal name too long) Mon Nov 16 1987 11:10

My Amiga decided to die yesterday (3 months after the warranty
    expired).

The symptoms: The screen went blank, and nothing more happened.
Ctl-A-A didn't help either, so I switched it off and on; it did
ask for Kickstar, and seemed like reading the disk (about right
amount of stuff too). But after having read it, the disk light goes
away for just a couple of seconds, and the on again; no request
for workbench appears and the machine seems more or less dead.

In this state, it does react to ctl-A-A somehow (the power led
    flickers) but nothing more happens.

I've already taken it to the gentle care of CBM Germany; you might
regard this note as a competiton who comes closest to the real problem.

(They actually check the machine for just DM 25,- (~$15) and say
what's wrong with it and how much they want for repairing; so I
still have a chance to do the repair myself if I want to.

Offhand, I'd bet that your internal floppy has died. The symptoms
you described match others in this notes file, and the personal
    experience of a friend.

I bet you can get away with replacing one or both of the 8520 chips.
