778.0. "Please" by DICKNS::MACDONALD (WA1OMM Listening 224.28) Tue Oct 06 1987 13:03

    Please do not access PAULY"AMIGA":: between the hours of 7:00 am
    and 6:00 pm EST. There have been too many disk accesses which is
    creating some problems here for people in my group attempting to
    access the laser printer over the network. It can be directly
    attributed to the high volume of file transfers on PAULY"AMIGA"::.

    My LOG shows people accessing the directory who have never ever
    written or replied to the notesfile before. Can you believe it?
    Come on out of the Notes closet!

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Paul

Guilty.

It took me at least 4 shots at copying files yesterday, I kept getting
%xxx-f-bugdaps or some such nonsense while copying files from PAULY.
I'm sure this didn't help your system. Is it possible that you have
faulty software/hardware contributing to the problem?

Anyway, thanks for posting stuff on PAULY!

    Checkpoint problem. I have a laser printer attached to the machine
    that reads files copied to a directory on the same disk as the amiga
    files. The read and write accesses sometimes conflict when the network
    lines into the pro gets busy.

Woops... I'm guilty also. Maybe it would be a good idea, along with the
posting of a new upload, to indicate the hours the system is "open".

Thanks,

John

Are you saying that PAULY is a PRO??? Now I understand the problem. Won't they
let you have a real computer?

    I also copied all of it using spool (ftsv) don't know for sure when
    those little suckers actually ran, but...

    I'm moving all of my stuff to a MVII with a bunch of space...so
    look in
    		MVCAD3::user0:[amiga...]

    I'll be happy to provide this as a more permanent home for things
    if people want to use it to "stash" things...(or at least until
    we start to fill an rd54! ;-)

    So with the time delay(6 or 5 hours) ,for Europe , time access
    restriction should be from 12:00am or 1:00 pm to 11:00 am ?
    Am I correct...?
    Does FTSV also create this overload ??
