713.0. "2 meg boards with 0K RAM chips" by WHAT::WISNER (Paul Wisner) Thu Sep 17 1987 17:55

    I am considering buying a 2-MEG board without RAM chips on it.

    Questions:

    		How much does 2 MEG worth of RAM chips cost?

    		I have no experience doing this. I'm expecting that
    		I just push the RAM chips into sockets on the board.
    		Is that all there is to it? What can go wrong?

		Are there any other problems involved in this?

    Check Computer Shopper for the latest in RAM prices.

    When I populated my Starboard, I got 150 nSec 256Kbit DRAMS for
    $2.19 each.  I'd expect to pay =< $2.50 each.

    Installing the chips is a snap. Usually, the legs have a little
    outwards bias in them, so I just gently push each row of legs until
    they yield inwards a tad. Then, just ease the little suckers into
    the socket.

    You might want to discharge any charge from your body occasionally.
    I ran a wire to the ground screw on a nearby outlet and just brushed
    it from time to time while I did the installation. Once you get
    good at it, you can insert a chip in about 5 seconds.
