671.0. "Apple captures Bytes' BIX" by CSSE::WARD () Tue Aug 25 1987 17:18

The September issue of Byte has dropped Amiga from the Best of Bix.
Another page has something about getting on. It seems coincidental
that Bix and Usenet (Note #669) have turned off. On the upside,
Amiga World is going monthly before year-end.

By-the-way, Manx supposedly is shipping a new "68020" C compiler.
    Any Info folks?

I wouldn't get too excited about Byte not having the Amiga 'best
of' for one month; the Amiga conference has been reported to have
among the most traffic on BIX. (No, I don't know who said that)

Likewise, USENET recently posted that the comp.sys.amiga had the
second largest message traffic of all conferences. The winner?
    'Woman talk'

USENET has been as active as ever on comp.sys.amiga. For transcripts,
you can download weekly messages from PLINK. I believe the receiving
software has been broken on the DEC end for some time, since I haven't
    been getting comp.sys.atari either.

If anything, the future of the Amiga seems brighter than ever, to
me. Developers are overjoyed at the thoughts of a million A500s.
Initial sales figures for the A500 are 50,000-70,000 for the first
few months. Comdex was a resounding success. Commodore has an
old warrior back in charge. I've seen the Amiga commercials for
the fall, and they look good. There's more software arriving than
I can even keep track of. (I think someone said over 900 titles,
    so far).

For a while, I considered jumping ship to a MAC ][. After using
one for a few hours, I guess I wouldn't trade my current setup for
one. As nice as the display is, I still think the Amiga is much
more seductive. And much more fun.
