667.0. "Earl Weaver Baseball" by UFP::WICKERT (Ray Wickert - MAA Worksystems Consultant) Mon Aug 24 1987 02:15

Any players of "Earl Weaver Baseball" out there?

I have a couple of questions about it... Overall it's pretty slick
but I can't seem to control watch type of pitch is being thrown.

I'm an Earl Weaver addict, although I confess to just letting Earl
manage both sides and observing the stats that are generated. I
think it's a great game, although Earl seems to be a bit eager to
make lineup changes late in the game.

I have 1986 NL and AL stats and all major league stadiums, if anyone's
    interested.

    re: .0

I had a problem with the pitching for a while too. With the mouse,
the procedure is . . . hold down the left button and move the mouse
in the direction you want the pitch to go, then release the button.
ie: up and to the right pitches outside, etc.

pretty good game although I've had it guru on me a couple of times.

Does anybody play Earl Weaver with a Starboard 2 attached to their
Amigas. Every time I try to play it with the extra memory attached,
I get a visit from the Guru.

The memory checks out when I run the diagnostics on it.

    Anybody??
667.5Have you tried fixhunk?MPGS::BAEDERThu Oct 01 1987 21:5115
don't know about this game in particualr, but many early things
didn't treat fast vs. chip ram correctly...try some of the PD tools
fixhunk - to make the prog use all chip ram
hidemem - to "use" all the fast mem, (again forces game to use
    			chip mem.

these are on fish disks, nad may be on e-net somewhere...if not,
    I can down load.

Again, I assume other things besides the memory test work ok with
    the memory.

667.6still befuddledSZOFNA::CBODINEC.B.Thu Oct 01 1987 22:1622
No I haven't tried fix hunk. I called EA and they said that they
were not aware of any problem with Earl Weaver, which leads me to
believe that the problem is with my setup some how. I'm sure that
there are people that are using Earl Weaver with a similar
    configuration.

I would be willing to try fixhunk except that I can't get a clean
copy of this game until brain file 9 comes out for Marauder. But
I would still like to have it if you wouldn't mind uploading it.

Most other programs work with the additional RAM. The only other
problem that I am having is with VideoScape 3d (guru visit).

Is there something else that might be wrong with my Amiga that could
cause this kind of behavior? Are there any diagnostics that can be
    run on the Amiga itself?

BTW. Earl Weaver Baseball is a relatively new game.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I've tried Earl Weaver on a 1 meg A500 and it ran fine. May I suggest
that you return the disk to the dealer for a replacement? I have
on occasion received brand new disks that were corrupt.

I still think mass market items are shipped on cheap, single sided
    media.

    fixhunk.arc loaded...see mpgs::user3:[baeder.wercek.arc]

(note: I store arc files on the vax in ARC format...use cvtarc to
    D/L using kermit.)

667.9Need help pitching and running...LEDS::SKRALYSam Skraly, DTN 291-7244Mon Dec 26 1988 19:1021
I hope some of you still remember how to play this game--I'm new to it, and
I'm still confused about pitching and running. The manual seems to indicate
that pitching is a two-step process:

"1) Drag and click the left mouse button for speed and type.
      2) Drag and click the left mouse button for location."

The previous replies indicate that pitching is a one-step process: Click the
left mouse button, drag for speed and location, and release button. This
seems to work, but it seems to limit me to straight pitches and curves. How do
you throw screwballs, forkballs, and knuckleballs (all of which are advertised
on the box as possible pitches)? What is the meaning of the two-step
procedure in the manual?

Running: Am I only controlling the lead runner, or what? My procedure is as
follows: Hit a ball, hold right mouse button until I want to stop, release
right button. Do I only roll up if I want to take an extra base? How do I
control multiple runners? Roll down to retreat seems to work OK.

Thanks,
Sam

I'm new to this also but I did manage to figure out the two step
process! You must do the second drag and click as he winds up!
Drag down and its a low ball, up and its high, left and right is
outside or inside and so on!

Has anyone successfully backed up Earl Weaver Baseball? I have never
been able to get a good copy of my original using any of the PD
copiers, and thought sure NIB would be able to get it. Well, I can't
make it work, at least with any of the parameters I tried. I've had
this game since about a week after its release and have never backed it
up, although I play it on at least a weekly basis and often a daily
basis. I"d really like to get a backup...

On another note, they have released versi 1.5 of EWB for the IBM.
Anyone know of the new features this version includes, and if there's
any chance there will be an updated Amiga version?

Finally, the Commissioner's Disk is supposedly almost ready for
shipment for the Amiga. Supposedly this makes it much easier to
schedule a season and form your own teams/leagues.

Marauder II backed up mine, no problem. It still asks for the "key"
disk, but I just click OK and everything runs fine.
