665.0. "Digitized Sonix Scores" by LEDS::ACCIARDI () Fri Aug 21 1987 13:10

    Anyone who has Sonix 2.0 may be interested in some new .SMUS scores
    that have been placed in the public domain. These new scores feature
    digitized sounds recorded with Aegis' new Audio Master. Since this
    product is not (to my knowledge) released yet, it's pretty safe
    to assume that Aegis has planted these scores as an enticement.
    The author of the scores has been kept anonymous.

    These new songs are pretty terrific; in fact, when played back through
    an amplifier and decent sound system, it's hard to tell whether
    or not a real band is playing.

    * Thriller (M. Jackson) - features wolf howlings and a great digitized
       insane laugh. I had some fun with my wife the other night; I loaded
       the digitized laugh(s) into all four channels at different frequencies
       and durations... when I played it back at full volume, she thought an
       army of lunatics had strolled into the house.

    * Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes) - has a great opening guitar sequence
       and Yes' unique percussion sound.

    * YTV - original score? - This one is really good, and defies
       description. Features real human vocals. A very nice tune.

    If there's any interest, I'll upload them. Be prepared for some
    serious download time, since the digitized instruments tend to get
    pretty big, and for some reason, ARC doesn't achieve very much
    compression.

    I'll try to get to it tonight or tomorrow. Check in on

    	JAKE::USER2:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]  from time to time.

    THRILLER.ARC is now in my directory. Didn't have time to do the
    others. I threw away the original .ARC, so I'll have to re-arc
    everything. I hope to finish tonight.

665.5DMCS? Instant Music?ISTG::WISNERPaul WisnerTue Aug 25 1987 17:206
    I thought Deluxe Music Construction Set could handle SMUS. Is that
    true?

    Are the digitized instruments in the IFF instrument format? If
    so, they could also be used the DMCS and Instant Music.

    I've been able to save DMCS file in SMUS format and have SONIX play
    them, but I don't remember trying the reverse; it seems like it
    should work.

    I distinctly remember not being able to get a SONIX instrument to
    work under DMCS. But I didn't try very hard, nor consult the manual.

    Is the original intact or does it also fail the CRC check?

    Yes, I remember the original bitching about failing CRC, but it
    loads and runs just fine.
