583.0. "LN03 printer driver?" by ANGORA::SMCAFEE (Steve McAfee) Wed Jul 01 1987 14:39

    Has anyone ever tried to write a printer driver for an LN03? What
    I would like to be able to do is capture an LN03 output to a file,
    upload it to the vax and print it. Any hope of this happening?
    I've got Lattice 3.10 and would be willing to work on an LN03 driver,
    but I'll have to dig up the LN03 documentation.

    regards,

    I found some LN03 documentation and was surprised to see that it
    uses Sixel graphics like the LA50/LA100. It shouldn't be hard to modify
    the LA50 driver to produce LN03 data. However, I have never been
    really happy with the appearance of the LA50/LA100 graphics from
    the driver which I have (sorry I forgot who posted it).

583.2hack way of printing a screen dumpSYZYGY::FOWLERWed Jul 01 1987 15:5717
There was a program called CLAZ by Steve Ludtke posted to COMP.SOURCES.AMIGA a
while back that does IFF to postscript conversions. I don't have a printer on
my Amiga, or ready access to a postscript printer at work, but I did try an
experiment.  I uploaded an IFF file from a FISH disk (a 5 bit-plane 320x200
picture of Garfield). I hacked over CLAZ to compile on the VAX and to make
changes that account for the bytes being swapped in the IFF file as it resides
on a VMS disk. I ran my uploaded picture of Garfield thru vmsClaz. I then ran
the resulting file thru another program that converted the stream-lf file to a
fixed length record format. This was necessary because the print symbiont
objected to the record length of the stream-lf file produced by vmsCLAZ. I
printed the resulting file on the version of the LN03 that supports postscript.
Much to my surprise, out came a picture of Garfield. This is obviously not
a production oriented way of getting printouts. I only tried it once, but it
did work.
