581.0. "Workbench and kickstart v1.3 ???" by LAUSAN::BLANC (Phil Lausanne-CH 30-JUN-1987 16:57) Tue Jun 30 1987 15:06

    Hi,
As a lot of you are talking of workbench v1.3, I have a few questions
    on it:
1.- Does it mean also mean a new kickstart v1.3 will be implemented?
2.- If yes, how will it be done on the A500 and A2000 (ROM)
3.- Will it be this time compatible with the v1.2 or not ?

    Thanks	Phil

Well, from what I've heard, there will be a new Kickstart too.
That means that there will have to be a new rom for the 500 and
2000. Nothing has been said about how CBM will take care of that.

I would think that it will be fully compatible with 1.2 programs.
Most of the fixes are in the hard disc and file handlers, to speed
    things up.

The latest issue of Amazing Computing is my source for this info.

From what I've heard, there are hooks built into the current
Kickstart that allow it to tie into RAM-based software patches,
which are dragged in with everything else from the WB disk.
This was done to prevent having to change the KS ROM's all the
	time.

I wish I could be more specific, but I don't have all the
	details available.

581.3I lied... You DO Need New ROM'sTEACH::ARTArt Baker, DC Training Center (EKO)Thu Jul 02 1987 15:2832
Well folks, it looks like my unimpeachable sources were wrong
about not needing a ROM change for A500/A2000 systems when
KS gets updated.... Here's the scoop from someone who should
know; I pulled it from USENET. Sorry for the confusion.

your sources are correct, the hooks are in the 1.2 KS.

Sounds like 1.3 has many file system changes, much cleaner to just
do a new ROM instead of using the hooks.
