553.0. "News from The Software Shop" by KIRK::KYZIVAT (Paul Kyzivat) Wed Jun 17 1987 16:59

I was in The Software Shop last weekend. They had quite a pile of
hardware sitting around. There were five Sidecars (three already sold)
a bunch of Genlocks, Easels, etc. So if you want it, they have it.

Don't bother going for software demos. They basically don't have any,
and won't open software to demo it.

He thought the 2000 would show up in July. The upgrade deal is (as
reported elsewhere) your old A1000 plus $1000, and will only be in
effect for 45 days. He claimed that if you had been messing around
inside your Amiga it wouldn't be acceptable in trade. (I heard this
while listening to him talk a phone customer out of the Insider. In
addition to the upgrade problem, he claimed to have sold two and had
them returned, so he doesn't carry them anymore.) I probed a little
and got the clear impression that there is no chance of a better deal
    on the upgrade.

[I am trying to figure out the economics of the upgrade. The $1k buys
an extra 512k (worth ~$200), a more complete keyboard, a clock, and the
possibility that other upgrades will be cheaper. Is it possible to
save another $800 on a hard disk and additional memory?]

I also asked about the Amiga long persistence monitor. He didn't
expect it until fall, and didn't think there would be any provision for
    upgrade.

I stopped by the Software Shop on 6/27, and was surprised to see
the Sidecars in stock. He still had one left. Moe DID receive
10 A00s, but sold them instantly. I guess it's really going to
    be a hot item.

He still had several Genlocks left... after selling about 24 of
    them.

He is now selling Supra hard drives alongside the C Ltd. Moe
personally prefers the Supra due to it's small size and built in
clock. I used it extensively, and boy, it's a whole new game with
a hard drive. If I hadn't crunched my car a few weeks ago to the
tune of $500, I would have definately brought the Supra home with
me. Moe also has a Sony 1201 monitor hooked up, and I love it even
more than my KV1311. Its the old Mac and ST trick, display a smaller
area, and the screen automatically looks much sharper.

Oh yes, the Software Shop will be moving to a larger facility on
June 1 st. The new address will be 87 Pleasant St, which is the
same road that Elmwood st connects to. Just head back towards downtown
Worcester, the new place is about 1/2 mile north of town hall.
