496.0. "business graphs" by AUNTB::PRESSLEY () Sun May 10 1987 15:16

Is there any software for doing business graphics. Something similar
    to decgraph but more functional?

Aegis makes a package called Impact. It is rather expensive for
what it does. It automatically creates graphs from data and allows
you to put together a 'slide' show of video displays. However,
it looks like it works on medium-res, so the graphics will have
    jaggies.

I know of another product (yet unamed) that will work similarly,
but will use sound too. You will be able to access sampled sounds
from the keyboard to spruce up your presentations at appropriate
    moments.

After being seriously disappointed by Aegis software twice in a
row, I foolishly took the plunge and bought Impact, as I needed
something that I could do presentation graphics with. It was a
waste of money, and it has all the same wierdnesses that characterize
Aegis software for me (their designers just don't see things the
    way I do, I guess).

For example - I wanted to do some simple all text slides. I stupidly
assumed that Impact would format such slides from a text file, but
no, you directly create the graphics, and their font selection is
abysmal. Not one of the fonts was usable for my purposes. I ended
up doing it (by hand, just as Impact required me to) in Dpaint,
which has better fonts, and whose brush features I can use to do
    limited "editing" and formatting.

Maybe the graphs/pie charts from data features will prove useful
someday, except you have to format the data Impact's way and that
means copying it out of wherever you got it. I remain skeptical.

Rather expensive for what it does, indeed.

ANALYZE 2.0 has LOTUS like business graphics. It has features like
IFF output, pie, bar, stacked, 3-d, lines etc. Pretty nice. I haven't
really figured out how to control the colors of the graphs yet though.
I think the output can be edited by Dpaint II and the colors can
be changed that way. It will allow mutliple window of graphs, but
    you need memory.
