| Paul: The answers are:
1. Yes I got rid of VMSSWEEP, but I just put it back.
2. Yes there is a REAL ARC running on VMS
3. Yes it is ARC.EXE
4. Yes it was protected (not any more).
The reason for this is that Brad (GENRAL::) Morgan just finished
porting this version, and we're not exactly sure of the
legality of distributing it. For now, feel free to use it
but: DO NOT DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF DEC.
5. There is a companion program: CVTARC.EXE that is needed to
work with most arc files. The problem is that ARC requires
a STREAM_LF file and VMS (especially KERMIT) needs a VARIABLE
LENGTH, MAXIMUM 510 byte record file. So.....
$ cvtarc :== $dev:[dir]cvtarc
$ arc :== $dev:[dir]arc
To use ARC on a file, you have to put it in UNIX mode:
$ cvtarc u old.arc new.arc
$ arc v new.arc
$ arc a new.arc f1.c f2.c ...
Now return it to a state that KERMIT can use (in SET
FILE TYPE BINARY):
$ cvtarc v new.arc old.arc
That's it.
If there are questions or problems with ARC.EXE, please contact Brad directly.
