357.0. "PAL Jr., Infoworld" by CSSE::WARD () Thu Feb 26 1987 17:33

		A $1,495 expansion system that includes a 20-megabyte
hard disk has been announced for the Amiga 1000.

The Pal Jr. from Byte By Byte provides 1 megabyte of
fast RAM with no wait states and a battery-backed clock &
calendar, said Scott Peterson, president of the firm. The DMA
controller which occupies one of two expansion slots, will
support a user-installable SCSI option. The Pal Jr., which is
2.75 inches tall, is designed to sit on top of the Amiga, and
its 1 megabyte of RAM leaves a full 8 megabytes of address space
	available for additional expansion.

The hard disk has an average access time of 68
milliseconds and track-to-track access time of 15 milliseconds.
Byte By Byte will also offer a 2-megabyte RAM expansion board
for Pal Jr., which users can upgrade to 8 megabytes. The board
uses low-power single in-line memory module technology, and the
upgrade does not require soldering or the cutting of any
	jumpers.

Pal Jr. will be available in the first quarter of 1987,
with prepaid orders given preference when shipping begins.

Byte By Byte, 9442 Capital of Texas Highway North,
	Suite 150, Austin, TX 78759;(512)343-4357

What happened to that little 6-8" high box we've been seeing on
the back of Amigaworld for the past year and a half?

    maybe it wouldn't pass FCC...

I don't know about INFOWORD, but the last time I talked to the
developers the PAL jr. was being re-designed. The new PAL jr. increased
the RAM size to 2 MB. I would guess the INFOWORLD had old information
    about size and content.

I talked to the makers of the PAL Jr. today and they told me the
info in .0 is correct. They DID re-design it and it does sit on
top now, but it does only come with 1MB. They'll sell you a 2MB
(expandable to 8MB) board to go in the free expansion slot for
$955 (I think that's the price, don't have the info in front of
me).

The person I spoke to told me the first batch is scheduled to
start shipping in 10 days, but is completely sold out. The next
batch should ship April 20-25 and is 80% sold out.
