184.0. "BLINK" by ANT::SMCAFEE (Steve McAfee) Fri Nov 21 1986 16:07

    Could someone out there upload a copy of the latest version of BLINK
    and make it available (at least temporarily). An ARC'd file would be
    nice, but a simple upload using Dave Wecker's "IMAGE" mode in VT100
    would suffice.

    I would really appreciate this.

    Thanks,

    Steve McAfee

    If someone could post a binary copy of BLINK somewhere on the net,
    it sure would be appreciated by quite a few of us. I have Lattice,
    and as you know that usually leaves a lot to be desired... Actually
    it is the primary reason that I have not done a lot of software
    development -- lack of time to wait around for it to run!

    Thanks for your response and help !

    Ooops !

    I just noticed that I was off of my standard account. The previous
    reply was from 'John B. Fisher @NCO  --  NCCSB::JFISHER'.

    Thanks once again !
184.4Blink is AvailableTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersMon Dec 01 1986 06:0416
Blink version 6.7 - 15 October 1986 may be copied from:

	TLE""::UPORT$:[RMEYERS.TRADE]BLINK.

This is the latest and greatest version of Blink shipped with the new
Lattice C version 3.10. This file was uploaded with Kermit in image
mode. The size of the downloaded file on the Amiga is 35256 bytes.

Lattice evidently got fed up with Alink. They no longer ship Alink
with Lattice C, and in fact, Alink can no longer be used to link Lattice
C programs. (Well, Lattice says that you can contact them if you want
a copy of the new runtime library that will work with Alink...)

Lattice and the Software Distillery have extended the object module format
so that Lattice C can do base relative addressing. The new Blink is
upwards compatible with old object files.

    Thanks for uploading blink. Is the command format the same as
    alink?

Re .5:

Is the command format the same as alink? Beats me, I've never seen
a copy of alink.

When I bought my Amiga, everyone in the world ran out of C compilers.
While I was waiting for somebody to restock, Lattice announced the
new version 3.10. So, I started waiting for someone to start selling
the new version. No one locally has the new version, and even the
mail order houses were either out of stock or were selling the old
version. Finally, I ordered direct from Lattice. The package came
last week.

Blink does give a help screen if you just give the Blink command without
arguments. It then prompts for a command line.

BLINK's command line is a superset of ALINK's. I've yet to come across an ALINK
command that BLINK wouldn't scan properly, although the older version of BLINK
that I've been using is lacking in some of the more obscure ALINK features.

I think the new BLINK has everything ALINK has, plus meaningful loader maps.
It's a definite win.

    Thank you for making that available to us. I sure appreciate the
    time and effort that it takes.

    Thanks.
