99.0. "PeopleLink" by JOKE::ACCIARDI () Sat Sep 13 1986 15:18

For those of you who don't know, there is a commercial network called
"PeopleLink", or Plink for short. They are similar to Compuserve,
but much less expensive. (5.95/hr @ 1200 or 2400 baud). There
are presently over twenty MBytes of Amiga PD software that is yours
for the downloading. On Sunday Nites at 9:00 central time, there
is an Amiga conference, where developers, users, and anyone else
can chat, learn the latest gossip, rumors, etc. The sysops are
experts on Amiga stuff, and can answer almost any questions on the
latest hardware & software. Occasionally, someone from Electronic
Arts, or C-A will co-host and field any questions.

There is also a growing Atari ST section with similar features.
There seems to be mass defections from Compuserve for their outrageous
    connect charges.

If you want to give it a try, dial in at any baud rate, (800)-826-8855.
To sign up, answer the questions, and you will be mailed a password
in a few days. You can have your account paid thru MC or Visa,
    if you like.

In case anyone is wondering, the dial in number for online registration
is still good. I just used it.

Have you found out yet whether the $5.95/hr charge is still in
effect? I'm not an AMIGA (or any other PC for that matter) owner
yet, just an interested observer, so far.

I believe PLink is $3.95 an hour if you join the Frequent Plinker
Club ($10 a month). I believe its as low as $2.95 an hour at certain
times (even at 2400 baud). There is no surcharge for Tymnet or Telenet.

The Sept/Oct 88 issue of INFO (page 72) lists the following new(?)
phone numbers for signing up for PLink:

    Voice: (800) 524-0100 or (312) 670-2666

    Modem: (800) 826-8855 or (312) 822-9712

It's also worth noting that PeopleLink has discontinued access via
TYMNET, use TELENET or direct dial. Apparently they decided that
low utilization of TYMNET access no longer justified their costs
    to maintain that service...

SOOOO THAAAATTSSS WHHHYYY I Can't seem to raise PLINK lately. Thanks
for the info. I hope there's popular demand to bring it back; the
nearest Tymnet node was in the next town, making access rather cheap.
Ah well, I guess like other good things, it couldn't last forever.
