1.0. "Welcome" by SPHINX::SWEATT () Sat Apr 26 1986 14:07

    	This notes file is for the discussion of the AMIGA computer.
    Please do not add notes here about the other computers manufactured
    by commodore. Thank you and happy noting.

1.1How about source?GLORY::SHIVESSun Apr 27 1986 17:1911

    What about sources? Is this a good place to share sources for the
    Amiga? I, and I know others have also, downloaded sources from the
    USENET. Also, I'm sure that there will be programs written by the
    readers of this Notes file.

    What would be a good way of shareing and archiving Amiga sources?

1.3Keywords???GLASS::SHIVESTue Jan 26 1988 12:1817
    Mr. Moderator

    	After reading this notefile from the beginning, I have just
    realized that there are no keywords to catagorize the notes. Would
    it be possible to defined some? I think with this file growing
    so large, and the number of new readers, keywords are becoming almost
    a requirement in order to search for something. Typically,
    DIR/TITLE=___ works well because the descriptions follow the subject
    closely, but I am sure that using that method might miss a few.

    I would also like to suggest an note reserved for an index similar
    to other notefiles. I think HOME_WORK is one. This might also
    help in searching such a valuable database.

    I am interested in what others think of this also.

1.4Fish Disk Listing QuestionGLASS::SHIVESWed Feb 10 1988 16:5314

    I wanted to add this here rather than as a reply to note 1156.

    Instead of re-adding the notes (I am sure that this notes file is
    big enough), could the moderator simply move the previous notes.
    It seems to me to be a waste to have all of the disks listed twice,
    but I, too, would like to see them all in one spot.

    Also, re: .-1

    I haven't heard anything about using keywords yet. Does anyone
    else think that this might be a better way to use this notefile?

    I am starting to add keywords now, use SHOW KEYWORD for a list of
    the ones currently defined. Send me your suggestions for others
    which you feel should be added. For the most part I'm using topic
    titles to find notes related to each subject. As you write new
    items, or rediscover old ones, please add the appropriate keyword(s)
    [ADD KEYWORD] to assist newcomers in finding information.

    I also plan to do some house cleaning. There are a lot of really
    obsolete notes (e.g. year-old "For Sale" adds) which can be deleted.
    Some titles ("ex" or "HELP!!!") will probably be changed to make
    them more useful too.

    Having recently joined this conference myself, I can appreciate
    the difficulty of wading through all the "deadwood" that has been
    accumulating here...

Re: .5

	Keywords? Don't bother. As implemented, they're pretty useless.
As for assisting newcomers, it won't help. They won't look. DIR/TITLE
(which I believe is easier for novice noters to understand) would have
prevented hundreds of notes that got written. Can you really say that
keywords will prevent yet another "I'm having trouble downloading" note?
I doubt it.

Mark (who in this case would love to be proven wrong)

    The main advantage of keywords is speed. SHOW KEY/FULL will give
    you a list of candidate notes much sooner than DIR/TITLE. You're
    probably right about novice noters not using keywords, but then
    not all new Amiga users are necessarily new noters. I know I've
    found keywords useful in many instances, provided someone has put
    in the effort to manage them, and they are most helpful over slow
    links.

    An alternative would be including a directory listing in a note.
    I'll probably do that too...
1.8A idea.....WINERY::HARVEYFri Feb 26 1988 23:406
    As an idea how about trying to use a single note for all of the
    FOR SALE/ WANTED notes. To add one of these a person just uses the
    reply function to add his/hers FOR SALE/WANTED ads. This does keep
    the clutter down in other notes files.

    I am not shure if this is the place to put this note and I ask the
    moderator to give me a chance before deleting my entry. I was wondering
    is there any amiga users in Ireland as the majority of notes seem to
    come from the States. If so please reply. Also I bought The Works with
    my Amiga, not long after a virus wipped all my disks including The
    Works I asked the dealer had he got a copy and he didn`t so I was
    wondering is there anyone out there willing to give me a copy (I know
    copying software is illegal but I did BUY The Works originally and
    still have the books so I feel I am justified in my request)

    Thanking you,
                Billy

     Hi Billy

     Rest assured , your not the only Amiga owner in Ireland working for
     DEC. I know of a couple of others here in the Clonmel Plant besides
     myself and there's also a guy in Belfast , don't know about any in the
     Galway plant but according to it's size I'd guess there must be at
     least a few.
     Sorry I can't help you with your problem of disks being wiped by a
     virus as I don't have "The Works" software.

     Where in Ireland are you ?

1.12Cluster alias name change - BOMBE ==> HYDRAHYDRA::MOORESimply reinstall....EVERYTHING!Tue Oct 22 1991 19:308
    The BOMBE cluster is becoming the new HYDRA cluster. (My group owned
    HYDRA once upon a time, now we have our old name back...) Effective
    immediately, all conferences on BOMBE:: are also accessible through
    HYDRA::. BOMBE will continue to be valid for the foreseeable future,
    but HYDRA will be our preferred name.

             Notes> MODIFY ENTRY AMIGA/FILE=HYDRA::AMIGA

1.13HYDRA::AMIGA_V2 supersedes this notesfileHYDRA::MOORESimply reinstall....EVERYTHING!Tue Jan 28 1992 19:0213
    Just a reminder, and for new readers, this conference is "winding down"
    and a new edition is taking its place. Don't be left behind, catch all
    latest Amiga news and hints in AMIGA_V2!

    Assuming you already have this conference entered in you notebook as
    "AMIGA", do the following commands to convert to the new file:

        Notes> MODIFY ENTRY AMIGA/FILE=HYDRA::AMIGA_V1/NAME=AMIGA_V1
        Notes> ADD ENTRY AMIGA/FILE=HYDRA::AMIGA_V2

    This will retain your "seen/unseen" map for the old file, while making
    AMIGA refer to the new volume.

1.14But what about "old" ongoing topic ?PEKING::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Wed Jan 29 1992 07:306
    Just to confirm something.

    I did the changes but I still have some questions going in this one
    from a previously created topic. How does this works ?

    Cheers, Patrick
