281.0. "The Boston Celtics Note" by MCIS2::DHAMEL (Thing of beauty and a boy forever) Fri Nov 06 1992 12:36

I realize there is an entire Celtics conference already alive and well
somewhere else, but I couldn't believe that the only note in ::SPORTS
on the greatest basketball team of all time is the Anti-Celtic note.

So, for the part-time fair-weather Celtic fan like myself who wants to
spread the truth and hear the truth without all the hype and
    propaganda, I dedicate this note.

According to a radio tidbit, there is only one (1) NBA team that does
*not* have a losing lifetime record against the Celtics. The Celtics
can make it unanimous tonight with an opening night win against the
mighty Minnesota Slumberloafs, now tied at 3-3 with the Celts.

Ain't neither one of `em going to win it but at least we'll probably

KJ will only be out 2 weeks (torn abdomen muscle). Negele Knight has
had a great preseason and will be more than adequate with their early
schedule. No need to worry about the Blazer and Jazz games.

The Bulls will lose in the finals.

The C's, inspired by the appearance of Larry at the Garden lasted
night, defeated the World Champion Bulls. Some would say that it was
the non-appearance of Michael that contributed to the win, but we all
know that it was Larry Legend's presence that did it.

It felt like a lifetime but Knicks finally win a regular season game in
Boston Garden. Final score 113-87 - how sweet it is.

Real question: Many teams have had long losing streaks at the Boston
Garden, especially during the Bird era. Was there any franchise that
never won a game in Boston during the Bird era? Some of the expansion
teams may not have, how about teams that were around in 1979-80?

    Yeah,

Pete Crouch and I went to the game last night. It was a very quiet
blowout by the sonics. The Celts don't have anybody. Reggie can't carry
the team, McHale is playing in slow motion (this will probably be his
last year) and the chief can't cut it any more either. None of the
    youth are impact players either...

LAst year with Larry the Celts killed the Sonics. Quiet the difference
with essentially the same teams...what a change 1 year and 1 player
    make...

It must be tough when your life is so miserable and shallow that your

When the Celtics made their stop here in Minnesota, one reporter asked

Classic stuff from Johnny Most. This year has truly been the end of

That voice is one I know my family will not soon forget. We lived
next door to Mr. Most in a condo in Nashua for about a year. Since
we were new to New England at the time, and had no idea he was a
celebrity until a co-worker of mine came over one weekend during the
summer. We were outside and he asked why my neighbor had his radio
turned up so high. And why were the Celtics on? I said, "Oh that's
just my neighbor Mr. Most." He really didn't beleive me until I
introduced Johnny to him. That's when I found out who Mr. Most
	really was.

He really was a genuine friendly person. He promised to take my
wife and I to a Celts game as his guest if we would watch his teenage
daughter while the Celts went on a west coast road trip. As it turned
out, this was the one where he suffered his first heart attack and
we never did make it to the Garden with him, but I certainly never
held it against him. He was forever signing autographs for my son's
	friends.

Well, I never had anything good to say about him, and I still don't.

I was happy when he stopped announcing. Never take joy in anyone's
death, so sympathies to his family.

I do thank Bill Long for his story, because the few folks I know
who met Johnny Most painted a much different picture.

IN '79, I wondered how lucky we were, BIRD, we had BIRD.
he and his Indiana St. buddies flying through the tournament
, what a feeling it was to know that he was ours. Here's
hoping we drop off the side of the earth into the lottery
and Chris Webber comes out. I just will not be able to put
up with Knick friends much longer. Course maybe we will
get Drew Bledsoe, and we Bostonians will have something
    	      sports-wise to latch on to.

And I am sure that you behaved differently in 1985-1987, right???
