183.0. "JoJ's last new topic....I'm outta here" by PARVAX::WARDLE (Blood on the streets up to my ankles) Tue Aug 20 1991 23:44

Hey Lufay, this must be your lucky week....

I'm also leaving Digital. Next week is my last week.

Since I'm not one of those touch feely type guys like JD, I'll just say
"so long to all of you".

Hard to believe, but I've been reading/writing to this conference since
it was a notes11 product. Back to the days of
JimBobDallasDenverJohnnyMost Crews, KRYPTN::Dinsmore the Red Sox fan,
Mr. Boston, Moderator Jim Stratton (a big Jets fan btw),
TURBO::CONTROL, Yankee Joe Shaw.....and all the rest of the lunatics
that used to read this conference.

Here's something you'll all thank me for...I showed Shaughnessy how to
    access this conference.

I remember the first sports noters get together at the Hilltop in
Saugus....Ras even showed up for that in his Yankee jacket. He did skip
    the Golden banana though.

Walt, remember running into Marvelous Marvin and Marina, both on the
    same night...

ha ha, ahhh well, there were some good times.

Oh yeah, I guess this means the end of the Jets Newsletter. I'll be
glad to post the distribution list in case anyone wants to continue it.

And if anyone has "Kenny and the Jets" on line, could you post it in a
reply. It'd be good for a few laughs.

    Later,

    JoJ

183.4An Essay for ya JoJ.....enjoyCAM::WAYMighty Mouse kicks buttWed Aug 21 1991 11:0849
JoJ. Jim On Jets. Jim on Devils. Jim on Seton Hall (Seething Hell?)
Wardlevane.

Irrevocabley intertwined with the fabric, the very lifeblood, of Sports,
is a guy we call JoJ. I read JoJ's notes long before I met him, in fact,
that took about four years from the time I'd first heard of the guy, when
The Dinz asked me to give him membership in the Giants conference. He
was on PARVAX then (as now), but he didn't do a lot of noting.

Next time I came across JoJ was when I first got into Sports, but lo and
behold, JoJ was in the land of the Rockies, doing support or something
like that.

I think that his stint in Colorado might have affected him, because when
he came back he was a lot more yuppified than one would expect. Tales
of brie and perrier, golden retrievers, bran cereal, and rollerblades
abounded, and who would have expected that from a Jersey boy.

At any rate, JoJ came home to his roots, home to where he could shout
about DA DEBILS in real life, home to the stink and stench of the oil
refineries, home to the land of "What exit?", home to the land of his
beloved, albeit second-rate, Jets.

And now JoJ has heard another call. It is a far off call, one that only
someone possessing JoJ's keen hearing would pick up, one that most of
us SPORTS noters have not heard.

Many are called, few are chosen. JoJ has heard the call, and we wish him
the sincerest luck at being chosen. As always, there are those who must
remain behind. There is glory in that too, as there always must be a place
to come home to. And JoJ knows in his heart that he'll always have a home
in SPORTS.

These days SPORTS is changing. Some of the old guard have left Gray Havens
and are passing out of Middle Earth (to borrow a phrase from a writer more
skilled than I). A new breed of noter is emerging, not steeped in the
tradition of the bygone days. With JoJ's passing from this file, yet
another break with the old traditions is occuring.

Good Luck, and Godspeed, JoJ. And remember the Scorpions, dude....

Finally, I'd like to propose that JoJ's Jets.Dis be entered in the
SPORTS HoF, as a sacred piece of the fabric of the SPORTS experience.....

Peace,
Chainsaw

Wait a minute! Has anyone confirmed his leaving the company? This sure
sounds like a TYPICAL Wardle, knee-jerk, reaction to Dan leaving. He's
just trying to see how many of us noters will kiss up to him and say all
kinds of shmaltzy stuff like, good luck and stuff like that. Well not me!
I'm not getting fooled by this feeble attempt of decieved sympathy! No way,
not me. 8^)

Actually Jim, good luck! If in fact you are actually leaving DEC! It's
too bad we never met face to face, but I'll just remember you as I pictured
you in our telephone conversations in Dinsdales office, a wimpy, yuppoid,
faggot that has to tie a 10 lb rock around his waist in a stiff wind so
that he don't blow away!

JoJ, remember my going away party in Morristown? I dunno which I felt
worse about. The way we kept dropping those tequila drinks and all
that broken glass on the floor during the Friday nite yuppie hour (the
manager didn't have to be so chippy about it, the unfortunate misunder-
standing that culiminated in my ripping the front off a poor you-know-

both know and love baiting poor MrT into smashing beer bottles over on
State Road 24 and having to sneak behind the Patio to hide form the
    Morristown Po-lice.

True, the womenfolk from the DEC Parsippany office were disgusted with
us men the following Monday, but at least I didn't have to ever return

Conan-the-Librarian, what a guy. He thanked me for having stopped
referring to him as "Smokey." I'll never forget the men's room
story. Ever seen a 240 lb. musclemain wearing rimless glasses come
up to complete strangers begging for mercy saying "that wasn't me
who did that in there, you cain't put the word out that it was me
who did that. Let's wait here and watch the door and you guys will
see the REAL culprit emerge, the guy who was in the next stall over."

So we wait for five minutes and no stinker. JoJ puts a hankerchief
over his nose and kicks the door open. Empty.

    Haa.

So sorry, but JoJ was there when I dubbed the former college
offensive tackle (Lafayette) Conan-the-Librarian. Reason was
simple: the big guy was a buck stud and a metallurgical engineer
    to boot.

Fwiw, JoJ dubbed *me* Big10 Tom years before I debuted in this
    storied conference.

While my brain pan is rather large, I sense that you are implying that
I have a big ego. This is not so: As I've said in here many many times
    before, I have no ego. I OD'd on 2400 mikes a windowpane at a love-in
in Conifer, Colorado many years ago and suffered what the medical people
diagnosed as "total and irreversible ego loss."

This is how I was able to become a guru of Objective Analysis: I just
have no personal agenda to involve.

As You drive west on 285 near Evergreen there is a small sign mentioning
a point of historical significance. As you get closer the wild flowers are far
more colorful than the others in the area. The sign is is a paisley design
with peace signs etched all over it mentions something about free love and Easy
Riders forever. As you approach there as usually 40 year olds wandering around
looking at the site with a lost EGO type look.

Last I heard some Yuppy in a Sabb bought the land and is planning on building a
miniture golf course for the families in the area.
