182.0. "Official "Schneid Remarks and Happy Hour Note"" by CARROL::LEFEBVRE (Knows his way around a G string) Thu Aug 15 1991 18:04

Well, I was waiting for Dan to enter a note, but if I wait any longer
    no one will show...

Dan's last day is next Friday and his only free night between now and
then is Monday. Therefore, an impromptu get together will be held
after work on Monday, 8/19 at the Ground Round in Chelmsford.

Mods, I didn't want to get this buried in the Official Get-Together
note, cuz I'd like to see if anyone's interested in going.

Remember, Monday after work at the Ground Rond in Chelmsford.

If you're interested, or if you want to send Dan off (which I've been
waiting for almost 5 years to do), note here.

    Mark.

I have two questions.

	1) Dan, you bastard, why didn't you tell us, so we could wail

	2) Why do we have to do these things so FAR NORTH????????

    1. Dan's going to graduate school fulltime (Columbia).

    2. Mac, whattya mean north?

I have to drive home from Chelmsford to Hampton. I'm further from
Chelmsford (Andover) than you are from Hudson.

There's guys from Nashua, Andover and Salem that would like to go.

Hey Lufay --

Do me.

Do it on a weekend, and you can do it at the Sawmill. Ask Kevin what a fun
time that is....8^)

Seriously, I doubt I'll be able to make it up there, but wish Dan luck
for me.

Is this GEEP or is he like leaving DEC totally?

Chances are Dan can still get to us via Mail that way. In fact, if Dan
wanted, he could send me mail and I could post it (totally unadulterated
of course) here in SPORTS. Still, it wouldn't be the same....

Looks like Lufay beat me to it. Sorry SPORTSters, that's the way it
goes, and I'll miss the laughs, arguments and friendships from these
notesfiles. I doubt there will ever be an adequate replacement for
    sports notes outside of DEC.

Yes, I'm leaving DEC. GEEP is for Engineers, and I no longer desire to
be in the technical end of things, scrounging so I can't afford an
overpriced condominium in Massachesetts. Actually, that's not why I'm
leaving. Rather, I always knew I'd return to school, it's just life at
DEC had a way of quickly turning from 2 years planned into 7 years of
    reality.

I'll be at Columbia University in New York City. If any of you come
down that way on business trips or for any reason, be sure to give me a
holler. I'd pass on an address and phone number, but it's such a
secret that *I* don't even know it yet. I'm sure if anyone wants to
reach me, they can get it through Jeff, JoJ or Mark.

Next Friday's my last day, but I really don't know how much I'll be at
work, so just in case, I wish you all well and a fond farewell. I hope
DEC enjoys good times again very soon.

The top then REAL reasons why Dan is leaving DEC to go to grad school at
Columbia:

10. Wants to prove his undergrad degree wasn't benefitted by park
effects.

9. Wants to be in a school where the student-athletes are really
student-athletes.

8. Heard that Columbia girls are easy

7. thought Columbia was where Ohio State played. Figured he could make
catcalls at bob Knight.

6. Wants to go some place where no one knows who Jeff Reardon is.

5. Wanted to be where the real action is in playground hoops.

4. Wants to change name to Biff, date Muffy, and wear cardigans.

3. Always been jealous that Needle is an Ivy Leaguer.

2. Started to grow tired of Maynard.

And the Number 1 reason why Dan is leaving DEC to go to Columbia:

1. The only place he could find that had a worse football team than the
    JETS !!!
182.13Don't worry about lack of ND bashing...CARROL::LEFEBVREKnows his way around a G stringThu Aug 15 1991 20:494

Too much, JD! That's some funny stough. OK, so Dan's leaving. Nice
suggestion to have me act as Dan-net and post stuff for him, but I'll wager
that there are more people who would rather never hear from him again and I'll
side with that camp. Besides, he'll be all over the usenet as soon as he
settles in.

Dan, not going to be at work much? So who's to know the difference from
before? I swear sometimes you had a batch job that just randomly entered notes
about park effects and picked a random Red Sox name. As a matter of fact, even
though he works in my building, I've never actually seen Dan. He's just a
clever (OK, not so clever) computer simulation written by two frustrated
Columbia grad students.

As for the gathering, I don't even know where Chelmsford is. It's up north
somewhere, isn't it? Anyway, I can't make it. But why don't we have a
gathering for Dan after he has left somewhere around Boston? That way we could
have fun and not have to worry about Dan being there.

    ;^)

Anyway, my FEW (Future Ex-Wife) said it's OK so I'm in.
(Since I'm coming from MRO4 and will [hopefully] return to Grafton
after the festivities, anybody (dickstah-MikeC-Mac-?) up for a
    cahpool?)

I had 'nuther (dangerous) thought - if Squawk hasta work Monday,
anybody think it'd be a neat idea to see the yuppie fern bar and havit
at his place? I mean, he's gotta do "it's on me" more than any ol'
waterin hole and we cud appreciatively show him (w/$$$) how goos a bar
    keep he really is!

I think in these tough times of 0.7% "Good Job, here's your raise", it
might be close to the LEAST we could do ;*> I gotsa penny jar FWIW.

Besides, the fruits of his loins appear to be real ath-e-letes worthy
(CLANG) uv a extra buck now and then and since this is so, it is our
DUTY to expose them to the world of bucks and performance.

Dan,

All I can say is to always remember that "Bo Don't Know Milli Vanilli"...

Have fun in school and try to play some rugby while you're there.

Don't do anything foolish, don't take candy from strange men, and
always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.

May the road always rise to meet you, may the cows never shit on
your shoes, Happy Chanukah, and may God always palm you... Or something
like that...

Seriously, BEST O' LUCK Oh Schneid-One...

OK, Hawk, here's the non-weenie guide to harrassing Dan...

First, hit ^Y to get out of NOTES (that is, press the 'CTRL' key and hold it
down whilst simultaneously pushing the 'Y' key).

Next, type 'MAIL'.

A 'MAIL>' prompt will appear.

Type the word 'SEND'.

MAIL will reply with a 'To:' prompt.

At the 'To:' prompt, type DECWRL::"das19@cunixa.cc.comumbia.edu"

MAIL will reply with a 'Subj:' prompt. Type 'Dan, you're a jerk.'

After that, you're on your own.

Hope this helps.

faster than DECWRL:: which is in Palo Alto, CA.

Mike,

Either will work. If you remember Sean Strout, who's now at RIT, I have
two logicals defined for his address, one for DECPA and the other for
DECWRL.

Hawk,

In your login command file, you can do the following:

	DEF THE_SCHNEID_ONE "DECWRL::""das19@cunixa.cc.columbia.edu"""

Then, when sending mail, simply send to THE_SCHNEID_ONE.
If you set your mail transport to NM% (assuming NMAIL is on your system)
you won't have to wait for the connection to take effect....

The PA in DECPA stands for Palo Alto.

There is no east coast gateway, although CRL worked for a while. I find DECPA
to be more accessible than DECWRL. Either is pretty fast. Once it gets out of
DEC, it takes a while to get to Dan. Incoming are much more immediate.
