In addition to a HR last night, Winfield made a good diving catch
on a ball headed to the gap.

Agree with Dinz, there isn't a clearcut favorite in the AL West.

You guys forget that Wally Joyner is leading the MAjors in hitting at
.364. He is also tied for 3rd in RBIs with 34.

Finley leads the A.L in wins at 8-2.

    Langston is 6-1.

Currently the Angels are 2 back of Texas and the Evil A's.

No T. the gag in in Minnesota, the Norf Stars chokded da big 'un vs
    Super Mario & Co.

Hail, even the Twins ain't playing .500 ball. While you cain sip like
that in hockey and make the playoffs, in baseball you gotta win your
division. Da Twins ain't got a prayer.
157.9CARROL::LEFEBVREDoin' it againThu May 30 1991 16:044
Jesse, watch out. The mighty Red Sox are visiting Anaheim(lich
    Maneuver) next week.

    Leessee,

The Rangers are hot, but everyone knows they always melt in the heat in
July and August. The Angels have had everything go their way so far,
and are desperate enough to give a chance to a worn out pitcher that the
Dodgers gave up on last year, when they really needed starting
pitching. KC, the team to really fear, has screwed up the year already.
And the MAriners have shown they may make .500, but aren't ready to
compete with the big boys. And the White Sox are showing that last
    year WAS a fluke.

On the other hand, the A's have been so decimated with injuries that
they have had 5 rookie pitchers on the roster at the same time, their
ace has been injured and is going to have his worst season since he
joined the A's, their hitters haven't started hitting and have been
injured, yet they are in first place. Who shouldn't be a favorite to
    win it all again?
157.11ANGLIN::SHAUGHNESSYPlato,Homer,Voltaire,BobKnightThu May 30 1991 20:5124
Bod, have the Angels ever even *been* to the Big Party where they had
the opportunity to choke? Also, as I remember the Twins didn't
exactly choke either. And to boot, I'm a baseball fan not a_Almost
League fan, so the Twins cain fold for all I care. Write me down
for the Mets in the East and the Reds in the West and any real baseball
club to club the ALmost squad that trots into the Series their puffed-
    up dastisticks (tm).

    So there.

    MrT

ps, the Angels are slated for last in the West, here's how it'll look:

    1. A's
    2. Sox
    3. Rangers
    4. Mariners
    5. Twins
    6. Royals
    7. Angels

But you knew that, Bod. And I steal luv ya, cuz it WAS only a gag!

Good the three game brooming the Angels give the Bosox oughta help the
    Angels in the standings.

    Re Bruce.

I agree about the A's being hurt and still in first. We'll have to see
if they cain keep it up.

    re T.

O.K. so you'z ain't a AL fan. I agree about the NL team thrashing the
AL team cuz the NL team is gonna be the Dodgers, but I already started
    a topic on them.

Bod, quit dabbling with this ALmost stuff. It amounts to a lower form
a species as far as baseball goes. Looky, I grew up trained to hate
the Dodgers but even I must admit that Tommy's a master, that Dodger
Farm yields pitchers like a_Invasion of the Pod People farm, that Eddie
has a shot at MVP this year, that Chavez Ravine is a_idyllic ballpark,
that Ramon Martinez is a revelation and could be the next Roger, that
Sciosia is *so* fine, and that the Dodgers' spanking of the "great" A's
[sic] was the most thigh-shuddering MrT Baseball Experience ever, with
me in paroxyms a feral fibrillations when Big10 main Kirk drove the
stake into that animal rights activist's furrowed brow (him thinking,
"duh, this no DH thing's got me all mixed-updon't know why they
keep axeing me to work with this line-up card after I hand it over to
the ump when the game starts, this ain't fair!")

Concentrate on the Reds as your competition. Natural Baseball is such
    a beautiful game...

    T. Your appreciation for that Awesome Dodger victory shows the class
and objectivity that truly separates you from the bitter folks who
    chose to belittle great accomplishments.

    >>>Ramon Martinez is a revelation and could be the next Roger

Again, a truly insightful, objective reply. You do know your pitching!!
In all fairness to Martinez, we'd like him to not be like Roger in that
we'd like to see him win in the postseason and help the Dodgers WIN
another WS, something Roger ain't never done.

As for the Angels, Winfield had a great weekend, knocking a couple a
dingers and knocked in 8 runs on Sat/Sun. Congrats Dave!
