110.0. "Mid-American Conference" by SHALOT::MEDVID (god is war,TV preacher tell me more) Mon Feb 25 1991 17:00

    Not that anybody cares, but I just wanted to start this note because
    I'm so happy that Ohio University is not on the bottom of the
    Mid-American Conference any more. Could be a return to the
    championship days they had under Danny Nee while I was there.

110.1Northern Illinois SHALOT::MEDVIDgod is war,TV preacher tell me moreMon Feb 25 1991 17:036
    I find it interesting that Northern Illinois dropped out of the MAC a
    few years ago to become a "Major Independent." Now they've joined a
    lesser conference, the Mid-Continent Conference, and should win it
    hands down and go into the NCAAs with a 20+ win record.

    I was at Columbus Ohio this year at times between August and October,
    and saw 2 games involving the Buck eyes.

    Could someone tell me how their season finished.

    I met a guy who said that he played for the Buckeyes,

    ......... Foley, is there any one with that name on the team??

    I remember that the Hoosiers used to scheudule the team from Athens,
    Ohio as a_annual cupcake. Pretty green uniforms, but not much talent
    back then. But then again, the overachieving Hoosiers didn't have that
    much talent, neither.

    When is "back then"? Other than a span of years from 81-87, Ohio
    University never was good in basketball (although I think they did make
    several NIT appearances in the 50's).

    That all would be different now had the Big 10 taken them instead of
    Michigan State a few decades back. But I've told that story before.

    Guess MSU had prettier green uniforms.

    The MAC has three teams in post-season play this year. That's the most
    they've had in a few years.

    Eastern Michigan in the NCAA.

    Bowling Green and Ball State in the NIT.

    During the mid 80's there were times the conference had four or five
    teams in the post-season shows. Back then, Miami and Ohio U were both
    making regular appearances in the NCAA...Miami lost two years in a row
    on last second miracle shots in the first round. Heartbreaking.

    Ball State made a great showing last year and was the closest team in
    the Big Show to knocking of UNLV.
