    I don't know, what do
    you think ???   Does
    Palmer still have any
    speed left in his
    fast ball ???   What
    about his curve ball,
    too ???

    And do you think he
    can still do Jockey
    commercials ???
    Should be interesting.

93.2It's Jimmy!!WLDWST::JOHNSON_DTue Feb 05 1991 03:316
    Well to tell the truth, I've only seen his great years
    on film and the later part of his career I was a very
    young man,but they way he sounded in his interveiw
    he was very confident he can have a good affect on a
    pitching staff. Does anyone know what team is he trying
    too make his comeback with
93.3..and does he want $2M/yr too?KAOFS::WATTERSWed Feb 06 1991 22:284
    The Expos say they'll look at him.
    They've been lucky w/ given players a 2nd chance (Martinez, Boyd)

    Jim Palmer has officially been invited to attend the Orioles' spring
    training camp as a non-roster player.

    Would be a hell of a story if he does make it back, and I wish Jim
    well, but I hope both Palmer and O's management have the sense to say
    "enough" if it becomes clear that Palmer can't contribute.

Paul,

How bout another update on the Palmer situation. Last I knew
he was only getting about 79mph on his fastball....

I'm not an Oriole fan, but I'm really kind of pulling for this guy....

93.6Palmer update, doesn't look good...STAR::YANKOWSKASPaul YankowskasTue Mar 12 1991 12:0511
    A couple weeks late, but...re .5:

    Palmer pitched two innings against the Red Sox yesterday; he allowed
    five hits and two runs in two innings work. One Boston radio station
    said that Palmer's fastball was clocked at only 80 MPH. Based on this,
    and a shaky outing in an intersquad game last week, I have to doubt
    that Jim will be on the O's 25-man roster come April.

93.7Looked OK, but served up some fat onesSHALOT::MEDVIDwild but not lostTue Mar 12 1991 12:484
    Palmer's delivery looked really slow also. Did he always have such a
    high kick or is he now trying to compensate for a lack of power?

Speaking of comebacks, any word on how Danny Cox has been doing at Phillies
camp?

    What happened to his reported 85mph fastball we heard about in Feb? I
    read the fastest he was clocked at was 75mph, and his control was
    pretty poor.

    Palmer's 85 MPH fastball was clocked going down hill...

    I didn't see Dewey Evans listed in the box score. Is he just gathering
    dust or is he hurt again?

    I thought Palmer would have had more pride. He really looked beat to
    hell after the few innings he pitched. Oh, well...thanks for the
    memories, Jim.

    Looks like he'll be announcing in his underwear again pretty soon.

    "Say, is that a microphone in your pants or are you happy to se me?"

    Well, in case some of you didn't hear, Palmer announced his
    re-retirement yesterday. Seems he pulled a hamstring and has wisely
    decided that he doesn't have it anymore.
