Cavs are done with Price hurt and Williams is still out. Obviously
there is no need to point this out as the Cavs (just like the Browns)
fight for the 1st pick in the draft.

I'm kind of surprised that they didn't try to pick up Reggie Williams
from the waiver wire, but I guess Wilkens had enough of his bad
attitude last year. He was doing a good job stat-wise in SA, so one
can only guess that his attitude cost him that job too.

I'd love to see Brent Price and Mark Price as the Cavs starting guards
in the future. Is Brent a sophomore or freshman?

55.2of course he could declare earlyCHIEFF::CHILDSI could use a dramatic sting hereWed Jan 09 1991 19:447
Paul, Bret's probably a junior with 2 yrs of eligibility left after this one.
He orginial went to South Carolina before transfering to Oklahoma. He had to
sit out a year as SC wasn't on double secret probation or anything like that.

Maybe the Cavs will take a shot on Jay Edwards who was waived by the
Clippers. They could use a shooting guard and Jay has more potential
than some of the stiffs crowding the pine in Cleveland.
55.8Please, no MAJOR infuries this year!SNDCSL::HAUSRATHRockin' in the Free WorldWed Nov 06 1991 15:3116

Pretty quiet in here. From what I hear, Price is almost back. The
Cavs are restricted from bringing him back for some time, however,
because of some quirck in the salary cap that allowed them to sign
    Terrel Brandon.

From what I here they're playing well together and the big men have
bulked up (Daugherty gained 20 pounds, while reducing his body fat).

Tough way to start out with a 5 game western swing, however, it's
better to get it over with now, than down the stretch. If they
come off the road trip 2-3 I'll be happy.

My season prediction.. 45 wins.. 3rd or 4th place in the Central.

I caught the game the other night when they won. I only watched
the first half. Price won't be back untill January is what I hear.
Everyone just hopes that they can stay close untill he gets there.

Not too bad.	Ferry looked good too. Add Price and you never

    	Jeff,
I watched the opener and boy does Mark make the team look
good. When he was in the game, the Cavs built a big 21 point lead.
They took him out at the end of the third quarter because he was
winded. The lead fell to only 6 by the end of the game. Price is
the spark the Cavs needed. I'm sure this changes the books. Look
    	for a long winning streak.

Gotta agree, Hal. Mark Price is the key to success for the Cavs.
Let's hope Terrel Brandon can be the backup point guard they've needed

In all fairness, the Cavs have been simply decimated by injuries the
last few years. I felt they were well on the way to becoming
legitimate champeenship contenders, but when Daugherty, Nance and Price
all got injured (among others), there was no way they were going to
    anything.

As for Price/KJ - before the injury, it was a wash - but to tell ya the
truth, I liked Price better. But, both players give their teams what
they want. KJ is a little flashier, but I think Price runs the offense
    better.

That's true, but they never gave him a chance to show what he can do.
I still can't believe they traded Harper for Ferry.

That Harper-Price backcourt was as good as any in the league. They
might have even gone a few rounds in the playoffs, if they kept him.

The Harper trade MAY have been a mistake... But that has nothing
to do with the trading KJ. Brandon has played well to start
the season and the big weakness from last year (the backcourt)
    appears to be solid.

I just hope Price isn't coming back too early!

They are now 4-4 after starting out 1-4 with a 5 game road trip
to open the season. They could have made the playoffs if Price
    waited until January to return.

Harper for Ferry wasn't a mistake; it was a disaster! A disaster
they're committed to for years to come. To think that they traded
an all-star guard and draft picks for the second coming of Mark
Alarie. Wayne Embry should have been sent packing a long time ago.
He almost makes Bill Russell look good.

Other than the fact that he's not shooting well, it's kinda hard to

Well after a dismal 1st half the Cavs pulled out a much needed victory
over the Nets last night coming back from 71-54 to win it 118-114.
Price was big down the stretch hitting a bunch of free throws to seal it.

Another home victory for the Cavs on Saturday, taking it to the
Pistons (about time!). Looks like the power shift in the Central is
complete, with the Pistons headed down quickly and the Bulls playing
inspired ball since their slow start. Should be a runaway year for
the Bulls, I don't see anyone else in the Central winning 50 games.

Tough one for the Cavs last night.. thought they might pull this one
out after sticking with the Bulls for 3 quarters, but the poor shooting
(43%) took it's toll down the stretch. 'Da Bulls squecked out a
close one 106-100. 13 in a row for the Bulls who are in a class by
    themselves so far this year.

Anyone have any information on this Henry James guy? Is he a rookie?
He made 3 key turnovers and fouled out of last nights action.. didn't
sound too impressive on the radio.

That makes two of us that are surprised that the Cavs released

The Cavs did not have the best record in the East that year, Detroit
did. Cleveland was on the way to the best record when one of the
goons on the Pistons accidentally created contact and put Mark Price
out for the last month of the season. When the Cavs played the Bulls
in the playoffs Price was about 50%. These are not sour grapes. My
point is that with Price and Daugherty at 100%, the Cavs will contend.
This assumes that the rest of the team is not out with injuries. If
Price or Daugherty are out, they can forget about it.

Considering the 1-5 start and the current 22-9? record, I'd like to
know which team other than Chicago is playing better ball than
    Cleveland?

Also didn't the Cavs just beat Chicago last time they met? Kwak, Cleveland's
more than hot they're good definately contenders if everyone stays healthy.
While GS also has a fine team they lack consistant play or height at the
center posistion so in a 7 games series a team with a good or good big
man/men will feast on the missing piece of GS...

Cleveland is hanging tough... They have the best home record in the
NBA, are one of 4 teams with winning road records (they beat Boston
and NY back to back, not an easy feat), and they have the 2nd best
record in the league. They have won 11 in a row and I believe they
have 5 or 6 more at home in a row... but they won't be easy games...

The game last night was a good one! The Cavs looked out of it

too late. Terible officiating! The fast break killed them. So

The Cavs looked sick yesterday night. Poor rebounding in the
second half and poor foul shooting lost the game for them. They
had Jordan with 4 fouls at the beginning of the 3rd but then the
officials wouldn't call another one. It was getting rediculas there
towards the end. Jordan could do anything he wanted including
crawling up Ferry's back and not get called. The Cavs were within
3 with 7 min to go. If there is one basketball player I hate....it
is Jordan! He just gets away with too much. He can push, shove and

Excuses were made for the loss? False! Heiser tried to make it sound
like the undermanned Celtics team thrashed a full healthy Cavs squad
which is completely false. There are no excuses. On Jan 20th in
Richfield, OH the better team won. That day, the Celtics team that
took the floor was better than the Cavs team. Since the start of the
season, the team records indicate otherwise.

Too bad the Cavs didn't have more games against the Pistons to help

cleveland can do is the #3 as far as I can tell and that would put them

If Cleveland has the 2nd best record in the East, then they would get
the home court advantage against the #3 seeded team. At least, that's
the way it worked a couple of years ago, when the 76ers won the
Atlantic. They didn't have the home court advantage over the Bulls( I
think) that season because the Bulls had a better season record. If it
still works the same, the Cavs would have to be the favorite against
    whoever came into Richfield.

Walt is correct. The seeds only determine matchups, not home court.

If Cleveland is #3 at season's end, they will play the #6 team. If
they advance, they would play the winner of #2 and #7. #1 (Chicago)
plays #8 and the winner plays the survivor of #4 and #5.

So, the bottom line is that the race for 2nd best record, will
determine who has home court (as it stands now, NY or Clev.) in the
second round, provided no upsets occur in the 5 game mini's.

Of course, we have a long way to go yet, so it's too early to worry
about playoff seedings, however, tonights game at MSG should be a
good one, none the less. Daugherty has had Patricks number in the
previous 2 meetings (Cavs victories), have to see if the trend
    continues.

Well, the CAVs pulled one out vs the Suns yesterday, riding the 4th
quarter heroics of Mark Price. Down 9 with about 5 minutes left the
Cavs mounted a comeback by hitting 4 big 3-point buckets - 2 by Mr.
Clutch (Mark Price). Price also had a driving layup and 2 foul shots
down the stretch and finished the game with 24 points.

Price proved once again that the CAVs traded the right guard when they
sent Kevin Johnson packing to the Suns.

    OKAY, enough for my Heiser-ism.

These teams have played extremely even in their two meetings this
year.. the make-up of the Suns and Cavs are very similar, both teams

So true. I've really enjoyed both games and it would be fun to watch.
FWIW, the final was 102-100. The two games were decided by a total of
    4 or 5 points.

The offensive foul call, by Referee Alexander, on Jeff Hornacek with 1

Sorry Air,

The sonics were a much better team then their 6th place finish showed. Once they
dumped KC and brought in Karl they were one of the top teams in the west.
Add in the fact that they match up very well against GS and I don't think that
their beating of GS (I won't count my chickens yet) would be much of an upset.

They are capable of beating anybody in the west (although Portland still has
their number this year). I don't expect to see them in the finals but I would
not be wholly suprised if they get there.

but Paul...I still don't see Cleveland making it past Chicago.....

The Nets beating the Cavs would be a huge upset...the sonics beating the Warriors
is actually what I expected. At best it was a 50-50 chance...

I like the change in attitude of the so called local sports experts.
During the Pacers series they were asking if Chris Ford could afford
to give Larry Bird significant playing time if and when he returns.
That the team chemistry would be disrupted and the team defense
would suffer. They lose one game to the Cavs and all of a sudden
its "No Bird, no championship..." attitude. Typical.

Well, its only one game and Cleveland must win tonight to hold the

The Cavs are definitely a different team with Eloh and Price in the lineup.
They definitely can do more things, and are very difficult to defense. On the
other hand, the single most important player on the Celtics (IMHO) remains
Robert Parish. If he can come out of the fog, and at least play even with
Doughty, the Celtics will be fine.

As a 'Tics fan, I can excuse the over exuberance of the Cadavs fans

Naw it's got to go deeper than that. He's been slapping young buck stud
centers around for years. He was slumping against Indiana who was basically
centerless. I think he's getting to much nookie at home and it's taking
away his edge. Like Sampson's suffering with Delia all of men's problems

I think the Cavs are a better team with Ehlo instead of Harper. Or is it
just coincidental the Mark Price became a much better player after Harper
was dealt to the Clippers.

And, FWIW, I'm a fan of Harper's so this isn't a rap on him. Of course
the problem was with getting Ferry, not who they got rid of...

I see your point TTom but who's to say with both Harper and Price maturing,
 Price wouldn't have gotten better?

I suppose you could make a point that without Harper taking all the shots,
Price was forced to become a better offensive player but Harper's maturity
has led him from an individual to a team player. If he underwent the same
transformation in Cleveland and the Cavs had those draft picks they gave
 up, ummhh???

My user disk is off-line so I can't go back and look at the stats for
Parish's games vs. Daugherty, but generally Daugherty runs him ragged
and eats his lunch. I doubt it's his ankle. He just can't keep up, as
    /Don says.

Bird would really help in this series. The Cavs simply don't turn the
ball over (I think they had the best steal to turnover ratio in the
league), and they could really use a skilled floor captain. Somehow I
don't think Bagley is the man, but I've eaten crow on him more than a

Unlike whoever pissed Hal off, I never thought Boston was a lock

always the expectation around these here parts that the 'Tics will go

Neither did any of the other teams in the league if I recall. Says alot for

I don't know if that's standard practice in the NBA or not. I know in

and no shows. I feel if the NBA required teams to list their
attendances this way, several "sell out" strings (and not just the

I don't understand why this is so important to you, though. Isn't it

Mac, the article might have been based on more than a single game,
however, the jist of Gearan's dump on Brad was that his lack of
rebounding in game 3 cost the CAVs the game. What Gearan failed to
mention is that the CAVs are not known as a rebounding power,
yet they managed to handily out rebound the Nets in the 1st series. The
Nets, by the way can be considered a rebounding power.

Daugherty carried the team in game 1 of the Nets series and was an
impact player in all but game 3 of this series - points Gearan

Apparently the Cavs didn't have anyone scouting the Knicks_bulls
series because they didn't do any of the things that enabled the
Knicks to push Chicago to seven games. Cleveland was weak on the
offensive board, they let Pippen go to the hoop with impunity and
were just plain soft all-around. If they play the rest of the series

Cleveland does not have the quantity of large rebounding front court
players that New York has. Cleveland has never been a good rebounding
team. New York's strengths were aligned with Chicago's weaknesses.
Unfortunately, this is not the case for Cleveland. Cleveland will have
to play outstanding basketball each time out to win.

Chicago is the better team. They won 10 more games during the regular
season, which is significant. They are the defending champions.

    RE: Fans booing Jordan..

I believe this boils down to the last time these teams meet in the
playoffs (89?).. Jordan drove inside was hacked (non-flaggarently -
proven by replay) by Ehlo and stayed down for a few minutes with a twisted
ankle. The game was in Chicago and the fans didn't let Craig forget
the foul as they booed every time he touched the ball from that point
on. Jordan proceeded to pick himself up and single-handedly beat the
CAVs. I suspect the Cleveland fans haven't forgotten this incident (I
haven't) and thought they'd return the favor to his "Highness".

Gotta agree with Mike on Jordan travelling.. In one of the two games
he moved both feet after taking the pass before putting the ball on the
floor.. he also tends to palm the ball a lot.

CAVs are even in this series DESPITE the refs, though.

Jordan yesterday. I know Ehlo burned the Celtics (Bagley, especially)
but I didn't think he could take such liberties so often with Jordan.
I've always felt that Jordan was a better than average defensive player
and never considered Ehlo that much of a 1-on-1 guy. Either Jordan was

    1) 10/3/77 - Cavs trade their first round picks in 1981 (Al Wood - #6)
and 1983 (Rodney McCray - #3) for Terry Furlow, a marginal swingman who
died in a car crash after two unproductive years, right after they
traded him for Atlanta's first round pick in 1983, Derek Harper.
But Harper never plays for the Cavs - see trade #3

    2) 2/15/80 - Cavs trade Butch Lee and their #1 pick in 1982 (James
Worthy!!!) to LA for LA's #1 pick in 1980 (Chad Kinch!!!!!) and Don
Ford. Worthy was the #1 pick in the country; Kinch was 22nd!

    3) 10/30/80 - Cavs trade Atlanta's #1 pick in 1983 (Harper), their
own #1 pick in 1986 (Roy Tarpley!!!) and Bill Robenzine to Dallas for,
get this, Jerome WHitehead and Richard Washington!!!!! Whitehead
played only 3 games for Cleveland before they cut him; Washington
play two decidedly unspectacular seasons in Cleveland.

    4) 2/7/81 - Cavs trade #1 pick in 1985 (Detlef Schrempf!!!) and Chad
Kinch for Geoff Huston and a third round pick.

    5) 9/16/81 - Cavs trade #1 pick in 1986 (Sam Perkins!!!) for Mike
    Bratz!

    6) 6/18/85 - Cavs trade their #1 pick on draft day (9th overall)
Charles Oakley and their #2 pick Calvin Duncan for Bulls #1 pick
(11th overall) Keith Lee and Ennis Whatley.

    7) 2/25/88 - Cavs trade 1988 #1 choice (14th overall - Dan Majerle!),
two second round choices, Kevin Johnson, Mark West, and Tyrone Corbin
to Phoenix for Larry Nance, Reggie WIlliams and Detroit's #1 pick
    (25th overall - Randolph Keys).

    8) 11/16/89 - Cavs trade Ron Harper, their 1990 #1 pick (13th overall
    - Loy Vaught), their #1 pick in 1992 and their #2 pick in 1991 for Danny
    Ferry and Reggie Williams.

In sum, the Cavs could have added the following players to their
current roster: Derek Harper, James Worthy, Detlef Schrempf, Roy
tarpley, Sam Perkins, Charles Oakley, Dan Majerle, Kevin Johnson,
Mark West, Ty Corbin, Ron Harper, and Loy Vaught, and only lost
Larry Nance and Danny Ferry off their current roster!!! That's an
entire team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never mind their current roster - just
use those players and they'd win the NBA title!!!!!

    Here's the Cavs would-have-been team:

Point guards - Derek Harper, Kevin Johnson
Shooting guards - Ron Harper, Dan Majerle
Small Forwards - James Worthy, Detlef Schrempf, Ty Corbin
Power forwards - Sam Perkins, Charles Oakley, Loy Vaught
Centers - Roy Tarpley, Mark West, Chris Dudley

Even given that you dump tarpley because of his drug troubles, you
could win multiple NBA titles with that team!!!! The only problem
would be giving everyone enough playing time.

The 4th quarter of game 5 had the Bulls playing up to their potential. Of course
it helped that Daugherty and Price were hurt. Now the Bulls just have to show some
consistancy. I think Cleveland will win tonight in a big emotional game but
lose the 7th. Chicago seems to playing well enough to win, so they will pull this
one out as well..

Portland/Chicago should be interesting.... (Portland/Cleveland would not be too
shabby either)

See last night's episode of "Northern Exposure". Greatest line I've
heard in ages.

Basically Chris is talking about a lost year during his midlife crisis.
(He and Holling are getting drunk as Holling is going through his crisis)
and Chris says the one thing he remembers is 3 months naked in a cave
in Mexico. He said there were these neat hot springs right outside the
cave with watercress growing there.

He said he's just get down on all fours and kind of "graze".

Holling replies "You think slower whne you graze".....

Watched the first two games of the season....

Game 1: Loss, Ehlo makes big mistake with less than 30 sec left.
he reaches around Jordan and fouls. If he hadn't of done
that, the Cavs would have gotten the ball back with about
16 seconds left in the game and only down by 1 point. But
oh noooooooo, with the foul, the Bulls were able to run the
clock out not having to take a shot. Another foul and the
Bulls making both foul shots put them up by 3 with less
than 5 seconds left. A wild 3 point attempt by Price then
another foul and the game is over. The Cavs shot poorly
adding to the problem....39% from the field. Blame
    		Ehlo for this loss.

Game 2: Cavs did everything right in this game. They couldn't be
stopped. Papers want to say Ehlo won this game for the
Cavs scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds.

He can score, he can pass, he can rebound and he can play D. The only thing

Hal, Magic, Michael, Sir Charles, Ewing, Malone, Akeem and even the great
Larry Bird have all missed shots at the end of the game that have cost their
teams a win or two. It happens NBFD. They've all also thrown away a pass or
two. You shouldn't discount what said player has given the team the other
47 minutes of the game. Afterall without Elho contributions earlier in the game
would they even be in a posistion to win? Basketball is a game where everyone
has a role and Elho fills out his role admirably in Cleveland's scheme. Sure
there are better players at his posistion but they might hurt the chemistry
of the team where as Elho seems to be a perfect fit...

Bursitis:

Joints are lubricated by something called synovial fluid.
This fluid is, I believed contained in little sacs called
bursa. When these become inflammed it is bursitis. (An
	"itis" ending usually indicates inflammation).

Tendinitis:

An inflammation of the tendons. Tendons are attached to
bones on one end, and muscles on the other, and are what
the muscle uses to apply forces to the bones, thus making
	movement.

I don't know much about Sports medicine. Most doctors will say, if you're
arm hurts when you do that, don't do that.

I'll ask my brother for more info. He's an RN in the OR, and knows a
sh*tload more about this stuff than I do......

Well, the Cavs are back to their powerfull selves again showing
the Knicks that roughhouse basketball doesn't work on at team that
knows how to put the foulshots in the basket. Thats where this game
was won...on the free throw line. Sorry Mike, maybe next year....but
then again, I don't think so.
The announcers were saying that the Knicks played their best game
of the year in the first half and was only up by 5 at the half. The
Cavs kept plugging away with price leading the way. Then, the big
third quarter.....with Danny Ferry making some big shots...even the
    game clinching 3 pointer.
One fight in the game...Ehlo and some guy from NY...Ehlo fouled
the guy then the guy came out hitting Ehlo in the face. Foul on Ehlo
and a big T on NY. After than NY was dust in the wind.
The Cavs are rated #2 at making foul shots and the tactic of being
physical just won't work...take the hint.
Mark Price didn't play the 4th quarter last night because of a
brused hip. I don't think it is a big deal. Brandon came in and did a
    great job in his place.
The Cavs also just traded Steve Kerr yesterday...sorry to see him
go, he wasn't getting much playing time because of the great backups
the Cavs have and with Ferry playing so good.

was squashed last night after the game when Ehlo was interviewed.

Hal, remember that there are only 5 leftovers from last year's
Knickerbocker team. They're playing at a pretty good pace while
still learning each other. Cleveland is breaking in one significant
new player into their lineup. I still say that by the end of the
year the Knickerbockers will be the best team in the East if Michael
misses any significant amount of time.

    	Don,
I think NY is the best in thier own division but if they
were in the Cavs division....they really wouldn't have a chance at
winning the 1st place seed. With da bulls and bucks, it would be a
tough haul. Like I said, NY played a great game in the first half,
but couldn't pull away. Play a physical game against the Cavs and
    you'll lose every time!

Hal, 31 more free throw attempts for the Cavs than the Knicks?

Might not have been some home cooking there?

Knicks held the Cavs to 39% FG shooting, and shot 48% themselves.
Sounds like they deserved a better fate.

We'll see what happens a little later in the season.

Any reason why Gerald Wilkins only played 8 minutes against
his former team, or is that normal for him with the Cavs so far?

More fouls.....don't really think there was any home cooking going
here at all. The Knicks were trying to be physical all over the floor
and they were called. As far as Williams goes...not sure...the
announcers were also asking the same question.

Cavs have been having lots of trouble without Mark Price in the
lineup. Price was knocked out in the game against the Knicks and
hasn't come back yet....not sure when he will get back either. Without
Price, Brandon is expected to play his spot but has trouble driving
into the lane when the clock is running out....
The bench blew the game the other night against LA. Terrible game
to watch. Wasn't able to pick up the Bulls game.
Bad luck for the Cavs so far this year....beginning with losing

The Cavs come off with a big victory at Washington. It took overtime
to do it and shooting 100% from the field in OT helped. Mark Price
was the man of the hour yesterday with Ehlo comming on in OT to help
put it away. Great game. This makes 6 in a row. Officials stunk!
Washington looked like a real good team with lots of potential. Cavs
were in the lead for most of the game with many 3 pointers thrown up
    by both clubs.

Good game by the Knicks last night. They have had a tough time beating the Cavs.
They also increased their lead over the Cavs for 2nd best record in the conference.
Not that important yet, but nice.

Yep, the Cavs lost to New York last night but have only themselves to
blame. Too many turnovers and not enough rebounds. Physical game
once again. Officiating was to be desired. Bluntant fouls not called.
Nance in foul trouble early. Hot Rod out. Cavs went with a three
    guard line.

Tough schedual for the Cavs....last night New York...tonight its the
Bulls. Look for a comeback tonight.

Comments on the game....Sanders was taking many shots he shouldn't
have. Price taking it to the paint when he should have passed. Nance
in foul trouble. Daughtery took three point shot at the end of the
game when he should have passed. Ehlo no factor. Ferry no factor.
New York was overplaying the first pass getting the turnovers. New
York got the ball off the glass. Cavs wern't putting hands up on
    outside shots.

Was surprised the Cavs were able to stay in the game with all the
    turnovers and poor rebounding.

What a game last night against the Bulls. The name of the game...
Price and Daughtery! Daughtery inside and Price outside. Mark hit
3 3-pointers in a run that did the Bulls in. Jordan had no clue and
was taken out of the game. Ferry had a good game scoring 12. Ehlo
and Wilkins held Jordan in check. Price got hit in the Eye by
Cartwrite which required 3 stiches. We had a scare when Nance was
taken to the locker room limping. He went up for a block and came
down on a Bulls player leg then layed on the ground in pain. Late
in the game he came back out and even played the rest of the 4th.
The crowd went crazy when he came back out. Great game! Got to
    love it!
I got this thing in the mail yesterday called sports pages.
It had two sample pages...one of Jordan...all the stats...I gave it
to one of my kids to give to one of his friends at school since his
friend says he is a Bulls fan...I call him a bandwagon jumper because
his teams in all sports are the 1st place teams. Anyway, while I
wasn't looking, Roger takes this picture of Jordan and scribbles all
over it. I couldn't help but laugh.

While Price & Daugherty are clearly the leaders of the Cavs, something
too must be said about Larry Nance. While Price & Daugherty stand
good chances to play at the All-* game, Nance has had just as good a
    season - 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and almost 3 blocks a game,
a .538 FG% and an incredible .919 FT%, plus as always his quiet
leadership. An amazing year for someone thought to be in the twilight
    of his career.
