The league mentioned below used to be big time. But recently the ball
field was turned into a Driving Range/mini golf. Since buy-outs and
closing of NRO1, the league may not happen this year. It will be open
to anyone (not just NRO employees). If interested, take note.

Subject: EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES NOTICE

              ***************************************************
THIS MESSAGE IS FROM EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES
                  *******************************************

Site Personnel is evaluating the interest of employees for a 1991 "Softball
League." As you may or may not already know, the field we were using on
Whitney St. is no longer available to Digital. We are currently considering
using a town field in Berlin.

We are now asking for employees who are interested in making a commitment
to playing on the 1991 league to send their names, mailstops and DTN's to:

Donna Joyce either on vaxmail at GOLF::JOYCE, on ALL-In-1 JOYCE @NRO.

The information will be reviewed on April 1. Thank-you!

Direct any questions to the Employee Activities Office at DTN 234-4056.

Hawk, you should start a collection from the sports noters in here
to sponsor a team in your league. I'm willing to bet that if everyone
kicked in 5 bucks we could get the 200 in no time.

Hi guys. I am looking to recruit some football talent for a 7 or 9 man
toch/flag football team to play in central MA or Southern NH.

If you are interested or have a friend who might be, send mail to this
node, or call me at 223-3428. Right now I'm looking for linemen-types,
but skill players should apply as well.

Warning : The league I want to register in is competitive. We all plan
to have fun, but make no mistake, we are out to win, so plan
    accordingly.

Football season is from Sept. thru Thanksgiving.

    Hope to hear from y'all,

Mouse Midnight how you going to run and shoot with only 9 guys? In worcester
atleast 4 if not 5 of those guys are ineligible. If you don't keep a back in
to block your QB will get clocked every play....

I like the new moniker though...

Nah, the 3 linemen are inelgible. That leaves four recievers and a back
    as possible receivers.

Of course the problems with leaving a back in to block is an old one
for the R&S, I guess I'll call Warren and ask him how he handled it ...

Volunteers needed for Digital Seniors Golf Classic

Volunteers are needed for the 12th annual Digital Seniors Golf Classic,
to be held Aug. 5-9 at Nashawtuc Country Club, Concord, Mass.

As in the past, the tournament is expected to attract many of the top golfers
on the Senior PGA Tour, including defending champion Rocky Thompson. Lee
Trevino, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Bob Charles and many other golf
legends are expected to tee off as well.

ESPN will broadcast the tournament live beginning Friday, Aug. 7 and
wrapping up with the final round on Sunday, Aug. 9. Because of the TV
coverage, more than 1,000 volunteers from Digital and the surrounding
community, as well as local civic and charitable organizations, will be
needed to make the tournament run smoothly.

Volunteers can serve in a variety of capacities: general course marshals,
greens reporters, walking marshals and walking scorers. You don't have to
know how to play golf to volunteer for the event. High school and college
students are especially needed to fill volunteer positions for pre- and
post-tournament work, including installation and removal of signage, roping
  and fencing.

Pat Cataldo, vice president of Education and Consulting Services, is
organizing chairman of the tournament. He says the Classic is a major
business and charitable event for Digital. "Hundreds of customers
participate in a Corporate Leaders Forum, play in the pro-am portion of the
tournament, and meet with Digital executives.

"Proceeds from the Classic also support a number of local charities,
including Emerson Hospital and Project Concern at Hanscom Air Force Base,"
Pat continues. "In fact, we expect more than $80,000 in contributions to be
  realized this year."

For more information on how you can volunteer, contact Sandy Taylor,
  DTN 244-7941 (GIAMEM::STAYLOR or Sandy Taylor @AKO).

Well, Nelly.. there's always the D-division.. since you feel you're not

Anyhow, the difference between divisions is pretty slim these days,
with the exception of the top 4-5 teams in the league (some in
A-division, some in B). I've played on my share of quality teams..
Angels in the early '80s, Buzzards in the mid 80's, and my current team
    has decent talent too.

I play for enjoyment now.. I don't have the time for the full time

Those 2 years that my team won the C division championship was alot of
fun, the most fun I ever had in a softball league. And, because of
being 2-time champs, we got bumped-up to the A league, which was a real
jock league then (and maybe now, who knows). The fun was totally gone,
not just because we consistantly got trashed, but because of the way
the game was played- much too serious, 100%. We weren't used to that,
and really didn't want that. As good a team as we were in that C
division, we were still a C Division team in the A Division. Our team
disbanded after that no-fun season. What really sipped is that we
probably would've stuck together for many more years had we stayed in
the C Division. Win or lose, champeenship or not, we were there
    because we enjoyed it...

Agreed Hawk.. My first year on my present team we won the C-division,
we had a great time and had some real intense games. In B we landed in
the middle of the pack the first year, and somewhat lower the 2nd
year. When the league split to 4 divisions we ended up in C, where we
finished in 2nd place.. The bottom line to having fun is matching up
talent-wise on a team by team basis. Winning is great, but it's not
necessary to win every game, as long as you're not getting blown out
every game, lossing isn't the end of the world.

This league was designed for people who wish to play Baseball.
The only requirement is you have to be over 30 years old. Here in CA
the league is excellent. As with all leagues, pitchers and catchers are

league made of old pros, although there are some playing, but rather

Actually, there's a possibility that Hartford and Wistah will be meet,
depending on whether or not the teams make the playoffs. (Similar to
the way we ended up playing Albany and Springfield last fall).

If both, or one team, makes the playoffs, don't expect to see the match.
But if both teams roll snake eyes for the season, it's a possibility.

Nothing against Worcester, but Hartford doesn't like to schedule them,
mainly because playing against Worcester will not raise Hartford's level
of play. And in the fall, with the league schedule, there are not
that many open slots to schedule non-league teams.

We are playing the Chicago Lions and the Chicago Blaze on Labor Day
weekend, and Philly Whitemarsh at some point also.... Those clubs will
raise the Wanderers level of play.....

The attached announcement is from Jim Carron, DEC Basketball League-

Jim or me (Joe Garbarino, 232-2250, FDCV07::GARBARINO).

The league has consisted of an A and B division, but there is some

Joe

Subject: C division...old-timers division..whatever

 Please distribute all over!!!

It seems as so there will be fewer teams in the hoop league this year
so starting a C division may be difficult. If there are any teams or even just
individuals that might be interested in starting a division that would be sole-
ly for exercise, please send me mail.
I envision a division for players maybe 35 or 40 and older that just
wish to use their hour and 45 minute time slot to "casually" play the game of
basketball. A division where rules governing such "casual" play could be de-
fined by players within that division. I do expect that those players would pay
the same amount of dues as players in divisions A and B. Those teams would be
intertwined throughout the schedule and play once a week, September through
March. Dues are expected to be in the range of $70/person.
It would be necessary to have at least 4 teams, which would be approx-
imately 28 individuals (even if we have to form teams from the interested par-
ties list.) Please get back to me ASAP, if you are interested.
