    So many questions...

    In the monitor topic I mentioned that I had just replaced
    the old 12" color monitor on our school's LC with a refurbed
    14" MultiScan..and that it appears I need to use an adapter.

    I'm now also realizing that I probably need to upgrade the
    video memory from 256K to 512K to continue to get 256 colors....

    I can find the 512K Simm advertized in MacZone (for example)...
    here's my question (I'm being REAL cheap here)

    could i use a 1MB 30pin Simm for this?  Is the 512MB Simm just
    a normal 30pin Simm?

    hm...maybe I've answered my own question...I've got a dead
    LCII here and the video ram in that looks like a different pin
    pitch than either then 30 or 64 pin simms.

    this one actually may be 512K..not sure.  but the machine was hit
    by lightening and donated to the school for parts, and so far
    I have not found a single working part in it.

    The VRAM SIMM is definitely not the same as a DRAM SIMM.  You cannot

    I pulled the VRAM Simm from the 'struck by lightening' machine
    and tried it out...it worked and was indeed 512K.  So saved
    the school $18 (chip merchant price).

    After putting in the new Simm, the new monitor could achieve 256 colors
    (only 16 without it).  I found one interesting problem....

    Everything worked okay except the KidPix application....KidPix complained
    that there was not enough memory was available to run KidPix.  There was
    plenty of memory on the system and nothing had changed..except that with
    the larger monitor size, KidPix was demanding more memory.  In the GetInfo
    box, the suggested size had increased to be more than the 'minimum'
    (which was plenty before the change).

    I looked at several other appications, and no other ones seemed affected
    by increasing the monitor size.
