    Hullo,

    it's 'me again' ;')

Still with the old Mac 512 with 2 Mb RAM, external 40Mb SCSI HDD and
(the problem child) Apple ImageWriter ('I' I guess).

The symptoms - when ever I try to print - any program - the printer
doesn't. Sometimes the print head will move back and for - but no pins
strike the ribbon to leave an impression. Once, and only once today
    (Sunday) it worked properly!

The printer self-test - power on while holding the FormFeed - works
    fine.

Often, though not always, the program will recieve a message back and
ask me to check the 'select' and click 'ok' - which I do (the select
led is 'on' all the time).

I had a broken pin one on the 25 pin adaptor at the printer end, so I
replaced the end with new pins, being careful to 'get it right' (had to
pull one pin out 'cause I 'got it wrong' ;') So I am pretty sure that
    the cable is right.

I have 'reinstalled' the Imagewriter file(s) from the System disks into
the System Folder - and restarted, with no success.

As I said, this is a Mac512 with 2Mb RAM, with System 6.0.7. The last
time I had this beastie, over 12 months ago, it worked fine.

My (not too) educated guess is that there may be a problem in the
printer itself, because everything else seems to work fine.

Any thoughts, hints, suggestions? Or should I get myself another
    printer?

My Mac experience is limited (as Mario H knows too well ;') - so please
    be gentle ;')

    advTHANKSance,

    Harry
