78.0. "Which AXP devices are supported?" by BLG01::SALVATORELLI () Mon May 31 1993 18:02

    Hi everybody,

I would like to ask some questions related to the POLYCENTER Console
    Manager product.

We are considering the opportunity to offer the CM product to a
customer who wants to have remote console capabilities on an
    ULTRIX workstation (DECstation 5000/240).
They have a TCP/IP network with some ULTRIX workstations and a
couple of AXP, OSF/1 systems (we still have to decide which AXP
    systems to offer them).
So I would like to know which AXP systems does the CM product
    support.

What type of connection is needed between the ULTRIX Workstation and
    the devices managed?

Finally, when will V1.1 be available?

    Thanks
    		Marilena

Marilena,

We do not explicitly support a particular systems console, however,
if it conforms to the connection rules (RS-232, EIA etc) then we will
support it. Be aware that some systems (notably the DECstation 5000
series) satisfy the connection criteria, however, a feature of the UWS
software (The X-Server) will not allow the console to be redirected
from the graphics screen to the serial console port (This is fixable,
but engineering do not have the resources to do it).

You can choose your connection between the ULTRIX workstation (Console
Manager Host)and the managed consoles from the supported list of Direct
(Hardwired) LAT or TELNET. (see the SPD.)

You need to speak to our Product Marketing Manager (Laura Horn
(HYEND::LHORN) about future release dates for the product).

Cheers,
Phil
