861.0. "Unable to open console" by YUPPY::BAKERP () Tue Jul 11 1995 22:02

Does anyone have any suggestions on the following problem a customer
is having with console connections? Please note that this is the
customer's description of what is happening.

    Thanks for any help,

    Paul Baker.

We encountered (quite frequently) occasions where the system icons on
the PCM flat map was "grayed-out".

The error message on ENS is ...

      <sys name> <time stmp> Unable to open console for system <sys name>
                             - %SYSTEM-F-ABORT, abort

and on the flat map we have a msg on the status box ...

      CMgr Console NOT found

What I have done so far...

. Log out the ports on Terminal Server - sometimes it helps. shutdown
PCM (either SHUTDOWN fr menu, or CONSOLE SHUTDOWN fr DCL)
and restart again - normally it works

But today things didn't worked out well until I did a reboot (in fact I
perform an AUTOGEN and reboot the PCM machine).

Wonder if you could advice on the possible cause of the problem ?

We have 27 systems defined on PCM, 4 of them were DISABLED, and the
    rest connected and ENABLED.

    Paul,

Which version of PCM is the customer running? There was a new
v1.6 release just a few weeks ago. If they are not runing this version,
then the best bet is get the customer to install the new kit and see if
    the problem persists.

Also, are the 4 systems on the same terminal server?

Paul,
V1.5 did have a problem where PCM did not drop the line
correctly when closed (On LAT). The fix for this is in V1.6,
so I do suggest that the customer tries it.

Cheers Simon...

They are running V1.5-006. Upgrading is on the agenda but will not
happen for a while as it has to go through testing etc. before it is
    installed.

Why do you ask how many systems are on the same terminal server? If this
is likely to be a problem please let me know. Meanwhile I will find
out how they have configured the systems.

    Thanks for your help,

    Paul.
