742.0. "Event has no defined text string?" by HTSC19::KENNETH (Hong Kong MCS, Software Support) Thu May 18 1995 14:11

Hi,

A customer has just upgrade (install) PCM V1.5a from VCS V1.4.
When he run Console Startup or Console Edit -- Verify, four simular message
display:

event "active" has no defined text string
event "linerr" has no defined text string
event "idle" has no defined text string
event "offlin" has no defined text string

This customer has already perform the conversion, CONSOLE$VCS_CONVERT.

I check that, these event are in the SCAN$EVENT scan profile from my
VCS V1.4 system and are VCS reserved events, all these event are really have
no defined console text string.

I would like to know is there anyone encounter the problem before, or
anyone knows why?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Kenneth,
this is an error in the conversion Utility. The four event
you are seeing are the internal events from VCS which had no text
strings. Really these should not be converted, but we missed it.

The best thing to do to get round it is to go into the editor and
delete those events. Doing this will cause no problem for PCM.

Cheers Simon...

And you must also remove them from the _SCAN$VCSEVENTS profile and then
deleted tah profile followed by removing all references to the
_SCAN$VCSEVENTS in any of the other profiles. I recommend you export
the database and edit the resulting port file. It takes a lost less
    time.
