2508.0. "Busted ptb submission - help!" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Fri Aug 23 1996 20:55

Subj: Busted ptb submission - help!

In the process of submitting ptbos-21-neth, I noticed that I did
a merge incorrectly and decided to abort the submission.

bsubmit asked me if I wanted to preserve or clear the state and
I chose 'clear'. It told me nothing was held and that I did not
need to use resub.

So I retried the submission, but now I get this:

>> FATAL ERROR in /usr/sde/tools/alpha_UNIX/bin/ode/bsubmit:
>> The file ./kernel/arch/alpha/inst.h is already writeable; merge step aborted
>> FATAL ERROR in /usr/sde/tools/alpha_UNIX/bin/ode/bsubmit:
>> The file ./usr/ccs/bin/as/alphadcls.h is already writeable; merge step
aborted
[...]

And indeed, bstat -wall says those files are writeable. But I cannot
bci any of those files, it fails with:

csh> bci as0main.p

[ ./usr/ccs/bin/as/as0main.p ]
[ scanning for HISTORY messages ]
[ found <<<replace with log message ...>>> marker ]

Command? (type "help" for a list) [log]
Command? (type "help" for a list) [check-in]
ci error: no lock set by Craig_Neth for revision 4.2.16.3

Help!

Craig

Good Morning Seattle,

Could one of you pick this one up as it is a priority for today's build?

Thanks,
Tom - 381-0373 - I'm here today, but can't help Craig myself.

Hi Craig,

The problem here is that because you bailed out, you're a little out of sync,
but it should be recoverable. You can't check in the files because you haven't
got them checked out. You can't submit because the files got left in a
writeable state. If they are OK as is, then just do a chmod 444 on the files
in your sandbox and then try submitting. If that still doesn't work. bco and
then bci them one more time and then submit. If you still need to fix merge
work, this may be the best course anyway.

Thanks Grant! The chmod has got me back on track.

Next question: So who do I send the bug report to on bsubmit?
It told me nothing had been done and that I all needed to do was
retry the submission, but then it left me in a bad state, one that
wasn't obvious to me how to get out of...

Thanks again,

Craig

Craig, please use either the "send_pr" command (which will have you edit
a form and then mail it) or the web interface, available via the help pages
in our rengweb, or just go to:
	http://nsa.zk3.dec.com/ode/ODE-Bugtrack.html
and click WWW interface.

Please provide as much detail as you can.
