Subj: Are we having network or ODE problems this afternoon?

It could be both. I have been having intermittent problems accessing things
during the day, including NFS retries and long responses to access notes
conferences, some of which time out completely.

Now I've got a much more serious problem that is affecting my work. I am s
simply attempting to do a make in my sandbox, backed against ptcde.nightly.
My sandbox is mounted on quarry, and I'm currently composing this message
from quarry, so for once, I don't think that quarry is the culprit. But
when my make attempts to do a gencat it freezes solid. This has not been
happening, at least up until 14:12, which is when I saved the file I was
updating and attempted the make.

I just terminated the make and restarted it. Sure enough, it is gencat
that it is hanging up on. Has something changed with gencat, or are there
problems on the system where gencat gets called?

Please investigate and let me know ASAP. I cannot test anything I change
without gencat working from my Makefile.

Thanks,
Brian

This is a network or file server problem. What backing tree are you building
against?

======
I'm backing against ptcde.nightly. I think there might have been, and
may yet be, some network problems, but now I don't think that was the
cause of my problem. Gencat was hanging on a syntax error in the
message catalog source file. I personally don't think that should
happen, but it did. When I replaced the source with a previously
working copy, the gencat completed promptly. So I think there is a
problem with the way that gencat works. That's a problem that can be
worked on by whoever maintains gencat.

Thanks,
Brian
