1827.0. "Strange behavior at file merge" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Wed Sep 20 1995 13:32

Subj: Strange behavior at file merge

Hi ODE-helper,

I was submitting about 20 or so manpages
yesterday with bsubmit -all and I ran into
a merge problem.

At the end of the bsubmit -all command, ODE
reported that I needed to merge 7 manpages.
I made a mistake merging the first one and
aborted the bsubmit. I then did a bsubmit
for just that manpage and the merge went
fine.

Having failed to keep a list of the other files
I needed to merge, I again issued the bsubmit -all
command. The command ended differently such that
I wasn't immediately given the opportunity to merge
the other 6 manpages.

So, I tried bsubmitting them individually. When I
try that, bsubmit tells me that it can't submit
the file because a writeable copy is available.
If I made the manpage readonly (chmod 444), it
bsubmits fine, but ODE tells me I don't need to
merge the manpage!

I'm afraid that I am losing someone else's edits
to these manpages and would like someone well
versed in ODE to take a look at my situation
and see what (if anything) I need to do.

Joyce Demers helped me some yesterday, but she is out
on today.

thanx for any help,
Gayle

I have upgraded to Platinum EFT this morning and I sometimes get the
following error when I do a workon:

| [badlands] $ r work
| workon -sb pthread
| cd'ing to sandbox source directory: /sandboxes/orourke/pthread/src.
| starting new shell: /bin/ksh.
| To access your ODE server you must:
|
| o kinit $PRINCIPAL (then input your kerberos password)
|
| o Enter workon -sb sandbox name or default.
|
| Please obtain kerberos ticket and try again.
|
| Check: environment $BCSPORT, and ode_server daemon @ secret.zk3.dec.com
| Please exit workon, do a kinit and enter workon.

Since this is the second time that I've gotten this message, I had just
done a kinit about 20 minutes ago. See klist info:

| [badlands:pthread] $ klist
| Ticket file: /var/dss/kerberos/tkt/tkt5118
| Principal: Patrick_ORourke@ZONE
|
| Issued Expires Principal
| Oct 19 14:00:38 Oct 20 00:00:38 krbtgt.ZONE@ZONE
| Oct 19 14:00:52 Oct 20 00:00:52 kxct.secret@ZONE
| Oct 19 14:00:53 Oct 20 00:00:53 kxct.buffer@ZONE

If I do a kdestroy and then a kinit, the problem does not happen again.
I have never seen this in the past and was wondering if someone could
shed some light as to what is wrong.

Thanks,

Pat

Pat,

Please exit and re-enter your workon - if your /usr/sde mount changed
or if the ode server was restarted since you entered your workon, the
workon session must be re-authenticated. Getting a new ticket has
no effect on a running workon process; you must exit and do workon
again.

If you still have problems then send mail to odehelp again.
