Status: R

Hi Josh,

I gather you'll be interested in hearing about the ode commands not working
on the ptos.nightly system (last Thursday night's) that I BOSed onto my
Sandpiper+ "freelance":

freelance 4> kinit John_P_Williams
NFS3 RFS3_READ failed for server quarry : RPC: Server can't decode arguments
NFS3 RFS3_READ failed for server quarry : RPC: Server can't decode arguments
Bus error (core dumped)
freelance 5> workon -sb pt_submit
NFS3 RFS3_READ failed for server quarry : RPC: Server can't decode arguments
NFS3 RFS3_READ failed for server quarry : RPC: Server can't decode arguments
Bus error (core dumped)
freelance 6>

Is this a problem, or did I maybe set it up wrong?

	john

John:

I should have gotten back to you. An hour after I answered you,
Shashi dropped in with the identical question. Apparently this is
a new bug introduced in a blown HW merge involving nfs_subr.c.

More details are in this QAR:

36985 OP S No FRAN SECURITY M AJU 29-AUG-1995
MERGE TO NFS_SUBR.C (1.1.42.23) BREAKS NFS COPY

Is there a fix forthcoming for this? It is blocking users from doing
BOS'es and from running ODE commands on the nightly builds.

I'm not sure - Aju opened a QAR and assigned it to Fran Fadden, but he may
not be in today. I guess it's not immediately obvious why using the
previous revision of nfs_subr.c seems to work.

Although backing out the changes to nfs_subr.c fixes the problem,
it is a part of ptos-2801-fran -- which involves 4 other files. Maybe it
is safe, but someone from security may be able to shed more light.
The fix was for 36529, to fix an acl lock race condition.
