1736.0. "ODE 3.0 kinit procedures - please provide clarification" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Mon Aug 21 1995 13:45

[Tina] This might best be addressed to the ODE team in seattle. If a design
decision was made without enough consideration for the way people do work
here, we'll need to address this. Tina, could you ensure a response to this,
given Josh's absence this week.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Josh is on vacation. Is there anyone else who can respond to this?

Josh,

RE:
kinit must now be done BEFORE a workon (only required for
source control, not for just doing builds) but once in the
workon your ticket will never expire.

>>> I took this to mean that I needed a ticket to do check in/out
and bsubmit, but that I did not need a ticket to do a workon and
do a build. I just discovered that I can't even do a workon without
a ticket. I am not too happy about that idea.

This is ok on my workstation (where I do all check in/out and bsubmits),
because I have kerberos setup. HOWEVER, I do builds all over the place
on many different machines. I don't want the extra hassle of kerberos
on every machine I want to build on.

Please cleaify the above statement. Did I misunderstand it? Here is the
error I get:

dino.zk3.dec.com> workon -sb pntoy
cd'ing to sandbox source directory: /usr/osf1/sb2/pntoy/src.
starting new shell: /bin/csh.
To access your ODE server you must:

o kinit $PRINCIPAL (then input your kerberos password)

o Enter workon -sb sandbox name or default.

Please obtain kerberos ticket and try again.

Check: environment $BCSPORT, and ode_server daemon @ secret.zk3.dec.com
Please exit workon, do a kinit and enter workon.

>>> What does "Check: environment $BCSPORT...." mean?

Fred

This is NOT a problem. Fred is correct in that you do need a ticket to do
bco/bci/bsubmit work as always, but you are prompted for this when you enter
your workon, because once in the workon session you may do this work without a
time limit as long as you stay in the workon. HOWEVER, just because you see
that message doesn't mean you are NOT in a workon. Try it without getting a
ticket first and then check the value of $WORKON. You'll see that you really
are in a workon session, you just can't do RCS work. The message is just a
reminder that you didn't get a ticket yet. Perhaps it could be clarified.

If you just want to build and don't want to see the message, then you need to
pass the -nk flag when entering the workon:

workon -nk -sb <sandbox>
