1331.0. "DEC OSF/1 cde pools locked ( os was temporarily out of order too)" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Mon Mar 13 1995 14:52

Digital UNIX developers,

We have experienced a full DECode-II RCS disk over the weekend (as a
result of an unusually large submission into ptcde which grew the rcs
pool more than was expected). This affected ALL 'os' and 'cde' pools.
Other 'x' pools were unaffected.

This disk now has about 10 MB of "breathing space" so 'os' developers
should be able to proceed with work.

The 'cde' rcs pool shared a disk with the 'os' rcs pool - this will no
longer be the case. We are in the process of moving the cde 'rcs' pool
to its own disk. In the meantime, all cde activity is locked.

Please send any questions to reng@zk3.dec.com. Thank you very much.

Perhaps it's time to purge some of the old RCS revs or branches. Some
of those ,v files must be getting monstrous!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked into this and have purged some of
the branches on the bigger offending files (binary .a's for example), but
the only thing that can be purged are private branches people have
inadvertently left behind. We can't purge product branches or we lose
the ability to recreate the past. Also, with 50,000+ files in the pools,
nothing manually intensive could be done; it must be automateable.

It is worth looking into more, however; thanks...
