1318.0. "Can t mount ptlitex.nightly" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Wed Mar 08 1995 17:27

When I try to odemount ptlitex.nightly I get the following:

$ whoami
root
$ odemount ptlitex.nightly
Error: Can't create directory /share/kgb/build/ptlitex.dsk6 as mount point for p
roject ptlitex.nightly:.
$ ls -ld /share/kgb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  8 13:06 /share/kgb@

This has happened fairly often in the past with other backing trees. People
in my group that don't use automount don't run into this problem. Rebooting
fixes the problem, but constantly having to reboot my machine is really
beginning to interfere with my work. Is there a way to make ODE work with
automount?  Thanks for any help.

Rich

P.S. I tried to kill off the automount process and then rerun it with the
     same parameters as the original, but my system just hangs if I do this.

If you run automount, you shouldn't need to odemount things. They should
all be mounted already. When you kill the automount daemon, make sure you
use kill -TERM.

Interesting. If I check out /share I see the following:

$ ls -lF
total 14
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  7 13:41 agent@
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Mar  7 13:41 bsdbld/
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  8 12:57 cache@

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  7 13:41 comet@
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  7 13:41 covert@
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  7 13:41 decipher@

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  7 13:41 lynx@
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        20 Mar  8 12:57 mole@

dr-xr-xr-x   2 root     system       512 Jan 18 09:51 xor/

So something must happen to cause only some of them to be odemounted
automatically. The ones that aren't (the ones with @ after them) are
the ones that cause problems. And the total that ls reports is 14,
I don't know where it came up with that.

So I killed automount with -TERM (I wasn't doing that before, which is why
I must have had trouble then) and restarted it. Now I get:

$ ls -lF
total 22
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 agent/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Mar  7 13:41 bsdbld/

dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 lynx/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 mole/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 nsa/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 page/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 pointer/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 secret/
drwxr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Dec 29 13:31 xert/
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     system       512 Feb 27 16:13 xfbi/
dr-xr-xr-x   2 root     system       512 Jan 18 09:51 xor/

Total is 22, and now everything works fine! So I can't explain why it keeps
breaking, but at least I know how to fix it now. Thanks!
