750.0. "Two sided pages." by HYMM::WOODALL (I Think ICON, I Think ICON) Tue Aug 04 1987 21:48

If there a way in DOCUMENT to force a blank page (perhaps with a
page number) to be printed when a chapter ends on an odd page?
    (like \cleardoublepage in LaTeX.)

This would allow the document to be removed from the printer and
duplicated two sided without the insertion of blank pages by hand.

Secondly, is there any document style that alternates left and
right page margins to allow punched paper to be used?

    Thanks,

    David.

(If these are addressed elsewhere in this conference or in the
documentation, Please provide pointers. I've looked and cannot find
    any help.)

These features do not currently exist. They have been discussed
elsewhere in this conference (somewhere) as additions to the wishlist
    for the "next" version.

Such features are high-priority for the FOCUS Demand Printing project.
They have been hacking up a workaround for PostScript output as
part of their pilot project, so we know these things are easy to
do on the output side. Somewhat tricker is figuring out all the
desirable combinations and the "generic" ways of expressing those.

Topic 309.* contains a short discussion of this topic.

    re: alternating left/right margin widths

How about some ideas to work around this problem...?

For documents that aren't being typeset and "sent to the print shop,"
what methods are people using to line up the front/back pages?

I'm looking for either manual procedures or other "hacks." Surely
there's many users out there who use LN03 output and a two-sided
copier to produce their final drafts...

    Regards,
    Rob Aldridge

    re: alternating left/right margin widths

I don't have any ideas on alterations you can make while processing
your file, but I have had luck with a fancy feature on our big copier.
Our Xerox 1090 has an "image shift" feature, which allows you to
request that left-hand pages of 2-sided copies be shifted 1/10"
    - 8/10" from the right side of the page. I still have to insert
necessary blank pages in certain places, but it makes life a lot
easier when copying my review drafts.
