1175.0. "PC TCP/IP access to RdB" by ODIXIE::STUMPF (Jacksonville, FL Navy Team 350-4927) Fri Jul 31 1992 00:15

Can anyone recommend a PC product for a front to RdB that uses the
TCP/IP transport? The customer would like to use a DECreport/DECquery
like product to access RdB but I believe those products are DECnet
    only. Is that true?

Perhaps the DEC ACCESSWORKS might help integrate this environment?

    thanks,
    ken

If a better forum exists for "selling" questions, point me in the right
    direction.

I have a customer configuration question. The customer wants to
consolidate multiple databases into one corporate standard database,
RdB. I need to tell them how to integrate and configure the logical
    design of the client/server model.

    Here is the situation:

East Coast VAX 6610 with RdB. They have important clients on the West
coast with networked PCs. The wide area network in between is TCP/IP.
They would like to use a PC front for database reads and writes and report
generation. Actually, they would like to develop a Rally application to
communicate with the East coast VAX. The TCP/IP seems to the tricky part,
as for everything else, is pretty much off the shelf sotfware. Any
    suggustions?

with rdb 4.1, sql/services supports the tcp/ip stack. We have "program"
announced that we will also support Novell in the future.

Will DECreport and DECquery work over Pathworks TCP/IP? If not, can
you suggest a good front end for PC access for TCP/IP to RdB V4.1 with
    SQL/services?

does the PC have to use the Pathworks kit? a customer who has OS/2 and
TCP/IP from IBM doesn't want to purchase Pathworks to replace what
    he's already purchased
