502.0. "Britton-Lee to Rdb?" by LARVAE::BURGESS (volvo driver) Wed Nov 22 1989 19:06

Has anybody experience in converting a Britton-Lee database
into Rdb?

Is there another Notes-Conference discussing this issue?

I have an opportunity for a large VAXcluster dbase.

I understand that Sybase has some Britton-Lee Heritage - does
anybody know what this is?

Why did Britton-Lee change its name to SHAREBASE?

    Remember that the only toolset for Britton-Lee is OmniBase from
    SMARTSTAR. The applications written for Britton-Lee should port to Rdb
    with few changes. You might check with SmartStar on the viability of
    moving the database schema and data as well via SmartStar utilities.

    Sybase's creators came from Britton-Lee. I don't think Sybase is very
    similar to Britton-Lee except that Sybase could be called a virtual
    database machine (that's what the Sybase people like to call it).

    They probably changed their name to emphasize data sharing thereby
    changing their image, and/or because of the departure of both Mr.
    Britton and Mr. Lee.
