401.0. "Accent Mark Not Showing on Bookreader" by REGENT::WHALEN () Fri Jan 25 1991 13:23

I'm writing a programming supplement for our PostScript
printers. In the .sdml file, I've used the following
DOCUMENT tag and keyword to show the grave accent mark:
<accent>(grave). This mark prints on the paper version
of the document but does not appear on the screen in the
    bookreader version of the document.

I've also tried the following DOCUMENT coding technique:
    <delayed><accent>(grave)<enddelayed>. This does not show
    the accent mark either.

Could someone show me the solution to this? I have to get
the book to production on 29 January.

    Thanks

The ACUTE ,GRAVE, UMLAUT accent marks are not part of the ISOLatin
character set which is the one used by the Bookreader. The reason you
get it in PS output is that PS fonts have composite characters and the
converter knows where the accent characters are that are used to make the
    composite characters.

From V2.0 Release Notes, "Known Problems and Restrictions":

"Arguments to <ACCENT> ignored in Bookreader

"The arguments to the <ACCENT> tag -- umlaut, grave, and acute --
have no effect in online books."

These characters are not available in the DECwindows screen fonts; thus,
they cannot be displayed by the Bookreader.
