321.0. "Error writing to output file" by IOSG::EDMONDSON (Ro) Mon Apr 23 1990 19:58

I'm new to this game, so apologies if this is really obvious pilot
error, or if this has been covered before...

I'm trying to build an online version of an existing book. The book
was originally coded for DSRPLUS, and has been converted to DOCUMENT.
I can build a postscript version (CUP_HANDBOOK) with no problems (other
than the usual line too long/short stuff), but have so far not succeeeded in
building a bookreader version. The log gives me no clues, as there are
again no errors apart from lines too long/short, and a couple of page
too short messages (could this be the trouble?). The only other
strange thing I noticed was that the final "I give up" message gave no
    file extension.

Can someone please give me some clues as to what's going wrong?

    Thanks,
    Rowena

Thanks. I had assumed that the .lis and .log files would be the
    same...

The problem turned out to be a reference to a subsection in the
    preface.

That's interesting. Could you post the preface with the subsection in
it and the coding for the <reference> tag? I dont see why that should
cause problems (and indeed the tag translator wasn't unhappy about
things) so this may be a bug.

    Thanks,

thanks, but Wayne Grant interpreted my log file for me and I was
able to see my error. I had changed some long informal examples
into formal examples. THe previous writer had coded these long
examples using the <online_popup> tag. The combination of the
<example> tag and the <online_popup> tags seem to have broke my
    build.
