205.0. "problem with <ONLINE_POPUP> tag" by CHEST::ALFORD (Ice to see you.....) Fri Oct 06 1989 15:23

Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I get the following errors
right at the end of the compile, they appear to be directly related to the
<ONLINE_POPUP> tags as without them, the document compiles clean.

Have I missed something out ?

I have tried removing parameter 2 on the <figure> and making the parameter
on the <online_popup> tag unique. Neither make the situation any better.

I have used the <online_popup> tag on 21 figures, all within <APPENDIX> tags,
all using the same format.

Any hints please ?

Jane.

Yes, they are related to the <online_popup> tags. Check your coding:
is each <online_popup> terminated with <endonline_popup>? are you
using <online_popup>s within formal elements? If everything seems
coded correctly, send me a segment of your files (preferably a
short one) that reproduces the problem.

205.2popups won't popMARVIN::KNOWLESDotting jots and crossing tittlesTue Jun 18 1991 08:3076
Here's another one. This is part of a big book that built
successfully in a previous draft - popups and all. That
build used the doctype ONLINE.HANDBOOK. The only change
I've made is to change the doctype to CUP.ONLINE, and
now the popups won't pop up (the text is there, but in
line with the text in the topic window).

In desperation (this has to be on the next OLD disc) I
reverted to ONLINE.HANDBOOK; still, no luck. My guess
is that either I'm doing something very silly and can't
see what, or my System Manager has tweaked something
without telling anyone. If he has, has anyone any idea
which parameter I should ask him about?

I append a small test file and its log.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Bob

I can't reproduce the problem on our 1.2B system (but we don't have
the CUP doctypes installed, so I don't have the same environment
you do). Were the CUP doctypes installed between the time that you
had a successful build with ONLINE.HANDBOOK and the time you tried
CUP.ONLINE (and, in desperation, ONLINE.HANDBOOK again)? What I'm
getting at is that perhaps the installation of the CUP doctypes
trashed something? If so, try de-assigning DOC$LOCAL_FORMATS and
trying ONLINE.HANDBOOK again. Try that anyway (maybe someone did
tweak something in the local stuff...).

Thank you, Mary - you put your finger on the trouble. I built my
test file on a system that didn't have the CUP doctypes installed,
    and it worked fine.

Of course, my troubles are a long way from over; but at least I
know what to blame! I can either regress to ONLINE.HANDBOOK or
    progress to V2.0.

I copied out your test file, ran it on our V1.2B system using the CUP.ONLINE
doctype and could not reproduce the problem here. The popup worked fine.
205.6Yes - CUP.ONLINE's fine, MARVIN's 1.2B is notMARVIN::KNOWLESDotting jots and crossing tittlesFri Jun 21 1991 06:137
Yes indeed. I wan't (in .4) suggesting that there was anything wrong
with CUP.ONLINE, but only with pop-ups (and, I've since found,
<set_online_topic>(master)) when built with 1.2B (in any docstyle)
since the CUP doctypes were installed _on_my_system_. Thanks for
the confirmation of what Mary suspected.
