189.0. "LN03$Q2 going soon" by NECK::THOMPSON () Thu Oct 27 1988 16:52

    Brethren (and Sistren),

    	With much sadness in my heart I have to announce the forthcoming
    departure of the LN03 printer queue known as LN03$Q2.

    	This queue, which started life in Acrid Road as a mere desk top
    slave to a VT220 has performed valiantly in the service of all the ADG
    clusters (and others once the ethernet address was leaked!) will
    shortly cease to be. During it's short but busy life it has produced
    over 180,000 pages of assorted pulp for the benefit of mankind and to
    the detriment of trees. A tribute both to Japanese reliabilty and the
    paperless office (Well where *have* all those pages gone to?).

    	I'm sure you will all join me in wishing it a safe journey and a
    comfortable retirement in its new home in B-Block.

    	And before you ask, the answer is "soon".

189.4What about the documentationLEG::GURRANSpontaneity needs PracticeFri Nov 04 1988 20:425
	I'm probably wrong, but isn't LN03$Q2 the default printer for
	DOCUMENT?

	If it isn't then ignore these ramblings, but if it is has an
	alternative printer been assigned ?
189.5Good point!!ELBOW::DRAPERSteve DraperMon Nov 07 1988 09:107
You're right, Martin - LN03$Q2 is the default device for Document LN03 output.

Unfortunately, operational requirements have meant that we have had to
remove this printer. Anybody have any good ideas as to where we could redirect
the output to? One suggestion might be the ANSI queue of the LPS40.

189.6ASSIGN/MERGE, a temporary fix?FOOT::THOMPSONTue Nov 08 1988 13:0715
    The definition of LN03$Q2 as the default destination for output
    from document is made during the installation of document itself.
    And as yet, I havn't found a way to redirect the output from
    document to ansi_eye instead.

    Unless anyone's got any better ideas, I suggest we merge LN03$Q2
    into ANSI_EYE and wait until the next upgrade of document when
    LN03$Q2 can finally bite the dust.

    This way you can still print by default to a queue called LN03$Q2
    but the output will appear on the LPS40 queue ANSI_EYE. Alternatively
    you could DOCUMENT/NOPRINT and then PRINT the output file to your
    local LN03 queue as a separate instruction (e.g. A2C$LN03).

	Yes, providing you don't want any switches on the queue. Document V1.0
	has problems parsing multiple brackets.

    	The printer has been relocated in B-Block. It will be called
    B2D$LN03 and Margaret Williams has been volunteered as its Godmother.
189.11Let the LAN take the strainNECK::THOMPSONTue Nov 15 1988 14:5813
    There is still a substantial volume of printout appearing in the LN03$Q2
    queue. Obviously the suggestions in this notes topic are not ideal.
    So for those of you still left wondering where your printout is
    disappearing to, LN03$Q2 (the queue name) will be redefined so that it
    chucks everything at PRINTER A. This is the one nearest to the printer
    room.

    But please note, this will only be the case until ADG's DOCUMENT is
    upgraded to V1.1 which may not be that long now.

    Since this printer already gets a hammering from technical writers it
    would be appreciated if only small jobs are sent to this queue.

	Whoooooopeeeeee....

	Does that mean FUTURS as well ??
189.13200 block limitYARD::THOMPSONThu Nov 17 1988 15:538
    Re .12
    See note 193 to see what will be installed on FUTURS when it's upgraded
    to VMS V5.0-2

    Re .11
    LN03$Q2 on FOOT now has a block limit of 200 imposed upon it. So
    if your print file is bigger than 200 blocks and you queue it to
    LN03$Q2 it will wait, and wait, and wait.....
