127.0. "LPS40" by FOOT::TAYLOR () Tue Mar 22 1988 14:54

    Is there a date yet for when we can expect the LPS40 to be up and
    running once again, it's been almost a week now!

    The new part for the LPS40 has been fitted and it appears from the
    large wodge of A4 paper spewed out that the backlog of print
    jobs from the last week has been processed.

    Well, it just goes to show how the skills of the engineers are
    dropping. When I was there, we didn't have to resort to blood
    sacrifices, judicious use of the prayer mat was usually sufficient!

    Mind you, the odd whack with the quarter mallet used to work wonders
    too!

    	If we sacrifice enough goats would it be possible for a
    SHOW QUE LPS40$EYE to show if the printserver(grovel grovel) had
    run out of paper or if there was an error on the LPS40$EYE?

127.5Use /NOTIFYTHROAT::CLARKASC, a mad ScotThu Jun 02 1988 16:267
    If you use PRINT/NOTIFY, the LPS40 will send you messages when your
    job is printing; it will tell you when it starts and finishes, when
    the paper tray is empty, when the paper has jammed, etc. That way
    you will know when to toddle along to the printer and clear your
    own jams ;-)

    Hi Pete,

	I can perhaps help with this problem??....:-)

	VMS thinks that 'TIFY' means tea & muffins (1930's vintage) which
	if you relate to 193... movies (BBC repeats!!!) means that the
	Butler (VMS Systems Services requests) will tell you when it is
	time for 'TIFY'.

	As VMS was developed under Americaneese, the translation got slightly
	out of context, and in fact reversed.Consequently VMS system trans-
	lation of NO_TIFY, means "tell the buggers that I have a message"

	BTW. Notify switch needs 4 characters (NOTI) to escape the 'parse'
	otherwise the butler does sulk, and gives a wondeful meaningless
	message...  :-)   :-)

    That's all right by me; I'm not going to clear other peoples paper

    Do you mean to say that if you walk into the print room for youre
    print job and there is a paper jam holding up a job in front of
    yours you just walk out again without bothering to clear the paper
    jam? :-|
