46.0. "Bible Codes - The Signature of God" by PHXSS1::HEISER (Maranatha!) Fri Feb 28 1997 17:45

A group of Jewish rabbis have been running computerized pattern matching
tests on the Torah and Tanakh for several years now. The results have
been so impressive that they have taken their presentations on the road to
show to synagogues. People are so overwhelmed about what they see that
they are convinced this is God's Word. There are also reports of a type of
revival where many are returning to orthodoxy because of this project.

Some Christians have started doing the same thing on the New Testament
and the results are just as astounding. The consistencies and patterns
throughout both testaments are an evidence to me that men did not write
the Bible. 40 different authors over 1500 years are not capable of this
level of coding within the text itself.

The next reply is an excerpt from Grant Jeffries new book "The
Signature of God." I'll also add some of the New Testament info as I
am able. This appears to be one of the current hot topics in the
    Church today.

These scientific conclusions didn't just rock the boat of the scientific
community, they capsized it.

The Mysterious Hebrew Codes
---------------------------
by Grant R. Jeffrey (from his book "The Signature of God")

"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search
out a matter." Proverbs 25:2

Recently, researchers in Israel discovered a staggering phenomena of hidden
codes beneath the Hebrew text of the Old Testament that reveal an astonishing
knowledge of future events and personalities that cannot be explained unless
God inspired the writers to record His precise words. The material is possibly
the most important evidence I will present in the book that will prove to any
unprejudiced observer that the Scriptures are truly inspired by God.

Rabbi Michael Dov Weissmandl, a brilliant Czechoslovakian Jewish scholar in
astronomy, mathematics, and Judaic studies, found an obscure reference in a
book by a 14th-century rabbi known as Rabbeynu Bachayah that described a
pattern on letters encoded within the Torah. This discovery during the years
before World War I inspired Rabbi Weissmandl to begin exploring for other
examples of codes hidden within the Torah. During the war years he found that
he could locate certain meaningful words or phrases, such as hammer and anvil,
if he examined the letters at sequences that were equally spaced in the Hebrew
text. In other words, if he found the first letter of significant word such as
Torah, and then, by skipping forward seven letters he found the second letter
of the word Torah, he continued to skip forward the same number of letters to
see whether or not the complete word Torah was spelled out in the text at
equally spaced intervals. Rabbi Weissmandl described this phenomenon as
"equidistant letter sequences" (ELS). The rabbi was astonished to find that
an incredible number of significant words were hidden in code within the text
of the Torah at equally spaced intervals. These spaced intervals between
significant letters varied from every five letters, every seven letters, and
numerous other intervals. However, once they found a particular word spelled
out at, say every 22nd letter, the balance of the letters from the words in
this group were also spaced at an interval of every 22nd letter.

Initially, Rabbi Weissmandl could not be certain if this phenomenon was truly
significant or whether it was simply due to the great number of possible
combinations of words and phrases that could occur by chance arrangement by
skipping forward various intervals of letters in the Hebrew text. The proof
that this phenomenon was evidence of a supernatural intelligence and design was
confirmed almost forty years later in Israel. The invention of sophisticated
computers and statistical analysis was finally able to analyze the text of the
Bible to prove that these codes could not have been produced by random chance.
Although Rabbi Weissmandl found many coded names by simply manually counting
the letters in the text, he did not record his discoveries in writing.
Fortunately, some of his students did record several examples of his code
discoveries. Over the following decades, students in Israel who had heard
about his research began searching the Torah for themselves to ascertain
whether or not such codes actually existed. Their discoveries ultimately
resulted in the research studies at Hebrew University that have proven the
validity of this research. The introduction of sophisticated high-speed
computers allowed Jewish scholars at Hebrew University to explore the text of
the Torah in ways that previous generations could only dream about.

Equidistant Letter Sequences
----------------------------
A group of dedicated Jewish scholars in Israel, following up on Rabbi
Weissmandl's research, found many additional hidden codes embedded within the
text of the Torah. A paper called Equidistant Letter Sequences in the Book of
Genesis, was published in 1988 in the scholarly Journal of the Royal
Statistical Society. This academic magazine is one of the most prominent
mathematical and scientific journals in the world. The study was completed by
Doron Witztum, Yoav Rosenberg, and Eliyahu Rips at Hebrew University and the
Jerusalem College of Technology. This study has been republished in several
other respected scholarly journals recently, including Bible Review, October
1995, and on the Internet. Their discoveries of complex Hebrew codes that reveal
supernatural and prophetic knowledge about the future is causing tremendous
consternation in the academic community because it challenges the long-held
beliefs of liberal scholars who generally reject verbal inspiration of the
Bible.

This scientific discovery is earth-shaking in its consequences because it
reveals a staggering level of mathematical design and intelligence which could
only have been produced by a supernatural mind, providing unshakable
mathematical proof that the Bible was truly inspired by God. The incredible
data demolishes forever the false claim by liberal scholars and skeptics that
the Bible was written and edited by uninspired men and that it is full of
errors and contradictions. Despite the fact that numerous scholars and
scientists have attempted to challenge the validity of this Torah research, the
evidence has not been refuted.

Every Jot and Tittle
--------------------
Jesus Christ, Himself, affirmed that the actual letters composing the Scriptures
were directly inspired by God and were preserved in their precise order
throughout eternity. "For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass,
one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be
fulfilled" (Matthew 5:18). The English word jot is our translation of the
Greek word iota, the Greek letter i. This iota is the Greek equivalent of the
Hebrew letter yod, which is the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet. The
word tittle is the Greek work keraia, derived from the smallest Hebrew
grammatical symbol. Jesus Christ stated that even the smallest of the letters
and grammatical marks in the original text of the Bible were directly inspired
by God.

This intriguing statement by Jesus about the Scriptures has been confirmed two
thousand years later by means of an intricate analysis of the Hebrew text of
the Bible by mathematicians and computer scientists in Israel. To their total
surprise, these researchers discovered that every single letter of the Torah
fits into a complicated tapestry of staggering mathematical precision. In this
regard we should remember the provocative words found in Proverbs 25:2, "It is
the glory of God to conceal matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a
matter."

This phenomenon of Hebrew codes was placed beneath the text of the Bible
thousands of years ago. However, it has been hidden successfully by God until
our generation. Many of these codes could not have been discovered by manual
examination of the text. The invention of high-speed computers, developed in
the last twenty years, enabled the researchers to examine every possible
combination occurring in any of hundreds of possible intervals (from every
second letter to every 500th letter, for example) throughout the millions of
Hebrew letters in the Old Testament. However, once detected by the computer
program, anyone can personally verify the existence of the code by manually
counting out the letters to see that a particular name is spelled out by
skipping the appropriate number of letters.

The Process of Analyzing the Torah
----------------------------------
Using the ancient Hebrew textus receptus (the Masoretic text) of the Torah, the
scientists began by eliminating the spaces between the Hebrew letters, words,
and sentences throughout the first five books of the Bible. The traditional
Orthodox text was written in this manner-without punctuation marks or spaces
between the letters, word, grammatical marks, or sentences. To demonstrate what
this would be like, let us take a sentence in English and write it out as it
would appear in an ancient Hebrew manuscript.

THEBIBLEWASWRITTENINHEBREWWITHOUTPUNCTUATIONMARKS

To understand this sentence, we break it up with appropriate spaces:

THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN IN HEBREW WITHOUT PUNCTUATION MARKS

There is a curious tradition in the writings of the ancient Jewish sages who
claim that Moses first saw the Hebrew letters of the Torah revealed in his
vision on Mount Sinai as a continuous sequence, without spaces between letters,
composed of letters of black fire appearing upon a background of white fire.
The sages wrote that Moses wrote these divinely revealed letters one-by-one in
the five books of the Law, the Torah, as he recorded God's commands to Israel.

In their initial experiment, reported in their 1988 paper, the scientists
arbitrarily chose three hundred Hebrew work-pairs that were logically related
in meaning, such as hammer and anvil, or tree and leaf, or man and woman. They
asked the computer program to locate any such word pairs in the Genesis text.
Once the computer found the first letters in Hebrew of "hammer," it would look
for the second letter at various intervals or spaces between letters. If the
program couldn't locate the second letter of the target word "Hammer" following
the first letter at a two-space interval, it would then search at a
three-space interval, then a four-space interval, etc. Once it located the
second letter at, say, the twelve-space interval, it would then look for the
third letter at the same twelve-space interval, and so on through the entire
78,064 Hebrew letters in Genesis. The computer also looked for coded words by
checking in reverse order. Since the computer can compute millions of
calculations every second, the scientists could quickly examine every 4th, 5th,
6th, 7th letter, for example. The sophisticated computers could examine every
one of millions of possible combinations to discover encoded words that no
human could ever have found manually, including such words as Hitler, Berlin
and Sadat.

After the program had examined the text for each of the three hundred
word-pairs, the researchers were astonished to realize that every single
word-pair had been located in Genesis in close proximity to each other. As
mathematical statisticians, they were naturally astounded because they knew it
was humanly impossible to construct such an intricate and complicated pattern
beneath a surface text, such as Genesis, which told the history of the Jewish
people. After calculating the probabilities of this phenomenon occurring
randomly by chance alone, they published their calculations in their scientific
journal. The odds against the three hundred word pairs occurring by chance in
the text of Genesis are less than one chance in fifty quadrillion. To express
this number another way, it would look like this: one chance in
50,000,000,000,000,000! Most scientific journals consider an experimental
result significant if it exceeds the probability of one chance in twenty. The
bottom line is that only a supernatural intelligence, far beyond our human
capacity, could have produced the pattern of secretly coded words found in the
Bible.

More Surprises
--------------
As they studied this pattern the scientists discovered that many of the coded
words described future events and personalities in human history, from ancient
times until today. When they looked at the string of Hebrew letters in Genesis
1:1, they counted forward forty-nine letters from the letter , the first
letter (tav) of the Hebrew word Torah and found the second letter in the word.
Skipping forward another forty-nine letters they found the third letter of the
word Torah. Incredibly, the Hebrew word Torah was spelled out using every
fiftieth letter in the text.

To their surprise they found that the opening verse of Exodus, the second book
in the Bible, contained the same word Torah, once again spelled out at the
same fifty-letter intervals beginning with the first appearance of the letter.
However, when they examined the opening verses of the third book of the Bible,
Leviticus, they did not find Torah encoded. However, they did discover the word
God was spelled out when they skipped forward every eighth letter from the first
letter yod that appeared in the book.

Upon examining the initial verses of Numbers and Deuteronomy, the fourth and
fifth books of the Bible, the scientists again found that the word Torah was
encoded. In the Book of Numbers, the word Torah is spelled out in reverse at a
fifty-letter interval. However, to their surprise, while the word Torah was
also found to be spelled out in reverse order in the Book of Deuteronomy, it
appeared at a forty-nine-letter interval beginning with the fifth verse of the
book.

Mathematicians calculated that the odds were more than three million to one
against the word Torah being encoded by chance alone within the opening verses
in the first five books of the Bible. Bible students know that the number
fifty is very significant in Scripture. For example, God commanded Israel to
free their slaves and return family lands that had been pledged to a lender on
the fiftieth Year of Jubilee. In addition, the Bible reveals that Law itself,
the Torah, was presented to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai by God precisely
fifty days after their miraculous Exodus from Egypt.

These coded words are interlaced in intricate patters at evenly spaced intervals
in the text reading both forward and backward. The scientists realized that
these coded letters formed words and associations of such complexity and
design that it is absolutely impossible that the patterns could have occurred
by chance.

It is fascinating to observe that the key word "Eden" is encoded repeatedly
sixteen times within the relatively short Genesis 2:4-10 passage of only 379
Hebrew letters dealing with the Garden of Eden. The odds against sixteen
"Edens" occurring by chance in such a short passage is one chance in ten
thousand. Another fascinating feature of this phenomenon was found, in Genesis
2, which deals with the Garden of Eden. Scientists found twenty-five different
Hebrew names of trees encoded within the text of this one chapter. The laws of
probability indicate that the odds against this occurring are one hundred
thousand to one (Professor Daniel Michelson, Codes in the Torah).

25 Names of Trees encoded in Hebrew in Genesis 2
                               Word Skip
                               wheat 5
                               vine -18
                               grape -6
                               chestnut 44
                               forest -3
                               date 5
                               accacia -3
                               bramble 7
                               cedar -5
                               nut 13
                               fig 14
                               willow -15
                               pomegranate 8
                               aloe 6
                               tamarisk 2
                               oak 17
                               poplar -85
                               cassia 7
                               almond 5
                               mastic -2
                               thorn 5
                               hazel -13
                               olive 3
                               citron -3
                               fir 8

Thousands of detailed and precise patterns and codes such as these were
discovered hidden in the Hebrew text of the ancient Scriptures. Mathematical
and computer statisticians, after exhaustive statistical analysis, concluded
that this patter of coded words could not have occurred by chance nor could a
human writer have purposely produced this phenomenon. Their conclusion is that
only a divine intelligence could have directed Moses to record this precise text
containing such complex codes thousand of years ago.

Other Mysterious Codes Reveal God's Prophetic Foreknowledge
-----------------------------------------------------------
The scientists discovered that some of the words coded in the text of the Torah
concerned events and personalities that occurred thousands of years after
Moses wrote the text. Naturally, many academics rejected out of hand the
possibility that this phenomenon could be real. However, despite many attempts,
no one could refute the data. They recently discovered a pair of words -
"Zedekiah", the last king of Judah in 587 B.C., when Jeremiah was a prophet,
and "Matanya", which was king Zedekiah's original name before he ascended the
throne (2 Kings 24:17). Incredibly, they also found the word "Hanukkah",
which refers to the festival of lighting the Menorah that commemorates the
rededication of the Temple after it was recaptured from Antiochus IV Epiphanes
in 165 B.C. The word "Hanukkah" appears near the word "Hasmoneans" which is
the famous name of the family of warriors led by Judias Maccabee, the Jewish
general who defeated the Syrian armies of King Antiochus IV Epiphanes. How
could the writer of Genesis have known about King Zedekiah and the Festival of
Hanukkah when the Book of Genesis was written centuries before they occurred?

Egyptian President Anwar Sadat
------------------------------
Possibly the most astonishing of the phenomena recently discovered involves
codes that reveal events that occurred in our generation. As one example, the
name of the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat occurred together with the
name of the leader of the Moslem Brotherhood assassination team that killed
him. The same code sequence also contained the year of his assassination, 1981,
and the words "president", "gunfire", "shot", and "murder". Incredibly, even the
Hebrew word for "parade" appears in this coded sequence. President Sadat was
assassinated during the president's review of a military parade in 1981.

Adolph Hitler, the Nazis, and the Death Camps Were Prophesied in the Bible
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Truly one of the most incredible of the hidden codes is their discovery of the
words "Hitler", "Nazis" and names of several of the actual death camps
embedded within this text of the Book of Deuteronomy: "For the Lord your God
is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a might, and a terrible, which
regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: He doth execute the judgment of the
fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou
cleave, and swear by his name. He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath
done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen. Thy
fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the Lord
thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude" (Deuteronomy
10:17-22).

In the Hebrew text of Deuteronomy 10:17-22 , the word "Hitler" in Hebrew is
spelled out at a twenty-two letter interval. Beginning with the second last
appearance of the Hebrew letter (bet) in this passage, researchers counted
every thirteenth letter from left to right. To their amazement they discovered
that the coded letters spelled out the phrase, "b'yam marah Auschwitz", which
means, "in the bitter sea of Auschwitz". As they carried the counting forward
another thirteen letters they came to the letter resh. From this resh, they
counted every twenty-second letter from left to right. To their amazement they
found the word "Hitler", the name of the greatest enemy of the Jews in history,
the one who almost conquered the Western World in World War II. It was Hitler's
satanic obsession against the Chosen People that motivated him to create the
Final Solution which ultimately slaughtered over six-million Jews and another
six-million Poles and Russians in the murderous death camps in Eastern Europe,
such as Auschwitz. Amazingly, the actual names of the Nazi concentration camps,
"Auschwitz" and "Belsen", were also encoded close to the word "Hitler" and
"Berlin" in a cluster of letters hidden within the text of this passage in
Deuteronomy.

Scientists found the Deuteronomy 33:16 also contained a hidden message about the
Nazi Holocaust. Beginning with the first Hebrew letter mem, they counted
every two hundred and forth-sixth letter from left to right and found that the
coded letters spelled out the phrase, "Melek Natzim", which translates as the
"King of the Nazis". Another group of nearby letters spelled out the phrase,
"laiv m'Laivi" which means, "the heart from Levi", referring to the Levites,
one of the twelve tribes of the Jews. Incredibly, this same passage yielded
another hidden code about the rise of Nazi Germany; the phrase "kemi bait rah",
"an evil house rose up".

One of the most fascinating of these Nazi codes appeared in Deuteronomy 32:52.
Beginning with the appearance of the first letter aleph, the researchers
counted from left to right every six hundred and seventy letters throughout
the passage, and discovered the name "Aik'man", which is a Hebrew form of the
name "Eichmann". Adolph Eichmann was a Nazi official who designed the Final
Solution, the evil system of concentration camps used in the Holocaust.
Eichmann and Hitler were among the greatest killers in history.

The whole series of hidden codes dealing with Nazi Germany ended in Deuteronomy
33:21 with a final astonishing code. Beginning with the letter resh that
appeared in the word "Yisrael", researchers counted every twenty-second letter
from left to right and found the tragic phrase "re'tzach alm" describing the
terrible sufferings of the Jews during the Holocaust, which translated as "a
people cry murder, slaughter". I have often been asked by Jews about why the
Bible's prophecies do not say anything about the Holocaust, the worst event in
the history of God's Chosen People. Now we can see that God included these
coded words beneath the text of the Bible describing this terrible time of
persecution.

The French Revolution in the Torah
----------------------------------
Another passage in the Book of Genesis revealed a cluster of encoded words that
deals with the French Revolution. The following words are clustered together:
"Mapecha HaSarfatit" (which spells "the French Revolution" in Hebrew), "Louis",
the name of the French king, and word "Beit[house of] Bourbon", his royal
dynasty. In the same cluster were the following words: "Hamarseilles"(the name
of the French national anthem) and the word "Bastilla"(the infamous French
prison for political prisoners that was stormed by revolutionaries).
Interestingly, this cluster dealing with the French Revolution appears
embedded in Genesis, chapters 39-41, which describe Joseph's imprisonment in
Egypt. The Hebrew word for "Bastilla" is found encoded within the sentence in
Genesis 39:20 that describes "the prison in which the king keeps his prisoners".

It is fascinating that these messages and data have been hidden secretly within
the text of the Torah for thirty-five centuries until today. However, a
skeptical and scientifically minded generation in our lifetime has generally
rejected the authority and inspiration of the Bible. There is a greater need
for our generation to see evidence and proof that the Bible is the true Word of
God. In the sovereign plan of God, it is only in this generation of
sophisticated high-speed computers and new techniques of statistical analysis,
that men could both discover and fully appreciate this divine message from the
past that introduces our skeptical generation to the God of their future.

Dr. David Kazhdan, chairman of the mathematics department at Harvard University,
warned those who would casually reject this evidence of Torah codes: "The
phenomenon is real. What conclusion you reach from this is up to the
individual".

The Scientists Prove Their Findings
-----------------------------------
The Israeli scientists wrote a follow-up paper for submission to Statistical
Science, a scientific journal that insisted that a group of opposing scholars
review and challenge their data and examine their computer program before
publication. Despite the fact that all of the reviewers held previous beliefs
against the inspiration of the Scriptures, the overwhelming evidence and the
integrity of the data forced the editors to approve the study's scientific
accuracy and reluctantly publish the article. Robert Kass, the editor of
Statistical Science, wrote this comment about the study: "Our referees were
baffled: their prior beliefs made them think the Book of Genesis could not
possibly contain meaningful references to modern day individuals, yet when the
authors carried out additional analyses and checks the effect persisted. The
paper is thus offered to Statistical Science readers as a challenging puzzle".
("Equidistant Letter Sequences in the Book of Genesis", Statistical Science,
August 1994). The study concluded that the peculiar sequences of Hebrew letters
at equal spaces from each other that formed significant words could not
possibly have occurred by simple coincidence.

The Response From Recognized Experts
------------------------------------
I realize that this information will sound almost unbelievable to many readers.
However, the well-respected mathematician, Professor Kazhdan of Harvard
University, and his fellow scientists from other universities including Yale
and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, have confirmed that this is "serious
research carried out by serious investigators". These recognized experts in
mathematics wrote a letter confirming the value of this research in the
introduction to a recent Israeli book about this phenomenon called Maymad
HaNosaf (The Added Dimension), written by Professor Doron Witztum of the
Jerusalem College of Technology. Professor Witztum is the leading researcher on
these Torah codes. Realizing that this discovery is extremely controversial in
today's academic world, these scientists encouraged additional research on the
phenomenon and declared that "the results are sufficiently striking to deserve
a wide audience". In light of their known attitude of rejection of the Bible's
inspiration and the supernatural, their statement is a powerful endorsement
that the phenomenon is legitimate.

One of the most interesting of the experiments examined the text of Genesis 38,
which describes the history of Judah and his daughter-in-law Tamar, who gave
birth to two sons, Pharez and Zerah. The Book of Ruth tells us that King David,
the greatest king of Israel, was descended from Pharez in this manner: Pharez
was the ancestor of Boaz, who married Ruth and gave birth to Obed, the father of
Jesse, who was the father of King David. Every one of the five Hebrew names of
these ancestors of King David were found encoded at forty-nine-letter
intervals, hidden within the text of Genesis 38. Incredibly, these five names
also appeared in the correct chronological order as recorded in the Bible. The
statisticians calculated that the odds against these five names occurring in
this passage in the exact, chronological order they lived, are more than eight
hundred thousand to one against this happening by chance.

They also examined the text of Genesis 28 dealing with Jacob's vision of the
ladder to heaven, which he received at Mount Moriah, the "place of God". The
scientists found the key words "Temple" and "Torah" encoded at
twenty-six-letter intervals in a continuous sequence of nine Hebrew letters. The
occurrence of these two significant words occurring together in sequence in a
biblical passage declaring that "this is none other but the house of God, and
this is the gate of heaven" is extraordinary. The researchers calculated the
probability of these key words occurring by chance in this passage dealing
with the "place of God" was less than one chance in seventeen billion
(17,000,000,000).

                                Zion -26

In another analysis, they examined the first chapter of Leviticus, which records
God's laws concerning the priesthood of Aaron, the High Priest of Israel. They
found the Hebrew name "Aaron" encoded twenty-five times in this one chapter,
not counting the four times the word Aaron appears in the normal surface text.
The odds against this occurring by chance are more than four hundred thousand
to one.

Aaron in hebrew (Aharon) found 25 times [22 listed here] in Leviticus - (the
Torah of the Priests):

Scientists who have studied these results state no human could create such a
Hebrew document containing hundreds of encoded, significant words hidden
within this text. They concluded that it would be impossible to reproduce this
phenomenon in a Hebrew text even if they had the help of a group of brilliant
language geniuses, or the assistance of the world's most sophisticated
super-computers. In addition, it is impossible to account for the prophetic
knowledge of future personalities and events found in these codes. The
inescapable, logical conclusion is that God inspired Moses to record the
precise Hebrew words in the words of the Torah. In addition to demonstrating
that the text of the Torah was dictated by God, this evidence of this
marvelous design destroys the false theory of the skeptics that the Book of
Genesis was created by different "editors" who interwove several different
texts centuries after the life of Moses. Only one supernatural mind could have
imposed this marvelously complex design upon these five books of the Law. Only
God could have designed the text of the Torah. Recently, the researchers
discovered similar codes throughout the Old Testament.

More Astonishing Discoveries
----------------------------
In a 1994 follow-up paper, the team of researchers recorded the results of their
search for pairs of encoded words that relate to events which occurred during
the period long after the time when Moses wrote the Torah. They selected the
names of thirty-four of the most prominent rabbis and Jewish sages during the
thousand years leading up to A.D. 1900. Interestingly, the researches simply
selected the thirty-four sages with the longest biographies in the Encyclopaedia
of Great Men In Israel, as well-respected Hebrew reference book. They asked
the computer program to search the text of the Torah for close word pairs
coded at equally spaced intervals that contained the name of the famous rabbis
paired with their date of birth or death (using the Hebrew month and day). The
Jewish people celebrate the memory of their famous sages by commemorating their
date of death. Incredibly, the computer program found every single one of the
thirty-four names of these rabbis embedded in the text of Genesis paired at
significantly close proximity with their actual date of birth or their date of
death. The odds against these particular names and dates occurring by random
chance were calculated by the mathematicians as only once chance in 775 million.

Scholars at the Statistical Science Journal who reviewed this experimental data
were naturally astonished. They demanded that the scientists run the computer
test program again on a second sample searching for the next thirty-two most
prominent Jewish sages listed in the encyclopaedia. To the astonishment of the
skeptical reviewers, the results on the second set of famous sages were
equally successful. The staggering result of the combined test revealed that the
names and dates of their birth or death of every one of the sixty-six most
famous Jewish sages were coded in close proximity within the text of Genesis.

An article in Bible Review magazine by Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, in October 1995,
reported that the mathematical probability of these sixty-six names of Jewish
sages and their dates of birth or death occurring by chance in an ancient text
like Genesis was less than one chance in two and a half billion!
Interestingly, the researchers attempted to reproduce these results by running
the computer program on other religious Hebrew texts outside the Bible,
including the Samaritan Pentateuch. The Samaritans developed their own variant
text of the five books of Moses, called the Samaritan Pentateuch, which
differs in many very small textual changes from the Hebrew Bible, which is the
basis of our modern Authorized King James Version. Despite the surface
similarity of the two texts to the normal reader, the researchers could not
detect word pairs in the Samaritan Pentateuch or any other Hebrew text outside
the Bible.

When you carefully think about the phenomenon you can see that even a minor
change of spelling or choice of words would totally destroy the precise
sequence of Hebrew letters that reveals these hidden words coded at evenly
spaced distances throughout the text of the Torah. A reviewer insisted they
attempt to find codes in a Hebrew translation of Tolstoy's famous novel War and
Peace, because it was the same length as the Book of Genesis. However, the
phenomenon was not present in War and Peace; nor any other modern Hebrew
writing. In fact, an exhaustive analysis reveals that no other Hebrew text
outside the Old Testament contains these mysterious codes, not even the Hebrew
apocryphal books written during the four hundred years before the birth of
Christ.

Naturally, following the appearance of this article on divine authority in Bible
Review, there was a virtual onslaught of letters to the editor in the
following monthly issues attacking the article in the strongest terms. Most of
the critical letters dismissed the phenomenon out-of-hand without seriously
considering the scientific data that was presented. Several critics attacked the
author's argument and data in ways that revealed they either failed to grasp
the actual statistical method used to detect the Hebrew codes or they didn't
understand the rigorous methodology that eliminated the possibility that this
phenomenon had occurred by pure random chance.

After his research was published in Bible Review in November 1995, the original
researcher, Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, responded to his critics who had challenged
his assertion that a pattern of elaborate and significant words was encoded
within the text of the Torah. Dr. Satinover replied to his critics as follows:
"The robustness of the Torah codes findings derives from the rigor of the
research. To be published in a journal such as Statistical Science, it had to
run, without stumbling, an unusually long gauntlet manned by some of the
world's most eminent statisticians. The results were thus triply unusual: in
the extra ordinariness of what was found; in the strict scrutiny the findings
had to hold up under; and in the unusually small odds (less than 1 in 62,500)
that they were due to chance. Other amazing claims about the Bible,
Shakespeare, etc., have never even remotely approached this kind of rigor, and
have therefore never come at all close to publication in a peer-reviewed,
hard-science venue. The editor of Statistical Science, himself a skeptic, has
challenged readers to find a flaw: though many have tried, none has succeeded.
All the 'First Crack' questions asked by Bible Review readers-and many more
sophisticated ones-have therefore already been asked by professional critics
and exhaustively answered by the research. Complete and convincing responses
to even these initial criticisms can get fairly technical" (Bible Review,
November 1995).

Some critics have suggested that the Israeli scientists simply played with the
computer program long enough, that by chance alone, "they got lucky". This
objection raises the relevant objection that there might be numerous
unreported "hidden failures", a common problem in most scientific research
today. To prevent this from occurring, editorial observers from the Statistical
Journal demanded that the scientists analyze their data by examining a
completely new group of personalities that were chosen solely by the
Statistical Journal's editorial judges, namely the sixty-six most famous Jewish
sages. The results I quoted earlier were based on this group of individuals
chosen by these judges. In addition, the judges appointed by the Statistical
Journal analyzed the computer programs to determine that they were both valid
and neutral in their design.

We need to keep in mind that the standard text of the five books of the Torah
was published years ago in widely available computer programs and printed
texts. These texts cannot be modified. In fact, as a result of the production
and sale of fascinating "Torah Codes" computer programs that are now available
in North America, anyone with a computer and lots of time can personally
verify the existence of these codes beneath the text of Scriptures. I have
personally verified the presence of these fascinating patters of hidden codes
during long hours of examination using the computer programs I acquired
several years ago in Jerusalem when this research was just beginning.

Professor Harold Gans, a senior researcher who examined sophisticated foreign
government intelligence codes for the U.S. Army, has publicly confirmed the
existence of these codes as reported in Statistical Journal through the use of
advanced analytic techniques and his own sophisticated computer program. Dr.
Gans is a brilliant mathematician who has published 180 technical papers. Gans
learned of this discovery by Professor Witztum of coded words hidden within
the Torah. However, as a skeptic, he initially believed that the claims were
"ridiculous." Unlike many readers, as an intelligence specialist dealing with
complex codes and computers, Gans had the technical ability to test the claims
and data for himself. In 1989 he created a complex and original computer
program on his computer to check Witztum's data. For nineteen straight days
and nights, Gans let his program examine all possible variations and
combinations in the 74,064 Hebrew letters in the Book of Genesis. Dr. Gans
program checked through hundreds of thousands of possible letter combinations
at many different spaced intervals. Finally, Gans concluded that these Torah
codes actually existed and that they could not have occurred by random chance
or by human design. He had confirmed the absolute accuracy of Professor
Witztum's conclusions. As a result of his discoveries, Professor Gans now
teaches classes in synagogues throughout the world about the incredible
evidence proving divine authorship of the Bible.

A follow-up study examined the data on the sixty-six hebrew sages in the last
2000 years. Incredibly, Dr. Harold Gans's study found that the text of
Genesis also revealed the encoded names of the actual cities where each of
these sixty-six sages was born. Professor Witztum produced a new scientific
paper, on this new set of data about the cities of the sages which proved the
odds against this occurring by chance was one chance in 250,000,000. In
responce to the claim that this phenomenon is a result of simple chance, the
scientific team determined that the odds against even the simplest codes
occurring by random chance is only one chance in 62,500. However, when we
examine the most complex patterns mentioned in this paper the odds are far in
excess of billions to one against the possibility that this phenomenon has
occurred by random chance. I can assure you there are many additional
examples that will be revealed in the future. Careful investigations are now
being conducted by many scientists from other universities and laboratories that
confirm the supernatural nature of the phenomenon.

A Caution Regarding This Phenomenon of Hebrew Codes
---------------------------------------------------
There is an important caution we need to keep in mind regarding this phenomenal
discovery. Remember that no one can search the Torah using these codes to
foretell future events. The reason is that it is impossible to extract the
encoded information unless you already know what the future facts are. The
information about future event cannot be pulled out of the text in code in
advance of the event because you wouldn't know what to tell the computer to
look for. It is only after the event has occurred that you could have the
program look for the name of the person or the event and check to see if the
codes contain the information concerning the event. In other words, this method
confirms that the Torah has encoded data about events that occurred centuries
after it was written. However, the method cannot be used to foretell the
future. The Bible prohibits us in foretelling the future.

The ability to prophesy future events is left to God alone. The Bible clearly
forbids fortune telling. The prophet Isaiah warned against false prophets and
declared only God can prophesy future events accurately (Isaiah 46:9,10). When
an event has occurred and we can verify that the codes within the text of the
Bible accurately describe it thousands of years ago then God will receive the
glory, not man. Although this discovery proves that some future events were
encoded by God within the text of the Torah, we must wait until the future
becomes the past before we can find it. It is also important to remember that
although the phenomenon of hidden codes is statistically powerful, it is still
relatively weak. The proximity of the word-pairs in the Hebrew text is defined
only statistically. In addition, the phenomenon of word-pairs appears only
when we examine a large number of examples that reveal a much closer proximity
than would be expected by chance occurrence alone.

Another important point to note is that these Hebrew codes do not contain any
hidden theological or doctrinal messages. This phenomenon has nothing to do
with numerology. There are no secret messages or theology. God's message to
mankind is only found in the open words of the Scriptures. However, the
discovery in our lifetime of these incredible codes reveals names and events
that provide a wonderful proof to a sceptical humanity that God truly inspired
the writers of the Bible to record His message to mankind.

The phenomenon of Torah codes is now being presented to Jewish groups and
synagogues throughout North America and Israel by a group called "Discovery
Seminar," sponsored by the Alish HaTorah College of Jewish Studies. This group
was created in Israel by a number of scientists, mathematicians, and Judaic
scholars. In addition to presentations in Israel, Aish HaTorah have adapted
the material to English enabling their teams to share this fascinating
information with Jewish audiences throughout the world showing the divine
inspiration and authority of the Torah. Many people have told me that numerous
agnostic Jews have returned to their religious roots in Orthodox Judaism as a
result of their exposure to this incredible evidence of God's inspiration of
the Scriptures.

The Implications
----------------
Even those scholars who are philosophically opposed to God and the inspiration
of the Bible are stunned by this research. Despite many arguments and
challenges the data still stands uncontested. Secular scientific journals
have declared that the phenomenon is real and not a result of fraud or computer
error. The simple truth is that this phenomenon could not have occurred by
chance alone. Nor could any group of brilliant human beings, even with
super-computers at their disposal, produce this awesome result of encoding a
huge number of significant names beneath the surface text of the Torah. The
odds against these biblical codes occurring by random chance are one in
several billion.

To those who would casually ignore these odds and suggest that they are not that
impressive, consider this equivalent scenario. Imagine that someone
blindfolded you and laid out before you a mountain of one billion pills loaded
with cyanide. In the whole pile of pills is one pill that contains sugar.
Would you blindly swallow one of these pills by chance if you knew that only
one pill contained sugar while all of the rest would result in instant death
by cyanide poisoning?

It would surpass the skills of any group of human writers to encode these
complex and prophetic messages within the text of the Torah. Since the
evidence is overwhelming that the five books of Moses were written over
three-and-a-half thousand years ago we are left with the undeniable conclusion
that this phenomenon is another clearly authenticated signature of God upon
the pages of His message to mankind.

The AIDS epidemic - Here are more finds connected with the AIDS virus that
appear coincidentally from Dr. Doron Witztum's book, "HaMaimod HaNosaf" (The
Additional Dimension). In this case, the text was searched for the word 'a
destruction' near the passage in Genesis dealing with the destruction of the
Flood (Noah). In the same tableau the minimum occurrence of the the words 'in
the guise of a virus' is found coincidentally with the words 'AIDS' and 'a
terror'.

New Testament Evidence of Design
--------------------------------
The numerical structure of the Bible has been studied closely, being the
subject of numerous volumes in the past.(1) But none are more provocative than
the works of Dr. Ivan Panin.(2)

Ivan Panin was born in Russia on December 12, 1855. Having participated in
plots against the Czar at an early age, he was exiled and, after spending some
years studying in Germany, he came to the United States and entered Harvard
University. After graduation in 1882, he converted from agnosticism to
Christianity.

In 1890 he discovered some of the phenomenal mathematical designs underlying
both the Greek text of the New Testament and the Hebrew text of the Old
Testament. He was to devote over 50 years of his life painstakingly exploring
the numerical structure of the Scriptures, generating over 43,000 detailed,
hand-penned pages of analysis (and exhausting his health in the process). He
went on to be with the Lord in his 87th year, on October 30, 1942.

The Heptadic Structure
----------------------
The recurrence of the number seven--or an exact multiple of seven--is found
throughout the Bible and is widely recognized.  The Sabbath on the seventh day;
the seven years of plenty and the seven years of famine in Egypt; the seven
priests and seven trumpets marching around Jericho; the Sabbath Year of the land
are well-known examples.

Also, Solomon's building the Temple for seven years, Naaman's washing in the
river seven times, and the seven churches, seven lamp stands, seven seals,
seven trumpets, seven bowls, seven stars, and so on in the Book of Revelation,
all show the consistent use of the number seven.

But there turns out to be much more below the surface. Ivan Panin noted the
amazing numerical properties of the Biblical texts--both the Greek of the New
Testament and the Hebrew of the Old Testament. These are not only intriguing
to discover, they also demonstrate an intricacy of design which testifies to a
supernatural origin!

Vocabulary
----------
One of the simplest--and most provocative--aspects of the Biblical text is the
vocabulary used. The number of vocabulary words in a passage is normally
different from the total number of words in a passage. Some words are repeated.
It is easy, for example, to use a vocabulary of 500 words to write an essay
of 4,000 words.

An Example
----------
The first 17 verses of the Gospel of Matthew are a logical unit, or section,
which deals with a single principal subject: the genealogy of Christ. It
contains 72 Greek vocabulary words in these initial 17 verses. (The verse
divisions are man's allocations for convenience, added in the 13th century.)

The number of words which are nouns is exactly 56, or 7 x 8.

The Greek word "the" occurs most frequently in the passage: exactly 56 times,
or 7 x 8. Also, the number of different forms in which the article "the"
occurs is exactly 7.

There are two main sections in the passage: verse 1-11, and 12-17. In the
first main section, the number of Greek vocabulary words used is 49, or 7 x 7.

Why not 48, or 50?

Of these 49 words, the number of those beginning with a vowel is 28, or 7 x 4.
The number of words beginning with a consonant is 21, or 7 x 3.

The total numbers of letters in these 49 words is 266, or 7 x 38--exactly! The
number of vowels among these 266 letters is 140, or 7 x 20. The number of
consonants is 126, or 7 x 18--exactly.

Of the 49 words, the number of words which occur more than once is 35, or 7 x
5. The number of words occurring only once is 14, or 7 x 2. The number of
words which occur in only one form is exactly 42, or 7 x 6. The number of
words appearing in more than one form is also 7.

The number of the 49 Greek vocabulary words which are nouns is 42, or 7 x 6.
The number of words which are not nouns is 7. Of the nouns, 35 are proper
names, or exactly 7 x 5. These 35 names are used 63 times, or 7 x 9. The
number of male names is exactly 28, or 7 x 4. These male names occur 56 times
or 7 x 8. The number which are not male names is 7.

Three women are mentioned-- Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth. The number of Greek
letters in these three names is 14, 7 x 2.

The number of compound nouns is 7. The number of Greek letters in these 7
nouns is 49, or 7 x 7.

Only one city is named in this passage, Babylon, which in Greek contains
exactly 7 letters.

And on it goes. To get an indication of just how unique these properties are,
try the example in the next section.

The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
-----------------------------
Try designing a genealogy-even from fiction-that meets the following criteria:

1. The number of words in it must be divisible by 7 evenly. (In each of these
constraints, it is assumed that the divisions are without remainders.)
2. The number of letters must also be divisible by 7.
3. The number of vowels and the number of consonants must be divisible by 7.
4. The number of words that begin with a vowel must be divisible by 7.
5. The number of words that begin with a consonant must be divisible by 7.
6. The number of words that occur more than once must be divisible by 7.
7. The number of words that occur in more than one form must be divisible by 7.
8. The number of words that occur in only one form must be divisible by 7.
9. The number of nouns must be divisible by 7.
10. Only 7 words shall NOT be nouns.
11. The number of names in the genealogy must be divisible by 7.
12. Only 7 other kinds of nouns are permitted.
13. The number of male names must be divisible by 7.
14. The number of generations shall be 21, also divisible by 7.

A remarkable evidence of the numerical structure of Scripture: These are met in
the first 11 verses (in Greek) found in Matthew chapter 1.

Gametria
--------
There are even more features in the numerical structure of the words
themselves. As you may know, both Hebrew and Greek uses the letters of the
alphabet for numerical values. Therefore, any specific word--in either Hebrew
or Greek--has a numerical value of its own by adding up the values of the
letters in that particular word. The study of the numerical values of words is
called gametria.

The 72 vocabulary words add up to a gametrical value of 42,364, or 7 x 6,052.
Exactly. If one Greek letter was changed, this would not happen.

The 72 words appear in 90 forms--some appear in more than one form. The
numeric value of the 90 forms is 54,075, or 7 x 7,725. Exactly.

We will defer other examples of gametrical properties of the Biblical text for
subsequent articles, but it becomes immediately obvious that hidden below the
surface are aspects of design that cannot be accidental or just coincidence.
Remember, the rabbis say that "coincidence" is not a kosher word!

Other Implications
------------------
There are words in the passage just described that occur nowhere else in the
New Testament. They occur 42 times (7 x 6) and have 126 letters (7 x 18). How
was this organized?

Even if Matthew contrived this characteristic into his Gospel, how could he
have known that these specific words--whose sole characteristic is that they
are found nowhere else in the New Testament--were not going to be used by the
other writers? Unless we assume the absurd hypothesis that he had an agreement
with them, he must have had the rest of the New Testament before him when he
wrote his book. The Gospel of Matthew, then, must have been written last.

It so happens, however, that the Gospel of Mark exhibits the same phenomenon.
It can be demonstrated that it would have had to be written "last." The same
phenomenon is found in Luke. And in John, James, Peter, Jude and Paul. Each
would have had to write after the other in order to contrive the vocabulary
frequencies! You can demonstrate that each of the New Testament books had to
have been "written last."

There is no human explanation for this incredible and precise structure. It
has all been supernaturally designed. We simply gasp, sit back, and behold the
skillful handiwork of the God who keeps His promises.

And we are indebted to the painstaking examinations and lifetime commitment of
Dr. Ivan Panin for uncovering these amazing insights.

Isn't God--and His remarkable Word--fun?

I truly beleive that we are just beginning to discover the secrets
hidden within the Bible.

I am presently reading a most remarkable book written by James Harrison
called The Pattern and the Prophecy. The novel deals with mathematical
codes within the Bible. The findings are absolutely incredible! If you
think Ivan Panin's research was impressive you should really get a hold
of this book. I have a pointer to a web site where you can order this
book from. If anyone is interested send mail to Robillard@mail.dec.com
and I'll give it to you.

This is amazing stuff and I thank the both of you (Mike
      and Ben) for your contributions!

Truth be told, I don't think I need the numerical stuff,
but there are skeptics who could perhaps be reached by
a knowledge of this aspect of the "God-breathedness" of
      His word!

Mike,

I read the book last week. I found the chapters on the Codes the most
interesting. I didn't recall this book mentioning the Tanakh by name.

Another point that was driven home in this book was the total lack of
serious science in the theory of evolution.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Psalm 40:7
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

If you enjoyed "Signature of God" by Grant Jeffries, you are guaranteed
to also enjoy "Yeshua: The Name of Jesus Revealed in the Old Testament"
by Yacov Rambsel. He also uses equidistant lettering sequences (ELS)
to show who Yeshua is, His origin, His mission, and His destiny to
return to rule over the kingdom of God (See
http://www.direct.ca/trinity/yacov.html). Grant Jeffries also has some
work on this at http://www.direct.ca/trinity/yeshua.html (from
    "Signature of God").

    Some highlights:

    - Yeshua's name appears 614 times in the Torah (613 Laws in Torah +
Jesus' 1 commandment) at 100 ELS. The number 1, the Aleph has always
stood for the Echad-ness of God, the Elohim, the abundance of the L-RD,
the Eternal, the Omnipotent God. The number 100 is made up of 10 x 10,
and stands for the "Ultimated in Ordinal Perfection", 10 -the Yod, being
Ordinal Perfection. The Yod also symbolizes "meekness received from the
hand of the L-RD", for the Hebrew word for hand is "yad" which is
yod-dalet. The Yod is also the first letter of the Divine Name,
Yod Hey Vav Hey. And lastly the Yod stands as a Witness of all thing,
for the yod is also known as the "Rock by which God created the universe."
The Qof, the 19th letter of the Hebrew Alphbet, has the # value of 100.
The Qof position stand for God's Holiness, which conveys the message that
He is Supremely Exalted: He is unlimited! Therefore 1 to 100 skips are
the perfect range for Yeshua's name.

    - Yeshua is encoded in Isaiah 53:8-10...

53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his
generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the
transgression of my people was he stricken.
53:9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death;
because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when
thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall
prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

    - Encoded in Proverbs 30:4, every 22 letters, is the phrase
      "Yeshua The Gift"

30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the
wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath
established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's
 name, if thou canst tell?

    Shalom,
    Barbara
    *************************************************

PZ: What proof do you have that the codes are of God?

Grant: Since these codes do exist (as anyone who will examine a Hebrew
-English Interlinear Bible will confirm) the only question for a believer
is, "What do they mean?" Jesus Himself confirmed that the detailed
spelling and grammar of the Bible was inspired by God. "For verily I
say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no
wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled" (Matthew 5:18). Therefore,
these codes were placed there by God. The Apostle Paul confirmed that,
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"
(2 Timothy 3:16). For the last ten years some of the most intelligent
mathematical minds on earth have examined these codes. The British
Royal Statistical Journal, the American Statistical Science Journal, and the
respected (agnostic) scholarly journal Bible Review have published
articles examining this phenomenon. Over one hundred newspaper articles
and ten major books (Hebrew and English) have written about these
discoveries. To date, no one has found any other Hebrew writing, (the
Talmud, Mishneh Torah, War and Peace translated into Hebrew, Tobit, 1st
and 2nd Maccabbees, etc.) that displays this phenomenon. Despite the
natural questions that any skeptic might ask, after ten years of
personal study, and five years of work using the computer programs, I am
convinced that these codes exist and that no human could have produced them
unless God inspired him to record the precise letters and words as found in
the Scriptures. Thousands of codes have been discovered and more are being
found every day, proving the incredible inspiration of the Scriptures.
My next book, The Handwriting of God, will share additional code
discoveries, together with answers to the many questions that readers
have asked as a result of reading The Signature of God.

PZ: How do you distinguish the Gematria that Yacov uses from Numerology?

Grant: The ancient Hebrew did not have Arabic numerals (1,2,3,4,5, etc.)
and therefore used Hebrew letters to stand for numbers in their language
and writing. Therefore, someone can add up the numeric value of the
individual letters in a particular word or verse and compare that to the
numeric value of another significant word or verse. While there may be
some significance to this information, I believe that it does not lead us
to any information that is objective and certain. Therefore, I have only
dealt with the Equidistant Letter Sequence Codes that clearly reveal
names that are objective and verifiable by any reader with access to a
Hebrew Bible. However, Numerology is quite different. Webster's Ninth
New Collegiate Dictionary defines numerology as follows: "the study of
the occult significance of numbers." There is no "occult significance" in
the Hebrew Codes as discussed by Yacov Rambsel or myself.

PZ: Is what you are using Numerology?

Grant: As I mentioned earlier Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary
defines numerology as follows: "the study of the occult significance of
numbers." The phenomenon of the Hidden Hebrew Codes that I have
researched has nothing to do with Numerology or "the occult significance
of numbers." I, together with almost all other Bible scholars, absolutely
reject numerology as subjective, arbitrary and without any support from
Scripture or the historic theology of the Church. There are no secret
theological messages to be found beneath the text of the Scriptures.
God's message to man can be read by any six year old child. These codes
do not reveal sentences or messages. Rather, the codes reveal the
    "signature of God."

Perhaps an analogy would help. The brilliant Cannon color copier is so
sophisticated that it can perfectly reproduce a hundred dollar bill or a
gov. check. The counterfeiters were delighted because they could
reproduce documents with awesome accuracy. The Treasury Dept. requested
that the Cannon engineers modify the computer program in their machine to
produce a unique alphanumeric code that would be invisible to the naked
eye, but could be detected with a special magnifying glass. When you buy
one of these incredibly accurate copying machines they register you with
a unique code including letters and numbers such as "HKRE5298." Every
document produced from that copier, even a photocopy of a photo of your
child, will contain this unique "HKRE5298" code that can only be seen
with the special magnifier. A gov. agent can examine any photocopy and
instantly know whether that copy came from your machine. This special
code is not a message; it is a unique "signature" identifying that your
machine made the copy. In an analogous manner, I believe that the
discovery of these incredibly complex codes spelling out in Hebrew at
equidistant letter sequence (say every 22 letters) provides a unique
evidence and "signature of God" proving to any who will carefully examine
the evidence, that only God could have produced this phenomenon in this
book written thousands of years ago.

In fact, my position is a minimalist position regarding the codes. The
phenomenon of the awesome complexity of these codes that reveals the
Hebrew names of 25 trees in Genesis 2 with each name of the tree spelled
out 21 letters apart is something that suggests that only God could have
inspired the writer of Genesis to include this information. Secondly, the
inclusion of names of future people, nations and events encoded in
biblical passages also points clearly to the Divine inspiration of the
Scriptures. Period. Unless someone can convince themselves and me that a
human could have placed this complex information in an ancient text
written thousands of years ago, I believe this information will assist
them in coming to a conclusion that the Bible truly is the supernaturally
    inspired Word of God.

PZ: As you well know there are prominent men of God claiming that you
have "been mislead" and have ventured down a wrong path because you are
into numerology. We are also starting to see a division here in regards
    to the Torah Codes.
PZ: What is your response to these people who make those claims?

Grant: I do not yet know of a single knowledgeable person who has
examined the evidence, and then talked to me about their questions, who
still rejects the fact that these codes exist. There are some such as
Hank Hannegraaff, who have never communicated with me, and have never
studied the research, but they have attacked the Hebrew Codes. This is
natural. I understand their natural reluctance to accept something so
incredible without carefully examining the research. This phenomenon is
so incredible that I studied it for ten years before I was willing to
share it with an audience. I needed to assure myself through detailed
research on the computer program and examining the Hebrew-English
Interlinear Bible to confirm the presence of these codes before I chose
to write about them. I understand the natural caution of those who hear
about this incredible phenomenon second hand. However, for those who will
take the time to study the scholarly journals, including the British
Royal Statistical Journal, the American Statistical Journal and the Bible
Review article together with the books The Signature of God and the book
Yeshua by Yacov Rambsel, they will discover that this phenomenon is real.
The codes exist. Even those who question the meaning of the phenomenon,
such as Dr. Randall Price, admitted in the scholarly seminar in Dallas
during January 1997 that "the codes exist." However, he questioned their
significance and meaning. That is fair. But for anyone to deny that these
codes exist is to deny something that can be verified by anyone who has
the Torah Codes computer program or access to the Hebrew-English
    Interlinear Bible.

I have presented this material to over 270,000 readers since August 1996
through my book, The Signature of God. In addition, I have presented it
to many Hebrew professors and Liberty University when I addressed 4,500
students and faculty together with a scholarly conference at Tyndale
Seminary in January. Professors from Hebrew University, the Jerusalem
College of Technology and Harvard University's mathematics dept. chairman
Dr. David Kazhdan have confirmed the reality of the codes. Dr. David
Kazhdan declared: "The phenomenon is real. What conclusion you reach
from this is up to the individual."

PZ: What do you think should be done in regards to the division?

Grant: While I understand the natural reluctance of many to accept the
reality of this phenomenon I assure them, that if they will devote a few
hours to read my book, research the articles and compare the data with a
Hebrew-English Interlinear Bible, they will conclude that these codes are
real and that they reveal the names of Hitler, Rabin and, most
importantly, Jesus. To my mind, the presence of the name "Yeshua-Jesus"
in every major messianic prophetic passage found in the Old Testament is
God's "seal of approval" on the phenomenon of the Hebrew Codes. We have
received numerous communications by phone and letter confirming that many
have accepted Christ as their personal Saviour as a result of the
information presented in The Signature of God. In addition, many reports
indicate that backsliders have returned to faith in our Lord as a result
of the information in our book that confirmed that the Bible is truly
    inspired by God.

My personal belief is that the continued study of the phenomenon of the
Hebrew Codes by thousands of Christians and Jews will eventually produce
a widespread acceptance of the validity and authenticity of these codes
over the next few years. I expect that the codes will ultimately be as
well known and accepted as the Dead Sea Scrolls (which were widely
    rejected when initially discovered).

Those who have studied the codes and appreciate the incredible proof of
the supernatural inspiration of the Scriptures provided by the codes will
continue to share this information with others. For those who remain
skeptical, I recommend that they take the time to embark on a detailed
study of the phenomenon. They will ultimately be thrilled with the
overwhelming evidence of the supernatural origin of the Word of God and
the revelation of Yeshua-Jesus throughout the Scriptures. Thousands of
Jews worldwide are being introduced to the reality of Yeshua through the
proof from their own Hebrew Bible that His Name is found in every
    messianic passage.

PZ: While hearing you speak at the International Prophecy Conference in
Florida, you gave some "rules" to the Torah Codes as to what they are
and how / how not to use them. Can you repeat those for us here and
give the reasons behind these rules? (i.e. Torah Codes are not to be used to
    foretell the future)

Grant: There are three basic cautions that I always mention when I discuss
or teach about the Hidden Hebrew Codes.

     1) These codes are only found in the original Hebrew text of the Old
Testament. The text which reveals the codes is the authorized Masoretic
text used by the Orthodox Jews. While the text found in the Dead Sea
Scrolls differs slightly from the Masoretic text, it differs in only 169
letters out of more than 305,000 Hebrew letters used in the Torah. That
is less than one letter in 1,800 that differs. Furthermore, the
differences are primarily in different spellings of particular words, not
changes in the wording. The codes do not exist in any translation of the
original language of the Bible, such as English, etc. It is noteworthy
that similar codes have been found in the Greek of the New Testament.
However, there are no books or computer programs that exist for the Greek
    text at this time.

     2) The phenomenon of the Hebrew Codes is not Numerology. The study of
Numerology is a subjective, arbitrary subject, without any support from
Scripture or the historic theology of the Church. Webster's Ninth New
Collegiate Dictionary defines numerology as follows: "the study of the
occult significance of numbers." Ancient mystical rabbis would add up the
numerical value of the Hebrew letters in a particular verse and compare
it with another verse that added up to the same number. Then, they would
claim that there was some secret message hidden in these numbers. I
reject this. You can play with letters and numbers and come up with
millions of combinations. However, it is meaningless!

There is no numerology or "occult significance" in the Hebrew Codes as
discussed by Yacov Rambsel or myself. The Hebrew Codes reveal no secret
theological messages found beneath the text of the Scriptures. God's
message to man is to be read by anyone in the surface text of the
inspired Word of God. These Hebrew Codes do not reveal sentences or
theological messages. Rather, the discovery of the Hebrew Codes reveals
something that no human could have created, the "signature of God," a
wonderful proof that God alone is the author the Word of God.

I have only written about the Hebrew Codes, the Equidistant Letter
Sequence Codes, that clearly reveal names in the Hebrew text of the Old
Testament at equally spaced letter sequences. These names are objective
and verifiable by any reader with access to a Hebrew Bible.

    3) Lastly, I warn that no one can use this phenomenon to discover
knowledge about future event. God forbids fortune telling. The presence
of these Hebrew Codes proves the Divine nature of the Word of God.
Period. Until an event has happened, we cannot look for it in the codes.
An event must have occurred. Then we could ask the computer to find the
name of Yitzchak Rabin and the fact that he was to be assassinated. Until
the event occurred no one would have known what to ask the computer to
look for, nor could we have know what the words meant until after the
event occurred. For example, could you have found out about Adolph Hitler
back in 1920 if you had possessed the knowledge that these codes existed
and had a computer. The answer is NO!! Back in 1920, you could not have
found the name "Hitler" because Adolph's name was not "Hitler." He had
not yet changed his name to "Hitler." Nor could you have found Auschwitz
because it was an obscure, unknown Polish village. Even the word
"Holocaust" was unknown. It is only after an event has occurred that we
can ask the computer program to look for a key word and discover whether
or not God has secretly encoded those words thousands of years ago in the
    Hebrew Scriptures.

I believe that the purpose of these marvelous Hebrew Codes is to confirm
to a generation of skeptics that the Bible is truly the inspired and
supernatural Word of God. Furthermore, these codes glorify the Name of
the Lord because they demonstrate the supernatural nature of His
revelation while revealing the name of His Messiah, Jesus Christ.

For those who wish to study this phenomenal discovery for themselves,
they may obtain the book The Signature of God from most Christian
bookstores. It is listed as the best-selling religious book at the
moment. However, if you cannot easily obtain the book in your local

Subject: Messiah Blood, Messiah's Blood, The Blood of The Messiah

    Shalom to all,

    **********
    Part I
    **********
I usually get up about 5:30 to 6 am every day and try to search for a
phrase or words on my Torah Codes program. The day I found this first
part was on a day that I was praying for the truth to be made known to a
Jewish friend of mine. Jewish people today, for the most part, do not
believe that Messiah had to shed His blood or suffer for their sins,
however the Jewish people of old believed differently.

I could quote many Rabbis, and Sages, but many of you know them already.
However, I will quote a few just to make my point.

    1. Isaiah 53:4-6 Pesikta Rabbati ch. 36 states:
"And the Holy One made an agreement with (The Messiah) and said to Him,
"The sins of those which are forgiven for your sake will cause you to be
put under an iron yoke, and they will make you like this calf whose eyes
are dim, and they will choke your spirit under the yoke, and on account
of their sins your tongue shall cleave to your mouth. Are you willing to
do this?" "Perhaps this agony will last many years?" and the Holy One
said to Him: "By your life and by the life of my head, one week only have
I decreed for you; but if your soul is grieved I shall destroy them even
now." But (The Messiah) said to Him: "Sovereign of the world, with the
gladness of my soul and the joy of my heart I take it upon me, on
condition that not one of Israel shall perish and not only in my days,
but also those who are hid in the dust; and not only should the dead of
my own time be saved, but all the dead from the dead from the first man
until now; also the unborn and those whom thou hast intended to create.
Thus I agree, and on this condition I will take it upon myself."

This portion of the Midrash, called the Haggadah which was compiled in
the 9th century, was based on writings from Talmudic times from 200
    BCE- 400 CE
    ***********************************************************************

    2. Isaiah 53:5-Rabbi Elijah de Vidas states:
" But he was wounded, etc.... meaning that since the MESSIAH bears our
iniquities which produce the effect of His being bruised, it follows that
whosoever will not admit that MESSIAH thus suffers for our iniquities,
must endure and suffer for himself."
    **********************************
It is wrong to believe that most Jewish people know this information, for
most never heard of the many quotes from the Rabbi's of old.
    **********************************
    Now for my first find:

Messiah Blood ( mem-shin-yod-chet-dalet-mem) is found 8 times in Torah
by a skip of 1 to 386. I was led to use a 386 skip because name in Hebrew
is YOD which = 10, SHIN =300 VAV = 6 AYIN =70. when you add them up you
get a total of 386. So by faith I used the number of His name to search
with this day. This is what I found with that skip in Torah.

    1. Gen 5:3 to 5:18, a skip of + 124--starting with the mem in the word
"NAME"--Strongs # 8034. This passage is talking about the lineage of
Adam. The Gospel first appears in Gen chapter 5, by way of Shemology,
see Chuck Missler site of the break down, it reads like this:
"Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but the Blessed G-d shall come down
teaching that His death shall bring the desparing rest or comfort"
    <http://www.khouse.org>

    2. Gen 17:19 to 18:24, skip of + 323--In the first word "AND SAID"--#559
This passage is talking about the promise God made, an everlasting
covenant between He and Isaac. At this point Isaac was not yet born, an
Sarah had not yet laughed. But God in his foreknowing knew Sarah would
laugh when the LORD would bring the message that she would bear a child
    in her old age.

    3. Lev 23:34 to 24:3, skip of + 159--occurring in the word
"FIFTEENTH"--#2568-- in this chapter which tells of the Feast of the
LORD, we find that in verse 34, God tells Moses, the man of God that on
the fifteenth of 7th month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles, i.e.
Booths, which will last 7 days. And on the last day of that Feast a
Sabbath Rest, a Shemini Atzeres, this is the 8th day. What a Shemini
Atzeres is, is a picture of the Olam Haba, or the 1000 year reign of
Messiah on earth, a time of rest. We can only enter true rest through
The Blood of Messiah, by His atoning work.

    4. Num 1:6 to 1:32, skip of - 211-- falling in the word 'SIMEON"--#8095--
in this passage the census/genealogy of Israel's warriors is being shown
to us. The root of the name Simeon is "Shema", meaning to "Hear". This is
the watch word in Jewish Life, and Death.

    5. Num 1:45 to 2:21, skip of - 266--occurring in the words "THEIR
    FATHERS"--#1--same passage as above.

    6. Num 2:9 to 2:31, skip of - 186--occurs in the word "HUNDRED"--#3967-
in this passage we read about the Banners, or Standards of the tribes.
Judah is in verse 9, and Dan is in verse 31.

    7. Num 11:21 to 12:15, skip of + 310 in the word "MOSES"--#4872--in this
passage God asked Moses "Is the LORD'S hand to short? And a great plague
    was kindled on the people.

    8. Num 31:30 to 31:36, skip of + 48--occurring in the word
"MAN"--#120--this passage deals with the tithe that is to be paid to the
    Levites

Let me restate myself, I chose a 1 to 386 scan because of the Gematria of
Yeshua's name. Eight is also linked to His Greek name, which adds up to
    888. Eight also means New Beginnings, and has to do with the New Covenant
Rest, this make the Lev 23:34 to 24:3 even more significant because it
speaks of the 8th day rest, a Sabbath. I will tell you this, the Name
Yeshua also is revealed in Lev chapter 23, as well as-in Him is Srength.

In this first part what I found are the words "Messiah" and "Blood",
however there is a way to spell the phrase "Messiah's Blood," or "Blood
of Messiah," (dalet-mem-mem-shin-yod-chet) by still using the same skip
of 1 - 386. So on with the second part.

    *******
    Part II
    *******

    1. Gen 4:25 to 10:6, Skip of -385 starting with the chet in the word
"ANOTHER", Strong's # 312. In this passage we find that "Adam knew his
wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God she
said, has appointed me ANOTHER seed instead of Abel, who Cain slew."
Eve was looking for a deliver through her seed, which she brought forth
in blood. We know without Seth there could be no Messiah.

    2. Ex 7:19 to 22:8, Skip of +381 starting with the dalet in the word
"YAD, HAND" #3027. What we have in this passage is very powerful, We see
God telling Moses to tell Aaron to, "take thy rod, and stretch out your
HAND upon the waters of Egypt, upon the streams, upon their rivers, and
upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become
blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both
in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone." This is the first of the
plague's to be poured out on Egypt, a blood plague.

    3. Lev 21:6 to 22:18, Skip of -355 starting with the chet in the word
"to POLLUTE, to PROFANE, to WOUND, or to PIERCE" #2490. This passage
speaks to the priests the sons of Aaron, about the things they can, and
cannot do. In verse 6 we read: "They shall be holy unto their God, and
not WOUND-PROFANE-PIERCE, OR POLLUTE the name of their God: for the
offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do
offer: therefore they shall be holy."

    4. Num 4:31 to 5:2, Skip of +186 starting with the dalet in the word
"PILLAR, COLUMN, OR STAND" #5982. This passage is telling us about the
"...service in the tabernacle of the congregation; the boards of the
tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the PILLARS thereof, and sockets
    thereof,".

    5. Num 33:38 to 33:41, Skip of +19 starting with the dalet in the word
"MOON, as in NEW MOON, OR MONTH". We read that "Aaron the priest went up
into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the
fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of
Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month." The word "MONTH" in this
verse, is really NEW MOON, which is the first of ever month on the Jewish
    calendar.

    ***********************************
Now lets talk about the number FIVE
    ***********************************

Five is the number of grace, in the tabernacle their were 5 pillars that
supported the linen hangings of 5 cubits X 5 cubits high. Linen always
speaks of righteousness. The alter where the burnt offerings were placed
was 5 cubits X 5 cubits square, once again showing God Grace by accepting
the offerings. Gen chapter 1, it speak of Life, Living, and Living thing,
5 times in this chapter. The Hebrew word "or", light is used 5 times in
Gen chapter 1, and the word "maor", meaning "light giver" is used 5 times
in the 4th day of creation. God in changing Abram's, and Sarai name gave
to them the 5th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet, a HEY, to be added to
their names. Abram becomes Abraham, and Sarai becomes, Sarah, adding
GRACE to their names. The Blood of Messiah is the Gift of Grace, to all
who will call on the name of the LORD. Now on to part 3.

    **********
    Part III
    **********

The phase "The Blood Of The Messiah", in Hebrew is spelled,
dalet-mem-hey-mem-shin-yod-chet, according to Dr. James D. Price, Ph.D.
Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament, at Temple Baptist Seminary in
Chattanooga, TN. According to Dr. Price the Hebrew must have the definite
article, (hey) in this phase to read "The Messiah".

In looking for this phase with the skip of 1 to 386 - provided nothing,
however upon flashing a prayer to the Lord, I had Scripture come to mine.
It was Psalms 90:4, "For a thousand years in your sight O' God, are but
as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." Also II Peter
3:8, tells use the same thing, and in verse 9 we read: "The Lord is not
slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that
all should come to repentance." The number 7000 came to mine, one
thousand years for each day, so I tried a skip of 1 to 7000, in each of
the first five books of the Bible, and here is what I found.

    ***********************************
          The Blood Of The Messiah
       (dalet-mem-hey-mem-shin-yod-chet)
    ************************************
    In Genesis we found nothing.

    1. In Exodus 14:8 to 30:23, we found a skip of +4296, starting with a
dalet in the word "YAD, HAND" #3027. In this passage we see the Children
of Israel, "...when out of Egypt, with a high HAND." This is talking
about the Power of the Hand of the Almighty.

    In Leviticus we found nothing.

    2. In Numbers 17:23 to 27:3, we found a skip of +2640, starting again
with the dalet in the word "EDUWTH, WITNESS, or TESTIMONY."
This passage is speaking of "Aaron's rod that budded in the Tabernacle
of Witness." In verse 23 we read, "And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring
Aaron's rod again before the TESTIMONY, to be kept for a token against
the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmuring from me, that
they die not." This is a powerful verse of Scripture.

    3. In Numbers 6:14 to 26:50, we found a skip of -5927, starting with a
chet in the word "EchaD, ONE, a plural, or united ONE" #259. This skip is
the longest skip of the three that I found, yet I think it is also
powerful in it's placement. Verse 13-14, tells us about "the Nazarite,
that when the days of his separation are filled, he is to bring an
offering to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:" "and he
shall offer his offering unto the LORD, ONE he lamb of the first year
without blemish for a burnt offering,( this is in Hebrew a Olah, a
Holocaust) and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for sin
offering, and one ran without blemish for peace offering."

I'm not sure at this point what the significance of the large skip
numbers mean. I've not had time to study them as yet but I do know they
are significance to HaShem. Nonetheless, I do find a Shemology in the
placement of the three words where these skip's fall.

    Yad-Eduwth-EchaD
    *************************************
    "Powerful Hand Witnesses One" or,
"(A) Powerful Hand Witnesses (the) ONE" or,
"(A) High Hand (gives) Testimony (to) ONE"

Now you may say, this is to Subjective, but according to the Jewish
Rabbis this is Kosher, and let me tell you why. Deuteronomy 6:4 tells us
this: "Hear O Israel: The LORD our GOD is ONE, (EchaD) LORD".

The word "echad" is often written like this: "EchaD", what they do is
enlarge the E, and the D in the word, even in the middle of the sentence,
as in the Deuteronomy passage. The reason is the word ED in Hebrew is the
word WITNESS, (see Joshua 22:27, the word Witness, or Testimony is the
word ED-#5707). So according the Rabbis the ED stands as a Witness, or a
Testimony in the "Shema" (Duet 6:4-passage) to the LORDS being ONE.

I think that the three words in my ELS find speak the same thing.
    So What Do You Think?
    *********************
Now before I end this Part III, let me tell you about the number THREE.
    ***********************************************************************

Three means Divine Completeness and Perfection. The Hebrew letter Shin
has 3 heads, and stands for "the All-Sufficient One". Three also stands
for "This World, The Messianic Age, and The World to Come." The Rainbow,
God's covenant sign, reverberate with 3 primary colors, Red, Yellow, and
Blue. In Genesis 18, three men came to Abraham, and one of those men was
address as the, YOD HEY VAV HEY, LORD. We find the phase "the tent door"
repeated 3 times in Genesis 18. Messiah is the Door, the way to God.

In Numbers 6:23-27 Israel is given a 3 fold blessing. And just as the
number Five is seen in the Tabernacle, so is the number Three. There are
3 divisions of the dwelling place of God on earth, the court, the Holy
place, and the Holy of Holies. There are 3 metals used in the
construction of the Tabernacle, gold, silver, and brass, and 3 colors,
blue, purple, and scarlet. It also had 3 entrances, the one Gate, the one
Door, and the Vail to the Holy of Holies.

And the book of Leviticus is the 3rd book, and has 27 chapters, that is
3x3x3. It has 3 Feasts ordained, and set forth in 3 events, 1. Passover
with the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits- 2. The Feast of
Weeks, or Pentecost, 3. Day of Blowing, Yom Kippur, and The Feast of
    Tabernacles, with the 8th day.
    ****************************************************************
    Well that's it for now,
    Shalom,
    Barbara

PS-- Thank you Dr. James Price for your help.
Dr. J.D. Price agreed helped me with the Hebrew grammar, he however does
    not agree with my findings.

Here is Grant's and Yacov's response to the article that Jew's for Judaism
posted in the TCodes group.

A Response to Rabbi Daniel Mechanic, Doron Witztum and Harold Gans

re: The Name Yeshua - Jesus in the Hebrew Text of the Bible
by Grant R. Jeffrey - the author of "The Signature of God" and Yacov Rambsel -
the author of "Yeshua - The Name of Jesus Revealed in the Old Testament"

Recently the above named gentlemen issued a rebuttal and challenge to Yacov
Rambsel and myself regarding the material in our recent books that reports on
Yacov's discovery. Yacov Rambsel discovered that the name of "Yeshua" - Jesus
is spelled out at equidistant letter sequence in significant prophetic passages
in the Hebrew text of the Bible from Genesis to Malachi.

Both Yacov and I will be publishing new books in the next few months that will
explore this phenomenon in greater detail revealing many additional
discoveries. In addition, these forthcoming books will deal with various
questions and objections that have naturally been raised by both Christians and
Jews who have read about the phenomenon of the codes. Both books will answer
these questions in depth, including the specific objections raised by Mechanic,
Witztum and Gans to the discovery of the name "Yeshua" in dozens of messianic
passages.

I am presently heavily involved in researching and writing a commentary on
prophetic portions of the Bible for Zondervan Publishing Co. as well as my
next book that prevent me from providing an exhaustive response to every item
in their article. Therefore, my response today will not exhaustively deal with
every single item raised by their article. My next book will deal with these
objections in detail. However, in this short article I will deal with the
basic objection raised by these men to the name "Yeshua" appearing at ELS in
the Bible.

Their basic objections:

1. They claim we (Rambsel, Jeffrey, Dr. Moshe Katz - author of CompuTorah,
and other Jewish authors of books including Fascinating Torah Prophecies) have
a "complete misunderstanding of the "codes methodology," how it works, and
what can and cannot be asserted concerning them." They write, "The following
comments apply, therefore, to all of these works."

I can only answer for Yacov Rambsel and myself. We do understand the
difference between (A) the type of code phenomena proven by a statistical and
mathematical experiment such as the discovery of the "Famous Rabbis" and
their dates of death" which lent itself to statistical analysis because of its
unique factors and (B) the other type of code which is significant but does not
lend itself to statistical analysis. Type (B) codes discovered at this point
in time are much more numerous than type (A). While the critics refer to
additional statistically verified type (A) codes, they have not yet published
them. We have not claimed that the additional Type (B) code discoveries,
regarding Hitler, Sadat, or Yeshua, reached the level of mathematical proof
provided by the statistical validation of the discovery of the "Famous Rabbis"
experiment.

In a historical overview of the discovery of the code phenomenon, we noted the
initial discovery of the codes in the medieval period, followed by Rabbi
Weissmandl's discoveries in this century. All of these were Type (B) codes.
Then we explored the discoveries in Israel in the last decade or so. We did
not state that the codes involving the name "Yeshua" had been subjected to an
experiment using statistical analysis because the nature of their appearance
in specific and well known messianic prophetic passages did not lend itself to
the same statistical analysis as the "Famous Rabbis" experiment. However, the
assertion by the authors of this critique that no codes have significance unless
they meet the specific mathematical and statistical criteria found in the
"Famous Rabbis" statistical experiment is simply wrong.

2. The critics of the Yeshua codes claim that "if it cannot be proven that a
particular 'code' was deliberately placed in a document, and a statistical
evaluation shows it to be meaningless, their 'existence' cannot - and should
not - be used as proof of anything" (underlining to emphasize their point by G.
Jeffrey).

A careful reading of their critique reveals that this is their basic and
fundamental criticism of Yacov's discovery of the Yeshua codes. They correctly
point out that the ELS codes revealing "Hitler" "Sadat" "Rabin" and the many
"Yeshua" codes cannot meet the statistically verified criteria as to their
significance in the same way that the "Famous Rabbis"" experiment could be
verified. However, the critics assert that this means that these Type (B)
encoded words are therefore meaningless is both illogical and inconsistent. A
particular ELS encoded word or words can be meaningful based on its placement
in a particular passage of the Bible even though it would not meet the
specific statistical evaluation criteria as demonstrated in the "Famous
Rabbis"" experiment.

I will respond in point form:

a) Most, if not all, of the authors of this critique participate in or support
the teaching of the codes by the Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminar. I have
received numerous audio tapes, their publications and reports from those
attending these seminars. All of these sources, including numerous newspaper
articles, confirm that these Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars enthusiastically
teach the phenomenon of the codes including both the "Famous Rabbis""
statistically verified experiment and additional code discoveries including
many of the following Type (B) codes: Torah, Sadat, the Rabin assassination,
Hitler, the 25 trees in Gen. 2, the word Aaron in Lev. 1, the ancestors of King
David in Gen. 38, Hanukkah, Hasmoneans, Zedekiah and many more.

In their brochure, Aish Hat Torah calls these other codes "impressive" while
noting that they are not statistically verified. One of the purposes of these
Aish Ha Torah/Discovery lectures is to prove the following: 1) The Bible was
inspired by God because no human could have produced these complex codes
containing knowledge of future events. 2) The difficulty of encoding even
known information such as the names of 25 trees encoded at an ELS of every 21
letters in the Gen. 2 account about the Garden of Eden strongly argues for a
supernatural origin for the text.

b) Obviously, most of the above mentioned code examples taught by Aish Ha
Torah/Discovery Seminars do not meet the special statistical criteria that was
applied to the "Famous Rabbis"" experiment. Does that mean that their
illustration of these discovered codes about "Hitler" and "Sadat," etc.
demonstrates "a complete misunderstanding of the 'codes methodology,' how it
works, and what can and cannot be asserted concerning them"? Obviously not.
Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars, supported by our critics, teaches these Type
(B) codes in addition to the "Famous Rabbis" experiment as examples of the code
phenomenon. Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars teaches that these other codes,
even though not statistically verified, are of significant interest to be
worthy of sharing with their audience.

Therefore, it is dishonest for these critics to claim that we as Christians are
"irresponsible" and engaging in "fraudulent and deceptive" behavior to reveal
that the name "Yeshua" appears encoded at ELS significantly in virtually every
one of the major prophetic passages that tell us about the Messiah. I
understand why they are angry and upset at this discovery of the name Yeshua
in messianic passages. However, it is illogical and dishonest to vilify
Christians for noting that the name "Yeshua" appears encoded in key messianic
passages while supporting Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars that reveal similar
interesting ELS coded words such as the appearance of the names of the ancestors
of King David encoded in the Gen. 38 account of Judah and Tamar. Similarly,
Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars enthusiastically noted the code showing the
key words "Torah" and "Temple" occurring in the significant Gen. 28 passage
concerning Jacob's dream of the staircase to Heaven at "the house of God.

Anyone who examines this phenomenon for a while will recognize the difference
between a code that can be statistically verified and those that are
"significant" because of their occurrence in a particular passage of Scripture.
While anyone can correctly state that these "other" codes are not statistically
verified, most observers, including the lecturers of Aish Ha Torah still
conclude that they are meaningful and "significant." Obviously, each person
must examine the data for themselves to determine whether these particular
encoded words are significant or merely random.

c) Toward the end of their critique of the Yeshua codes, the authors admit
that "these examples (Sadat, Diabetes, Gulf War, etc.) employ the same
methodology as Witztum's "Famous Rabbis" experiment, but they cannot be
verified as valid codes since they did not meet the scientific criteria
necessary to conclusively demonstrate their authenticity." However, Aish Ha
Torah/Discovery Seminars constantly refers to these "other" code discoveries
in its publications, newspaper interviews and seminars.

Since the authors of this critique support the work of Aish Ha Torah/Discovery
Seminars, it is dishonest of them to attack the motives of Yacov Rambsel and
myself when we honestly share the discovery of codes that we feel are
significant due to their appearance in key messianic prophetic passages. These
discoveries are significant even though they do not meet the criteria of the
"Famous rabbis" experiment. However, virtually all other code discoveries, by
their nature, also fail to meet the statistical criteria of that particular
experiment. Obviously, thousands of people find these "other" code phenomenon
to be both interesting and meaningful.

d) These critics reject the Yeshua codes stating that the name Yeshua appears
so often it is meaningless. First, the critics acknowledge and do not deny
that the name Yeshua does appear in all of these key messianic passages. It is
true the name Yeshua does appear frequently, but that could well be true
because He is the Messiah that the whole Bible teaches about. Our point is that
the name Yeshua is encoded significantly in virtually every single major
messianic prophecy in the Bible. If the name Yeshua turned up encoded in only
a few of these critically significant passages, it would not have been
significant and we would not have presented this discovery. However, most
unbiased observers will find it meaningful that this name Yeshua is the only
encoded name of a person that repeatedly appears in dozens of specific
messianic prophetic verses.

The critic's discovery that other names such as "Mohammed" and "Koresh" appear
at various intervals throughout the Scriptures is not significant statistically
as they themselves note. However, it is not significant or meaningful in any
other way because these names appear randomly throughout the text. Again, I
note that we have not found any other significant name encoded repeatedly in
clearly messianic prophetic passages. While our critics naturally reject our
conclusion that Yeshua's name in these passages confirms His identity as the
Messiah, no other person in history other than Jesus of Nazareth, ever
fulfilled the 17 messianic prophecies that I discuss in chapter 8 of The
Signature of God. Therefore, it is very significant to Christians to discover
that God has placed the name of Yeshua encoded in virtually every messianic
passage.

e) I believe the primary value of the code phenomenon is to prove to this
generation of skeptics that only God could inspire the human authors to record
the words found in the Bible. The presence of encoded words revealing names
and places of future events as well as incredibly complex encoded words (such
as the 25 names of trees in Gen. 2) is a phenomenon far beyond the ability of
any human author writing thousands of years ago. In May of 1996, after writing
my chapter on the Hebrew Codes and while preparing to typeset my book, Yacov
Rambsel shared with me his fascinating discovery of the Yeshua codes. After
discussion I decided to include a synopsis of his discovery in a chapter in my
book. Later, we agreed to publish his manuscript as Yeshua - The Name of Jesus
Revealed in the Old Testament as a significant discovery that should be
considered by anyone seeking the truth about the Bible.

f) The primary readers of our books are Gentiles, both Christians and
non-believers. However, we receive letters from Jews from time to time that
indicate that some of our readers are Jews who find this material of interest.

g) The other issues the critics raised about the appearances of the words:
"Mohammed," "Koresh," and "false prophet," etc. will be amply dealt with in
both Yacov's and my next book that will be published this summer.

h) In my book and in my presentations I quote the statements of Dr. Gans,
Witztum and Satinover in the chapter dealing with the original codes
discoveries about the Famous Rabbis, Hitler, Sadat, etc. I have never claimed
or implied that these gentlemen endorsed or approved of Yacov's discovery of
the name Yeshua in the codes. In fact, I often comment in my lectures on fact
that the Yeshua codes are rejected by the Jewish community and the above named
gentlemen.

i) In my presentation of the codes to audiences and in our books, I did not
claim that the codes revealing the name Yeshua were evaluated using the
detailed statistical analysis method applied to the "Famous Rabbis" experiment.
Rather, I presented the fact that this name Yeshua appears in each of many
significant messianic prophetic passages. When teaching this material I
discuss at some length the process of the statistical verification of the
"Famous Rabbis" experiment.

The other encoded discoveries about "Hitler," "Sadat," etc. are presented as
encoded words significantly clustered together in a particular text. This is
also the basic presentation method of Aish Ha Torah/Discovery Seminars
according to the materials I have reviewed and the discussions I have had with
one of their lecturers. The codes revealing the name "Yeshua," "Yeshua Shmi
- Jesus is my name," and "Yeshua ha'Mashiach" are presented in the context of
the significant messianic biblical passage in which they occur.

According to the argument presented by the critics Rabbi Daniel Mechanic,
Doron Witztum and Harold Gans in this critique of the Yeshua codes, the only
code which is "legitimate" and that should be "honestly" shared with any
audience is solely the "Famous Rabbis" experiment which was statistically
verified by mathematical experts. I do not acknowledge that their criteria is
correct; but I would admit they are honestly consistent in their critique of
us if they have never associated themselves with the Aish Ha Torah/Discovery
Seminars teaching of these other (not statistically verified) codes about
"Hitler," "Sadat," Diabetes," "Gulf War," etc." which obviously do not meet
the statistical criteria they insist upon.

However, according to my sources, these gentlemen have discussed and taught
about these "other" code discoveries that did not meet the strict statistical
criteria of the "Famous Rabbis" experiment. Therefore, they are unjust in their
attack on the honesty of Yacov Rambsel and myself. They claim that, because we
discuss coded words that are significant in terms of their placement in
Scripture (but have not been statistically verified by mathematical experiment)
we are "fraudulent and deceptive, and should cease immediately."

If these gentlemen are honest about their claim they will declare on the
Internet and send letters to myself and Yacov Rambsel confirming that they
have never taught, shared or discussed any other code phenomenon other than
the "Famous Rabbis" experiment. If they can honestly declare to the world that
they have never mentioned any other code discoveries to anyone, then they
would at least be consistent in their critique of our books. I believe these
gentlemen have taught the existence of these "other" codes that do not meet
the test of statistical mathematics. Therefore, their basic argument is
inconsistent, illogical, and false. It will be interesting to see if they can
absolutely claim that none of the three authors have ever taught about the
"other" code discoveries. I await their reply with interest.

Lastly, Yacov and I believe sincerely that these "other" code discoveries
about "Hitler," Sadat," and the dozens of codes revealing "Yeshua" are both
significant and meaningful. Therefore, we believe that we should share these
discoveries by ourselves and others with the largest possible audience. We
understand why the authors of this critique reject any of the evidence about
the Yeshua codes while being willing to accept the significance of "other"
codes revealing the names of "Hitler," "Eichmann," etc. even though they
cannot meet the strict statistical evaluation of the "Famous Rabbis" code.
However, we believe that these "other" codes should be examined by everyone
to determine their importance.

Unfortunately, the graphic artist who rendered the cover art of the Yeshua
book decided to vertically reverse the electronic image of the scroll with the
Hebrew text without our instruction or approval. The printer produced the
initial cover printing with the reversed image before I returned from a trip
abroad. The error was corrected in the next printing ten days later.

The Book of Acts reported these words of the great Jewish sage Gamaliel spoken
almost two thousand years ago when he considered the testimony of some of the
earlier followers of Yeshua. "Then stood there up one in the council, a
Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the
people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; And said unto
them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as
touching these men" (Acts 5:34,35). Gamaliel then spoke the following words of
advice to the Jewish council that was considering how to deal with the
followers of Jesus: "And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let
them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to
nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found
even to fight against God" (Acts 5:38,39). We believe that God will reveal the
truth about these Yeshua codes to the minds and spirits of all those who seek
Him.
