233.0. "RDB/VMS date and FOCUS problem" by BTOVT::STODDARD_N () Wed Jul 05 1989 13:39

    We are currently testing FOCUS against an RDB database where we have
    all of our dates stored as VMS dates. When FOCUS reads a date that
    has no date loaded into it, it displays Nov. 17, 1958. We need to be
    able to check for date "eq ' '". This does not work for us, because
    it considers the Nov. date to have a value. The FOCUS masters have
    Usage=YMD and Actual=Date. Does anyone else have this as a problem?

Hello Nancy.

  If you put nothing in an RDB date field, RDB itself will consider
the date as being Nov. 17, 1958. That's the zero-date for RDB/VMS.
It's not a FOCUS problem.

  I guess you'll have to check in FOCUS if the date has precisely
this value, instead of checking for blank.
