199.0. "CAN YOU HELP WITH CONFLICTING ADVICE?" by CARTUN::DEVI () Fri Apr 14 1989 19:19

I'm working in a group which just started learning FOCUS by reading the
manuals. We were advised by one party that we have to come up with
unique names for all our fields. I just talked to another FOCUS user
today who told me that it ain't necessarily so.

Anybody who's used FOCUS can tell me if I need to rename a field if I
use it again in another record layout?

    Thanks for your help,

You can use the same name in different FOCUS file master descriptions.
The problem arises when you or if you join the files and try to
refer to different data fields by the same name.

You should be able to get around this problem by using different
alias names. As long as the alias names are different, the full
field names can be the same and joins, etc., should be no problem.
