A customer is trying to integrate a BS2000 with all DOS-based PC's of the organization through a PC-sever. Requirements are remote boot and mail. As I'm thinking of All-in-1 Mail, DECnet is the only network transport possible for pathworks for VMS. Customer requirements are also file transfer and terminal emulation between the BS2000 and the PC's. The question is, is there any solution for de FT and TE between BS2000 and PC's knowing that DECnet is the network protocol loaded into the PC's ? (I know there are some solutions using TCP/IP...) Thanks in advance, Xavier

If you take the Integrata product MEPOSI (9750 terminal emulation for VMS) on the PC Server, then you can login to the PC Server using the vt320 emulation and than start MEPOSI (This can be done by a script). There are some advantages in this solution: i) You can use the OSI protocol to connect to the BS2000, that brings a big advantage in performance on BS2000 (the BS2000 TCP/IP generates a big load on the BS2000). ii) This solution supports the security features of BS2000 (see note 128.1). PC's connected via LAN to BS2000 is critical to the security! iii) When you have multiple sites and only one BS2000 System connected by a public network, you can run MEPOSI in a client server configuration to save communication costs (the communication between the client and server is in block mode!) Think about it ... Regards, Ralf |
