126.0. "TWIN TAPE DECK(S) THROUGH 1 INPUT EQUALIZERS ?" by PEKING::TAYLORG (Bodybuilders do it till it hurts) Thu Sep 28 1989 15:55

I am thinking of buying a twin cassette deck but the only thing
is will I have to buy a new Graphic Equalizer that allows input
    for 2 cassette decks.

    The equipment I have is

    Sansui AUG-11X X balanced amp with 6 inputs for 2 tapes,AUX,CD,Tuner
    & Turntable

    Technics SL-G450L tuner
JVC SEA-11 7 band Graphic Equalizer
JVC XLV 220 Compact Disc player
    JVC KDV-100 Cassette deck
    Amstrad Televideo TVR-2

I have the TV plugged into the left channel of the TAPE 2 play socket.
What I would like to do is use both tape units through the SEA-11,
I would beable to play both tapes through the equalizer but I would
not be able to record onto the second tape unit with the equalizer
    switched on.

Would I have to buy another equalizer that has inputs for 2 tape
decks or is there a way I can configure my system so I would not
    need to buy another equalizer.

Would one of those QED switch boxes allow me to connect 2 tape decks
    to a single input equalizer.

Oh and if you are wondering why I have the TV plugged into the tape
2 play socket the reason is because when I plugged the TV into the
AUX socket I was not getting any sound out of the HiFi when I switched
    it to AUX.

I hope you can understand what I am trying to do.

    Thanks in advance
    Grant

    Grant,

My advice is FORGET the graphic equalizer all together! Your money
would be better spent elsewhere in your system. I feel a bit of
Deja-vous here. What benefits do you feel the graphic equalizer
gives you?? After all I can't remember the last time I adjusted
the bass and treble on my amp. The are several quality amps on the
market that don't have tone control at all, there must be something
    in that.

Either improve your front-end, or if you still feel the need
to tweak bass and treble derives from the inadaquacies of your amp,
then replace that. Remember garbage-in garbage-out!!

For good sounds you don't need a system that looks Houston mission
    control!!

Spend your hard earned money wisely.

    /Dave.

    re-1 Dave

I have already upgraded my amp recently. My original set-up was
    as follows

    JVC AK-100 amp
    Sansui PD-30 turntable
    JVC KDV-100 cassette deck
    JVC SEA-11 Graphic Equalizer
    AR 8Ls book shelf speakers

I then got a CD player and so I upgraded my amp to the Sansui I
have now. I then bought a Ariston Q-Deck and aTechnics tuner a few
    months ago.

The reason why I am asking about connecting a twin tape deck through
the SEA-11 is because it was part of my original set-up that I bought
    back in 1985-86.

As for the equalizer making a difference I think it does. I don't
use the tone controls on the amo at all.

Are you sugesting that I sell my equalizer and buy the twin tape
    deck.

Has anyone got any opinions about the DENON DWR-750 twin cassette
    deck?

Also does anyone have a copy of MAY 1989 What HiFi magazine that
    I can borrow.

I am located in Queens House RDL 1E.

    Thanks in advance
    Grant

126.3Will it fit down the waste disposal unit??RDGE13::BARNETTDWho was that masked man?Mon Oct 02 1989 14:4619
    Grant,

Personally I would get rid of the graphic equalizer! If you are
really intent on having a twin tape deck then I imagine the Denon
will be as good as any. I'm not familiar with the model myself, but I have
a Denon DR171 which is excellent. I don't know what features the
Denon you are interested in has, but perhaps try and avoid the "fast
dubbing" type of machine (ie- you can do tape to tape at double
speed). I've got a Sharp ghetto blaster with this facility and quite
    honesty it's rubbish.

Better still if you want to do tape to tape buy 2 tape decks. I
think you'll get much better results from two good quality single
decks than one all singing all dancing twin deck.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

    re-1

    Dave,

The DENON is a new model that came out a few months ago. What
HiFi tested it in may and said something about it in the june issue
and said it was 1 of only 2 twin tape decks that were any good.
    It has Dolby B,C & HX-PRO.

The reason I am considering a twin deck is because I don't have
enough space or power sockets for 2 tape decks. If I got rid of
my equalizer I would have enough power sockets but I still would'nt
have the space for the 2 tape decks.

126.5I've got one...AYOV18::IMACDONALDStompin to the soundsTue Oct 10 1989 10:589
I have the DENON DRW750,and find it has good sound reproduction
even when I use the high speed dubbing facility, until a few months
back I was using a single Pioneer deck and I find the DENON far
superior all round,Since then I have changed my whole set up to
    a DENON amp,tape deck,PHILIPS cd,MITSUBISHI video and MISSION speakers.
Anyway, besides all that I would recommend the DENON

I've tried a few but have always stuck with TDK SA type tape, they
reproduce the sounds well time after time, and are not too expensive.
