How do the recent Pioneer amplifiers (602, 702) compare to the A400-X ? Do they use same architecture / deliver same or better sound ? About the A400-X I heard many good words in various places, but its lacking remote control and various other gizmo's. Pls. supply hints on a good amp in the 300-500 pounds range (with remote). Thx. zj

In the January '95 issue of Hifi Choice there's a review of 300-400 pound amplifiers (I can photocopy the stuff or lend you the mag if you're interested). The ones with remotes are - Technics SU-A900 mk2 Pioneer A-503R Harman Kardon HK640 (only the Technics was recommended out of these) The others are - Audio Innovations Alto (Best buy it says here) Aura VA-100II Evolution Marantz PM-54SE Pioneer A-400X (Recommended) Rotel RA-970BX (Recommended) I personally went for the Audio Innovations amp before I read the article, and was pleasantly surprised when it got such high praise from the mag. Bass isn't it's strong point, but it resolves different parts of the music amazingly well for the price. Chris. | |||||

The only way is for YOU to listen to them to form an opinion. The trouble with all the magazines is that, they try to describe the intangibles in words eg. like the patents now taken out on scents eg. Channel no5! It's gobbledegook! Certainly in terms of build quality/ergonomics etc the articles can be helpful but.... Audio is all about being SUBJECTIVE....it's what you hear that counts! Don't let the media blind your senses! Couldn't agree more...I just put the articles in there for further reference. C. |
