136.0. "Lead Free Petrol Availability" by HAMPS::MUTCH (Application Centre, Basingstoke UK) Fri Apr 21 1989 11:54

Are you tired of queueing up at your local garage for the one and only
pump dispensing lead free petrol ? Do you sometimes say to hell
with it and put in a bit of unhealthy 4 star instead ! No more.

Tesco now have lead free petrol on all 8 pumps.

    Whooppeee !

136.3Use the new road to Sainbury's?HEWIE::RUSSELLBX Turbo drivers do it with woooosh!Tue May 02 1989 12:418
re .1

to get to Sainsbury's from the Viables/Crescent part of town,
do you use the new road that recently opened from the Brighton Hill
roundabout, or use the old original one, or does it not
matter, as they re-join further up that road?

Thanks, Peter.

Better use the new one as the old one has tons of earth across it now.

This is surely some kind of joke. The amount of lead is limited by law.
Normal 2*, 3* and 4* all contain the maximum permitted amount.

Thye probably took it back, added extra lead to it, and re-sold
    it as 4*.

For those of you who don't want to use green petrol I noticed in
Halfords that you can buy a little bottle of stuff that turns unleaded petrol
back into leaded. The cost works out at 10p/gallon.

Yes, it's called "diesel". (Diesel works in a different way to petrol,
but I guess you knew that anyway?)

Yes I use the New road or go via five ways and Kempshott to Sainsburys.
I heard that the 2* was being phased out and the choice would be
    4* or Un-leaded.

This has already happened. The choice now is 4star or unleaded (or diesel on
one pump). By my calculations there are now more pumps delivering
clean-environmentally-friendly-new-whiter-than-white unleaded petrol than are
delivering dirty-polluting-baby-brain-damaging 4*leaded muck.

Make that "phased". I think the date that they stopped was 18th
April. (I have nothing better to read than the posters whilst waiting
    in the queues :-( )

The only advantage that I've found from using 4* as opposed to 2* is that my
988cc Datsun Cherry (THE Mean Machine!) has had an enourmous increase in
accelerating power ... 0-60 in 17.5 seconds compared with 17.6 seconds
previously (probably up about an extra bhp to about 30-bhp).

Errrr yes, to the 5-star, but I'm not sure I'd admit to being and old
	fogey - just yet!

My black mini cooperess was tuned so that's all it would take, and you
should have seen it perform along the lanes in Devon and Cornwall.

Perhaps this is where the petrol mower bores are going wrong. You know the guy
who borrows your Flymow all summer long because he "can't seem to get the old
'Colt' started again".
